Posted July 2, 200816 yr Continuing a walk across the Bronx -- here heading across 161st toward yankee stadia. Part one was hunts point and southern blvd and part two was longwood historic district and morrisania/Melrose in the heart of the Bronx. The pj’s Gorgeous! New Bronx courthouse Some of the concourse plaza apt towers, convenient surface parking in front, eh? :-P On 161st at the grand concourse is the boxy classical/art moderne Bronx county courthouse (1933) The grand concourse is dominated by art deco/art moderne stylings, I’ll do a thread sometime Facing the courthouse across the street is the die lorelei statue (1893), cleaned up in 1999 Nice views up here by the statue – looking east at another concourse classic Looking west Back down on the street A look back before we enter yankeeville The first peek -- say hello to the new yankee stadium Elevated train and subway train hot out there -- i stopped in for a pepsi  From under the el Walking around, it’s very hard to see (vs citifield).... ....but I managed to sneak a stealth peek between the fencing! Another inside peek & a nice old apt complex across the street Look at this – some sort of yankee-silver metal cladding Macombs dam park redevelopment across the street & next to old yankee stadium The familiar stan’s next to old yankee stadium – closed unless there is a game Getting tix – posin for pics  “mr. Steinbrenner, tear this stadium down!” :whip: I think they are keeping the ”meet me at the bat” Now that is a lot of ironwork :-o Heading out, this view really takes the cake! :-o :-o :-o I wanted to see the new Bronx terminal action so this is walking south along Gerard & river aves The bx terminal development is much further along than i thought i think it will be some kind of parking/retail/housing combo :wtf: Hmmm…… Fixing up the old art moderne Bronx terminal food market itself A look east over at manhattan from 149th st Hostos cc & Lincoln hospital nearby Heading back to the gc/149th st subway stop – the concourse used to be mott ave below 149th st...…but that’s for another thread - whew i am beat! *** there it is, the final season at yankee stadium – out with the old, in with the new ***
July 2, 200816 yr The grand concourse is very nice. I imagine that type of housing on Chester, Carneige, Upper Euclid, Wade Park and Hough back in the day

July 5, 200816 yr That was fun. Good to see the old stadium (while it lasts), though I haven't been there in over 30 years. Thanks for the tour.
