Posted July 10, 200816 yr rich i am noticing that since the new upgrade some photo threads are cut off in the middle. not sure if its happening to others? i thought it might be just random or my computer, but i noticed it at work too. its only on some threads, like for example this one tonight by evergrey: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,16686.0.html i wanted to bring it to your attention. if its just me, do you have any tips? thx.
July 10, 200816 yr What kind of browser are you using? I just viewed it and they all showed up but one. I'll try to look into it.
July 10, 200816 yr Firefox does that to large photo threads. I suggest to all that post photos to at least split up the photos between posts if they exceed 15 images.
July 10, 200816 yr ah ha! i recently switched from using internet explorer to firefox. so thats it. i wonder why firefox has never fixed that? so i guess nothing can be done if i see this happen other than to revisit the thread later via explorer or some other browser? ah well. this totally sucks, but at least now i know. thx for explaining.
July 10, 200816 yr a good solution is the IE Tab browser extension for Firefox, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419
July 14, 200816 yr I've noticed the same problem (larger photo threads get cut off) for my mobile browser, although I'm presuming it's due to limited cache size. Can someone confirm this, and does anyone know a way around that problem? I'm using Windows Mobile as my OS.
July 22, 200816 yr It's absolutely ridiculous that Firefox hasn't fixed this by know. I have checked into the bug reports and it's been on their radarf for years. They keep pushing it off to another version, though. Supposedly, Firefox 3 will fix this problem.
July 22, 200816 yr ah... so it's a Firefox problem... interestingly, my Firefox doesn't have this problem for long photo threads posting at SSP or SSC
July 22, 200816 yr ah... so it's a Firefox problem... interestingly, my Firefox doesn't have this problem for long photo threads posting at SSP or SSC its a combination of Firefox and SMF forums....SSP and SSC are vBulletin
July 22, 200816 yr We should upgrade to vBulletin to solve the problem. How much does that cost...or is it just a cost of time/work?
July 22, 200816 yr My vote would be for the upgrade then...sounds reasonable, but then again I don't have access to UO's balance sheet.
July 22, 200816 yr It can be possible once vBulletin transfer software supports SMF 2.0. As of right now it's not supported.
July 23, 200816 yr I like my SMF :( "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 23, 200816 yr I like my SMF :( Same here, trust me everyone, just go download the ie tab extension. I'm sure we all still have pages we visit that don't work well with Firefox in general. It will be handy for other websites.
July 23, 200816 yr Boo to vBulletin! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 23, 200816 yr pope i downloaded the ie tab extension but it's not working, the thread photos are still cut off. maybe i am misunderstanding what it is and how it works? if i just download it is that supposed to be enough? or do i have to clik on something and use it somehow? help! thx.
July 23, 200816 yr I have the same problem (at work only). Long threads are limited to just the first few photos. I use IE.
July 23, 200816 yr mrnyc, You download it, then it installs the next time you open Firefox. After that you have to add the button to your toolbar by right-clicking on the toolbar and selecting 'Customize'. From there drag and drop the IE looking button onto your Firefox toolbar. When you want to open a link in a IE tab you can click the link and open it in a new Firefox tab...then click the IE button to refresh the tab as a IE one.
July 23, 200816 yr You can also right-click on a link and select 'Open in new IE tab'. Yeah, that's what I do. In the bottom right of your firefox window should be a little firefox icon, you can click it to switch engines.
July 23, 200816 yr ah ha thats it -- right-cliking works like a charm. i just didn't know how to use it. thanks fellas. mission accomplished. ***** i have another one. i like to use different size photos in a thread & when i am making up a photo thread and i set it up and preview it, all the photos line up a certain way. however, when i am finished and put the finished product up on the forum, the photos don't always line up the same way. why would that be? ie., when you "preview" five vertically aligned 320x240 photos line up in a row fine, but when i put up the final product sometimes only four do and one pops down below. same thing with three vertical 640x480's. three line up fine in preview mode, but when i put it up on the forum it changes and two are side-by-side and one pops down. so my question is what am i doing wrong? or whats up with the difference between previewing and the actual final thread? thx.
July 23, 200816 yr thx i'm glad you are around today ur and i have to run out soon. i was not sure if i was explaining it clearly. if you or anyone who can help wants a visual i noticed this on my recent coney island thread. if you look at it i think you can kind of see what i mean, the photos are not lined up as i intended (ie., as they were when i previewed it): http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,16776.0.html
February 16, 200916 yr page/screen layout in photo threads - I noted in other comments that SSP and SSC run vBulletin, vs. SMF on UO, so maybe that defines the difference, but anyway - On SSP, the user's screen name, avatar, etc. appear at the top of a photo thread, and photos in a scrolling thread can use the full width of the page. On UO, the user's screen name, avatar, etc. permanently define space at the left side of the page, limiting the width of the viewing area available for photos. That require considerable scrolling with any image wider than 800 pixels. I have my resolution set to 1024x768 on a 21-inch CRT monitor. If I set the resolution higher to accomodate wider photos without scrolling, text becomes too tiny for me to read easily. Maybe that's not a problem for you whippersnappers, but for me ...
February 17, 200916 yr Rob, I don't think there is anything we can do about the layout. Another option could be me adding a layout that better suites you. I'll look around this weekend and see if I can find one.
February 17, 200916 yr Richard, it's no big deal. My post was intended just as a comment on a difference I'd noticed between the two forum platforms. It's very easy for me to switch screen resolutions to view a thread that has big photos, and then switch back when I'm done; only takes a few seconds. Don't make this any kind of priority. You do an amazing job of managing the technology, and I'm sure you have better things to do with your time than chase this minor issue.
February 18, 200916 yr rob you just nailed it. when you preview a photo thread the left-hand side screen-name, avatar and all do not show up. thus you have more width and so more photos fit along side each other in the preview mode. unfortunately, when you post the thread for good, you loose that width and some photos will bump down. mystery solved! thx again. rich if you have time i would ask if you could fix that? it probably does not impact most people, but it does people like me who like to use a variety of photo sizes in a thread. no big deal tho -- most definately not any kind of priority.
December 3, 200915 yr Any idea why when I'm on my laptop or home computer I am able to view all photo threads, but when on my work computer I can only view photo thrads from only a few users?
December 3, 200915 yr My workplace filters out most photosharing sites like photobucket and flickr, as well as YouTube videos. I'd assume your workplace does the same.
