Wow.  That's a big sign. Cool.

And it looks uber cool.  Sleek.  The only word I can think of when I think about what this project will do to the vibrancy of 4th is "yummy".

I love that sort of thing in Cities, and wish Cincinnati would relax its sign laws. Cluter and Chaos is what makes cities great ;)

Agreed, which is why this is one of my favorite pictures of Cincinnati:

The tiny, Olde Montgomery-esque signs in the Gateway Quarter today are a bit depressing.

Not allowing illuminated signs and chasing lights contributes to retail failing in neighborhood business districts.  People need to know in an instant that there is a business in the building, what they sell, and that they're open.

If someone could fill me in please, why does Cincinnati have such stringent laws on signage and when did this change in the city?

Rumor has it the hotel should be open in less than a week (I've heard this weekend or beginning of next week). No official announcement that I know of, yet. It let's you book for July 31, one week from today.

All construction fencing has been removed. It is unfortunate the sidewalk won't be replaced as apart of this conversion.

I agree. I have a question: Why hasn't the city implemented a city wide sidewalk standard? It would be nice if all the sidewalks were uniform. Does anyone have any background information on this?

I disagree. I like the variations in styles found in the CBD.

The sidewalks on Walnut between 4th and 5th are horrendous looking.

Hopefully that section is to be replaced along with 4th between walnut and vine.

Does anyone have any recent photos? Like from this weekend to now?

It'll be interesting to see how evening rush hour traffic is handled at the Fourth & Walnut intersection with Renaissance valet taking up a lane. Yesterday afternoon there were probably 10 cars unloading. The valet drivers can be seen running down Fourth St. from the Pogue garage. Figure this will switch to Mabley Place garage once it's complete. Still, that's a lot of ground to cover and the hotel isn't completely finished.

Granted, I haven't seen it in person.  But those photos show an exquisitely detailed and integrated adaptive re-use of a historic building.

It looks terrific, but the tall white sign at the corner looks a tad cheap and doesn't befit the character of the bldg.

I can't see the pics, is it just me?

You mean the one outside? Isn't that brushed metal?

I agree, Cincyintheknow ... I only saw the lobby but it reminds me of a W hotel a little.

Absolutely. I did some bids for this sign at work and we didn't get it. Once I saw the sign on the building I realized why.

This sign? I think it looks fantastic. And it is brushed metal with maroon lettering.

For senior prank we can switch it with the McCormick & Schmick's fish.

btw, I love that freakin sign. It's as classy as jmeck's hipster polo's...

Cincinnatus, thanks for re-posting the pics!

Noticed at lunch that the onsite bar/restaurant has been branded D. Burnham's, a tribute to the buildings architect Daniel Burnham.

Just a couple years ago, this building was shut down overnight and the utilities turned off. Now we have a beautiful hotel that took just over a year to construct and needed no city intervention to get done. This is a huge win.

Tom Demeropolis Reporter- Cincinnati Business Courier

Even though downtown Cincinnati’s newest full-service hotel has been open for more than a month, the Renaissance Cincinnati Downtown Hotel had its grand opening on Tuesday.

“Renaissance Hotels is known for embracing the spirit of each destination through design, service and unique amenities, making our new hotel a great destination for travelers visiting Cincinnati,” Keoni Christensen, general manager of Renaissance Cincinnati Downtown, said in a news release. “We want to create an experience that invites our guests to discover the very best of Cincinnati, from its vibrant arts scene to the best in local entertainment and culinary adventures.”

It helped that they paid next to nothing to acquire the building.

I was at the bar back on august 1st.  The lobby and bar/restaurant are beautiful.  What a building!

This began yesterday. Fencing is up from where the building begins on Walnut to the front door / valet stand on 4th.
