Hello. Been lurking for a long time and thought I would finally join. Grew up in Columbus and now live in Indianapolis. Came across some old pics and thought I would share them. These shots of Columbus were taken in the early 90's, around '93 I think judging by the "new" Convention Center and the Pen.

My favorite with the old pen in the background.

A favorite view of the skyline.

Welcome and cool shots!

Welcome!

Welcome and thanks for the riverfront shot with the Ohio Pen in the background.  The Arena District is doing so well that it's easy to forget about the old Pen that it replaced.  Also, the Scioto River looked especially clear in that photo.

Welcome to Urban Ohio!!!  Awesome shots too.

Awesome shots and welcome!

Love the pictures of Columbus from the 90s.  The city looks fresh, clean and green; it is hard to believe that it is 15 years ago. The facade of the old Pen was not bad, and really did anchor the north end of downtown quite well.  Thanks for sharing your photos!

MOAR!

I like the antenna-free Leveque. Judging by the extra vessels by the Santa Maria, it looks like they were giving boat tours of the river, too.

I'd LOVE to see shots of Short North grit from this era and earlier.

Thanks for the welcome. Still digging for more old pictures. Don't want to date myself, but I remember the "seedy" Short North and the old campus area very well. In a way I prefer the feel of back then, the independent galleries and bars, before the restaurants moved in and made it too expensive to lease. Don't get me wrong I very much enjoy it now and visit the area whenever I'm back in Columbus. It was just different then that's all.

Thanks again. Look forward to more reading, learning and posting.

Welcome and more pics please! I'm interested in some Indy threads, especially lesser-known and up-and-coming neighborhoods.

haha i remember all that very well. that was right when i moved away. thx for those shots and welcome. more more!

I too like that last skyline picture a lot.

^The ole' Confluence Park view.

Lurking has its drawbacks; welcome; nice shots.

The skyline is practically unchanged in the last 15 years!  Wow.  Those photos were taken from right around when I moved to Columbus.
