I had thought Matt and Tony’s was just a rebrand of P&G’s….so are these two separate businesses? Lol

Either way, nice to see a good burger joint back on High.

They are separate. I have no idea when they split or what happened. Matt and Tony’s bought the pat and Gracie’s location on Gay st a year ago or so.

the menus are basically identical and the food taste exactly the same, so no idea why they are different companies.

Glad to see the former Dry Mill space has already landed a new tenant:

Taco concept taking over former home of Columbus “sober bar”

“A Columbus taco restaurant is moving from State House to former sober bar.

According to owner Zachary Martin, House Taco–a taco concept that open its first brick and mortar location inside the Ohio State House in late 2021–will relocate to the former home of The Dry Mill.

Serving as the city’s only alcohol-free bar during its tenure, The Dry Mill was located at 79 S. 4th St. before it announced its closure late last year.

House Taco’s last day at the Ohio Statehouse will be Aug. 30, and the concept will move into the 4th Street space on Sept. 4. The new location will roll out in “phases,” with House Taco opening on Sept. 4, serving breakfast and lunch offerings as it does at its current location. The next phase, which will go into effect in October, will see the spot add a dinner menu, although Martin the concept will be tweaked to best utilize its new location.“

First Look: Cow-Themed Coffee Shop Opens at The Junto

It’s a cow-themed coffee shop, but the milk selection is anything but strictly cow-based. A variety of house-made alternative milks are one of the main attractions of Maudine’s, the new coffee shop inside The Junto Hotel at 77 Belle St. Downtown.

The name and theme come courtesy of the bovine Maudine who was crowned Ohio State University’s homecoming queen in 1962. As a coffee shop, Maudine’s serves up a wide variety of coffee and espresso drinks, brewed with beans from Columbus’ very own One Line Coffee. Cow milk and cream are available for coffee accompaniment, as well as a wide variety of alternative milks – available at no extra charge – including almond, coconut, oat, rice, cashew and soy. There will also be some special rotating varieties like pecan or pumpkin seed milk.

House Taco Finds a New Home

House Taco has resided inside the Statehouse for the last year and a half, but soon it will move to a home of its very own.

The journey will be a short one as House Taco heads a block east to 79 S. Fourth St., the short-lived address of sober bar The Dry Mill.

A business born of the pandemic, Owner Zach Martin says the Statehouse provided the space he needed to get out of survival mode supporting his family as a single dad, and take the next steps with House Taco. It helped him gain brand recognition, work on his recipes and systems, but, “The Statehouse was never the full vision of what I wanted once I made the decision to move this forward,” Martin says.

Third Way Cafe Relocating Across the Street

After nearly six years in operation, Westgate coffee shop Third Way Cafe is on the move. But they’re not going far.

In fact, their address of 3058 West Broad Street is changing to 3059 West Broad Street as the business relocates this month directly across the road.

“We’ve been working on this for seven or eight months now,” said Tim Rush, Co-Founder and CEO of Third Way Cafe. “This space became available and the stars aligned.”

The building at 3059 West Broad Street was built in 1987 and was home to a Rally’s drive-through before becoming a check cashing business. That business appears to have closed sometime in 2016 and the building has sat vacant ever since.

First Look: Habibi Grill Makes Long-Awaited Arrival in Italian Village

A project that’s been over three years in the making is finally welcoming diners. Habibi Grill celebrated its grand opening at 1131 N. Fourth St. in Italian Village on August 19.

When it was first announced, the restaurant was to be an expansion of Mr. Hummus Grill. Ownership has remained the same, but the concept has changed slightly along the way.

Owner Tarek Albast says the long-vacant warehouse needed a lot of work. Combined with a pandemic pause and the time it took to get permits – and get the furniture and shawarma machines imported directly from Lebanon – the project took longer than anticipated.

Goood Friends opening Friday at Jackie O's on Fourth downtown

The new food option at Jackie O’s on Fourth will begin serving Friday.

Goood Friends is a collaboration between the food minds behind Wario’s Beef & Pork in the Arena District, Paulie Gee’s in the Short North and the former co-owner and chef of the Angry Bear Kitchen.

The concept is described as a “Midwest sandwich window.” The group took inspiration from fast food eateries of yore to craft a menu meant to pair well with the bevy of beers being served up by Jackie O’s downtown at 171 N. 4th St.

Three More Restaurant/Bars Planned for Vacant Downtown Space

A trio of new dining and entertainment concepts are slated for the former “Galleria” space, attached to the PNC Bank Building, which is currently undergoing a major renovation. According to a Dispatch article published earlier this month, the lineup includes a biergarten, a tapas restaurant and a speakeasy.

The trio of venues will join Butcher & Rose, a new Cameron Mitchell restaurant, which is wrapping construction and slated to open next summer on the Broad Street side of the PNC Bank Building.

Little Gay Bookstore, Queer Beans Opening this Fall

The Little Gay Bookstore came about as many entrepreneurial endeavors do. Owners Reese Steiner and Lauren Branch couldn’t find the kind of bookstore they wanted, so they decided to build it themselves. But the shop at 1129 N. High St. will be more than just that, also incorporating a coffee shop and creating a safe space for people to exist, Steiner says.

...

And the for-profit coffee shop side of the business, Queer Beans, will help support the non-profit bookstore. Steiner says they want to be able to pay their employees a livable wage and the for-profit will help give the non-profit a leg up. And while someone might walk into the store and not buy a book every time, they’re more apt to grab a coffee every time.

Branch says sampling is underway to determine their roaster, and they’re looking for a supplier that also values doing good in their community. The menu will be straightforward at fist with coffee and espresso drinks, but it will expand over time.

First Look: Goood Friends Opens at Jackie O’s

There’s some goood food to be found at Jackie O’s on Fourth as Goood Friends officially opens inside the brewery at 171 N. Fourth St. today, Friday, August 25.

A new concept from the team behind Wario’s, Goood Friends’ menu is centered around messy Midwestern sandwiches. There’s the Juicy Jackie, a mushroom-blended burger, the fried bologna After School Snack, and the Warby’s Melt, which has roast beef and a Wario’s wiz crossover, plus more.

Spuds, corn and cukes all get dressed up for sides, lest we forget the sweets with a Fried Apple Pie and a PB&J Moon Pie for dessert.

First Look: Gluten-Free Biscuit Cafe Opens in King-Lincoln District

While gluten-free options are becoming more prevalent on menus, a gluten-free biscuit is still more of a rarity. A new cafe in the King-Lincoln District looks to fix that.

Biscuits by Daddy-O is now open at 821 E. Long St.

There’s no picking and choosing and Biscuits by Daddy-O, it’s all gluten-free on an affordable menu that spans sweet, savory and lunch options.

“Both being from the south, both being from Georgia, we missed biscuits,” says Owner Aaron Blevins of he and his wife, who are both gluten-free. “And so I was like I’ve got to figure out how to make a good gluten-free biscuit.”

I’m glad places are opening up in this, but damn what an embarrassing development for an inner ring suburb.

Good Night John Boy now open in the Short North

A Cleveland-area restaurant and bar group has reopened its Short North space.

Twinsburg-based Forward Hospitality closed Seesaw at 906 N. High St. over the summer but has converted it into one of their other bar concepts.

The new 1970s-themed Good Night John Boy is now open.

It’s the fourth location for that brand, which also operates in Cleveland and Chicago. The group opened a St. Petersburg, Florida location this year as well.

Si Señor Returns Downtown

In some ways, things are coming full circle for Peruvian sandwich shop Si Señor. The shop announced plans to open in the Arena District, but it’s not their first venture in Downtown Columbus.

The shop opened its first brick and mortar restaurant on Long Street back in 2010 before jumping over to a Lynn Alley spot in 2013. While the business expanded successfully to new locations, the coronavirus pandemic shuttered their Downtown operations in the summer of 2020 once their staple demographic of office workers vacated the area.

Yes! I love Si Senor. Hopefully they stay open during dinner as I believe their past locations downtown closed after lunch. I would love to be able to grab a fish sandwich and pasta salad before a Crew game.

As Dublin cafe nears opening, Fox in the Snow looks at further expansion

Fox in the Snow Dublin will open soon, but that won’t be the end of the local café and bakery chain’s growth.

The 38 W. Bridge St. location is expected to open this month, though the official date hasn’t yet been set.

The Dublin café will be the fourth for Fox in the Snow and the first in the northwest part of Central Ohio.
