El Vaquero ready to open its Short North restaurant

City’s First Dog Park and Bar Opens in Southwest Columbus

Dog parks are traditionally meant for our four-legged friends, but Bumble’s Backyard has a little something for everyone.

Bumble’s Backyard is a year-round dog park, bar, coffee and ice cream shop founded by partners Lauryn and Evan Betterton. Inspired by the Betterton’s 7-year-old Golden Doodle Bumble, the park opened Oct. 26 at 1280 Brown Rd. and is the first of its kind in Columbus.

The actual building for Bumble’s is small and doesn’t house any seating. It’s the space behind it that’s expansive. The fenced-in yard is almost two-thirds of an acre and around 10,000 square feet of it is dog-friendly turf.

I’m worried about this stretch of broad becoming some weird right wing religious block. Not sure why a church needs a downtown retail building, but hopefully they turn it into housing for low income.

Meh, they can do what they want. Is it annoying? Absolutely. But as long as they aren't doing anything illegal or in opposition to the local zoning, they should be able to engage in whatever religious or political activity they see fit.

What's far more annoying is the surface lot that exists literally next door to this building. Or the surface lots along 3rd. The fact that those still exist is infuriating.

Yawning Bear Bread Co. Opens Brick-And-Mortar

Liz Brett went from baking bread out of her kitchen to opening her very own brick-and-mortar.

Located in the King-Lincoln District at 999 Mt. Vernon Ave., Yawning Bear Bread Co. hosted a soft launch Friday and officially opened to the public today. The space was formerly home to Three Bites Bakery, which relocated to East Broad Street in the summer.

Brett got her start in the bread-baking business in 2018 as a hobby. She started bringing her loaves to various markets and would sell out in less than half an hour. Cooking out of her kitchen started to become too much and she knew she needed to find a bigger production space.
