March 30, 200916 yr I've never been to either one. I'm used to the Indian Buffets in Clifton (Cincinnati). There were three of them right next to each other but they all tasted the same to me lol yet everyone I know is like "nooo noo Ambar is better!" "No, Apna is better!". I love Indian buffets but I have to be in the right mood. I could only do it every now and then. Those spices are strong :-o

Other restaurants are located in downtown Cincinnati and northern Kentucky. Montgomery Inn will hold a grand opening/ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, with Dublin City Council members. April 22, 200916 yr Want to Help bonoPIZZA Move Into a New Location? By Walker | April 20, 2009 8:43pm Last weekend bonoPIZZA made their return with an outdoor parking-lot setup in front of the old Cowtown Pizza location. Due to the overwhelming response, Bill & Peggy Yerkes are looking to expedite the process in which they’re going to be moving back into a more permanent indoor venue. Bill notified us earlier today that they’ve found a great spot in the Grandview-Area that features loads of free parking, patio seating, and indoor seating space for 30-40 people. The only catch is that they’ve only got around 80% of the funds ready to get the location secured and opened, and are currently around $5,000 short. Always the non-traditionalist, Bill has put together a proposal for his loyal customers to help raise the extra cash quickly. He calls it the “bonoPIZZA Pay it Forward Plan”. Effective immediately, bonoPIZZA will begin selling half-price gift certificates in $100 and $200 increments. The $100 gift certificate will cost $50, and the $200 gift certificate will cost $100, making it a great deal for anyone planning on dining at bono in the future. The goal is to sell approximately 75 of these certificates to cover the cost of raising the additional $5,000. Once the $5,000 mark is reached, certificates will no longer be sold, so quantities are very limited. Bill stated that the certificates issued will be individually numbered with each contributor’s name labeled as a “bono savior”. If the $5,000 amount is not reached, all checks and payments will be returned in full, and Bill said that a “WTF, We Tried” certificate will still be issued to all who gave it a shot. To place an order you can reach Bill via phone at 614-441-2880, or send a check to: Bill Yerkes 1724 Northwest Blvd Columbus, Ohio 43212 MORE: http://www.columbusunderground.com/want-to-help-bonopizza-move-into-a-new-location

May 4, 200916 yr Taste of Belgium Coming Soon to the North Market By Walker | May 1, 2009 2:30pm Press Release: Belgian waffle and crêpe lovers rejoice! Belgian native Jean-François Flechet will open Taste of Belgium at the south end of the North Market in May. The tale of how Jean-François came to be a waffle-maker is as intriguing as his crispy caramelized waffles are delectable. Jean-François moved to the U.S. more than a decade ago to pursue a doctorate in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. He eventually ended up in Cincinnati working for a market research company. After working for 5 years and receiving his green card he decided to start his own enterprise developing a vending machine that dispensed hot food. He was back at home visiting family in Belgium and attending a trade show when he was enticed by the familiar smell of Liège waffles. He discovered an older gentleman baking up fresh waffles according to a family tradition some 100+ years old. Jean-François was mesmerized by the process, struck up a rapport with the man and was invited to visit the production facility a few days later in Brussels. Convinced by what he learned (and tasted) Jean- François immediately purchased one of the waffle irons to bring back to the U.S. with him and so began his foray into waffledom. May 22, 200916 yr Casto seeks to ban Soupman from store Business First of Columbus - by Dan Eaton Friday, May 22, 2009 No soup for who? The Original Soupman chain, which came to Columbus with acclaimed dishes, a prime time TV pedigree and plans for several shops, may be nearing the end of its brief run in the city. Broad & High Development LLC, an affiliate of developer Casto, is suing Original Soupman franchisee Michael-Phillips Restaurant Group LLC, alleging it hasn’t paid rent on its 1,700-square-foot space at Casto’s Broad & High development. Casto seeks to evict the quick-service soup and sandwich chain. “They don’t want to evict the tenant, but after 11 or 12 months of unpaid rent they have no choice,” said Dan Binau, an attorney with Harris McClellan Binau & Cox PLL who is representing Casto. Requests for comment went unanswered at Casto, the Michael-Phillips Restaurant Group and Soup Kitchen International Inc., which is Original Soupman’s parent company based in Linden, N.J. According to Casto’s complaint, filed May 4 in Franklin County Common Pleas Court, Michael-Phillips Restaurant Group owes $65,058 in rent and associated fees. Its monthly rent is $4,583 plus charges for common area maintenance, insurance and other expenses. Casto also is asking for $682,190 in accelerated rent to cover the franchisee’s 10-year lease at 20 N. High St., which started in April 2008. The $22 million Broad & High project opened last year, with 23 condominiums, 25,000 square feet of office space and 9,000 square feet of ground-floor storefronts. Other tenants include Dunkin’ Donuts, Cafe Lola and broadcasting studios for television station WCMH. The Original Soupman chain, whose founder, Al Yeganeh, was the inspiration for the Soup Nazi character on Seinfeld, has a rotating menu of soups, along with salads and sandwiches. The company estimates startup costs at between $89,500 and $301,500 per restaurant, including a $35,000 franchise fee. Michael-Phillips Restaurant Group had planned at least one other restaurant at the Shoppes on Fifth Avenue near Grandview Heights, but developer Kohr Royer Griffith Inc. scuttled those plans. Vice President Paul Bloomfield said the firm had a lease with the Original Soupman franchisee, but canceled it. He declined to say why. http://columbus.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2009/05/25/story5.html

May 26, 200916 yr First Bite: Cook Shack BarBQ Thursday, May 21, 2009 By G.A. Benton, Columbus Alive Downtowners can get down with a taste of down South during lunchtime now that Cook Shack BarBQ has opened up its Long Street branch. Positioned along an alleyway, this short place is modest but clean inside, where the scene could best be described as on the nondescript side. Unless you count the standout scent of wood smoke - and I most certainly do. With a menu scaled back from Cook's flagship Hilliard shop and limited hours, this new location is clearly geared to accommodate the busy weekday lunch rush. That's no doubt why there's only a few tables and the staff of friendly guys serves up the vittles cafeteria-style. So if the weather's nice, and it was last Friday, I suggest you load up on Cook's goodies and make the short march to the Statehouse lawn, which affords prime picnic-style perching spots. Nancy's closing Monday might be temporary Family still evaluating situation Tuesday, May 26, 2009 - 6:44 PM By Gary Seman Jr., ThisWeek Staff Writer Per the deadline set by its owner, Nancy's Home Cooking will close on Monday. The family, however, is optimistic that it will reopen with upgraded equipment and an updated look. "Our intention is to keep the legacy going, but some issues are out of our hands," said Tracy King McCurry, a niece of restaurant owner Cindy King. The single biggest issue is the HVAC, she said. The family is waiting for estimates for its repair, which could run between $20,000 and $80,000. If the cost for repair is on the high end, the restaurant will close permanently, McCurry said. The 30-seat eatery has been a whirlwind of activity since King announced she was leaving the business and closing the doors of Nancy's, which is four decades old. May 29, 200916 yr New Restaurant Opens in Grandview - Third & Hollywood - Review: Third and Hollywood in Grandview By Andrew Hall | May 29, 2009 The skinny: This is an MBA’s vision of fine dining, not a foodie’s. Food review or summary first? Hmmm. What I said above really sums it up. The restaurant has the feel and execution of a fine dining restaurant created in a boardroom by MBAs who’ve had no real and personal dining experience. The same relation to crunchy-style joints that Northstar has and the same portable concept. Some of the food was very good, but I have absolutely no desire to return. The space is very nice. Great use of natural lighting with the windows and mirrors on opposite walls. Odd choices like a layout of tractor seats seem to bespeak of what I was told the original concept was. That was the result of the drive Christine & I took on Saturday and Gloria’s Soul Food, along East Main Street, was our accident. May 29, 200916 yr Blackwell Restaurant re-launches as "Bistro 2110" - Review: Upscale Campus Bistro Touts Local Ingredients By Alexandra Kelley | May 22, 2009 At The Blackwell Inn’s Bistro 2110 you won’t find burritos as big as your head, but you might find yourself sitting two tables away from The Ohio State University President Gordon Gee. This happened to my handsome dining companion and I recently when we sampled the restaurant’s new spring menu. Specializing in American, European, and Asian fare, Bistro 2110 offers elegant tablecloth service and unbeatable views of Ohio Stadium in an area more known for Golden Tee and Beer Pong. June 4, 200916 yr Handke’s closing later this month Business First of Columbus - by Matt Burns Wednesday, June 3, 2009, 4:30pm EDT The Brewery District’s Handke’s Cuisine will close its doors in less than three weeks after struggling amid a pullback in fine-dining spending, co-owner Tim Phalen said Wednesday. Phalen, who bought the restaurant last year with his wife, Lorie, said the award-winning restaurant at 520 S. Front Street will shut down June 20 after 18 years in business. The restaurant was founded by Chef Hartmut Handke. The closing comes several months after business took a 40 percent drop and didn’t bounce back, Phalen said. An upstairs bar dubbed Encore that the Phalens opened since acquiring the restaurant performed “just fine” but couldn’t prop up its lagging flagship business. “Fine dining really took a tremendous dive at the end of October and we never really recovered from that,” he said. http://columbus.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2009/06/01/daily33.html?surround=lfn
June 5, 200916 yr We held an event at Encore (inside Handke's) tonight. Great crowd that came out for a final hurrah, although everyone was sad to see them close. The space will be missed. :(
