Creole Kitchen’s Dining Room Reopened This Month

The dining room at Creole Kitchen, 1052 Mt. Vernon Ave., is finally open for use after two years of construction, but that’s not all that has changed. The old dining area, limited to three or four tables, has been expanded to a space allowing for dozens more people and opening up more opportunities for the restaurant.

Ilias Zervas is tired of the fake gyros circulating around the city. Beef. Lamb. Those are the protein options you typically order from.

“Which is a big lie,” Zervas said. “These are authentic gyros, not the gyros you’re used to in the U.S.”

New Concept Revealed for old ZenCha Space Downtown

It wasn’t too long ago that the Asian restaurants with which we’re all now intimately familiar were considered strange, exotic concepts. But, over the last 30 years or so, we acclimated to their existence, and they adapted to our safe tastes, cooking up as much sweet and sour chicken and fried rice as we could stomach.

“It really is Americanized Chinese food,” said Tom Chang, local entrepreneur. “I don’t prefer that. My peers — we don’t eat that.”

Local Entrepreneurs Bring Thai Rolled Ice Cream to Columbus

When Zach and Ashlie Sanders came back from their Thailand honeymoon, they couldn’t help but bring back a little piece with them. Rolled ice cream, the treat you never knew you wanted, is their product, and it’s gathering crowds at the couples’ pop ups and festival booths.

For Simply Rolled, the big attraction seems to be the made-to-order process. Forsaking gums and stabilizers, they blend fresh ingredients into a homemade ice cream paste. From there the paste is spackled onto a cold plate with a temperature of negative 17 degrees, rolled, and finished off with toppings.

"Short North White Castle Loiterers" takes on a whole new meaning.

There are some restaurants where I would just never have the desire to drink alcohol, and White Castle (or almost any other fast food) would be one of those places. Some Cincinnati chili places sell beer and I just can't imagine it being good to drink a beer with a 5-way. Somehow the Taco Bell Cantina idea makes sense to me though.

New Restaurant Hitting the Short North This Summer

Replacing the old Callander Dry Cleaners in the Short North is a new concept from the owners of BBR Restaurant Downtown. Mike Mercer, partner, said Junction Cookhouse and Bar will bring an “old wild west” vibe to the neighborhood.

Having a “rustic, industrial, steam punk” feel, Junction will have three garage doors leading outside, two bars and a patio. The 4,200 square foot space will seat 120 people inside and 70 more outside. They’ve hired a chef from out of state but aren’t yet releasing the name. They’re still working on menu development, but Mercer said there’ll be large portions of American Tex-Mex cuisine.
