Outside of the seemingly invincible Granddad's and Panzera's it seems Grandview's food tastes are mirroring the Short North's more than anything.
February 26, 20196 yr The Pit BBQ Grille to Open Second Location this Spring Columbus is doubling up on locations of The Pit BBQ Grille, the second one coming to Parsons Avenue — and with a full bar — this spring. The Pit first opened up at 3545 Cleveland Ave. in 2016, following that up with the debut of their food truck a year later. This second location is at 1542 Parsons Ave., between the fire station and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a spot that co-owner D’Andre Martin says keeps them centralized in the community they serve. “With our first location, we wanted to be part of the community, and we feel Parsons has the same feeling, being part of the community that supports you,” Martin says. “It’s an up and coming area, and to be a part of that movement — we think we’re coming in at the perfect time.” More below: https://www.columbusunderground.com/the-pit-bbq-grille-to-open-second-location-this-spring-ls1 "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

March 6, 20196 yr Nate’s Steamed Bagels Sees Rapid Expansion Throughout Columbus One of Columbus’ newest food trucks will set up shop at several new locations this year. Nate’s Steamed Bagels, founded in 2017 by Nate Schott and launched in food truck format last summer, has partnered with Antiques on High, and will soon be available from the Brewery District to Franklinton, to the South Side. The concept was just a twinkle in Schott’s eye as he was attending Miami University of Oxford and routinely slamming the steamed bagel sandwiches from the Bagel & Deli on the college’s campus. “I decided that I would open Nate’s Bagels some day,” he said from the inside of the Steamed Bagels truck. After moving from Ohio to Chicago, and back to Ohio, he went four years without his fix, one day resolving that, “I had to bring it back. I bought a steamer that night.” More below: https://www.columbusunderground.com/nates-steamed-bagels-sees-rapid-expansion-throughout-columbus-ls1 "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

He’s since secured a location for Ugly Tuna 2, at 195 Chittenden Ave., with a planned opening just in time for Senior Crawl on April 30. “I’ve been spending the last year really walking up and down High Street, from Chumley’s down to Threes, just getting to know a lot of the owners,” says Votino. “I came across this site just about a month ago, and I’m bringing Tuna back for the 15th annual Senior Crawl.” More below: https://www.columbusunderground.com/ugly-tuna-saloona-makes-a-comeback-as-ugly-tuna-2-ls1 "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 19, 20196 yr First Look: Country Music Bar Bristol Republic Short North’s newest bar opens Thursday, April 18. First announced in May, Bristol Republic has taken over the space that Basil held for nine years, transforming it into a country music venue, barbecue restaurant and whiskey bar. The interior is nearly unrecognizable to those who frequented Basil, with a wide open floor plan featuring a large stage for live music, two bars, and abundant seating in between. Guitars, cowboy hats and pictures of famous country music artists dot the walls, and cow patterned stools, chairs and couches add to the honky tonk vibe. April 23, 20196 yr Kilwins Adding Second Central Ohio Location in Short North After a successful central Ohio debut in Dublin, Kilwins is heading for the Short North. Taking over the former Second Sole building at 662 N. High St., the locally-owned Kilwins franchise will bring an assortment of sweet treats to the neighborhood this May. That includes 32 flavors of ice cream, fudges, brittles, caramels, chocolates, gift baskets, and special-order items. Similar to their Dublin location, Kilwins will also have a full espresso bar. Husband and wife team Ernie and Stephanie Malas opened Kilwins in Dublin in 2017, later expanding partly into the adjacent space to accommodate the number of customers they were seeing on a daily basis. They’re expecting their clientele to continue growing as Bridge Park plans for an arena and its own North Market. April 24, 20196 yr New Deli Takes Over Pocket Produce in Clintonville They technically, and quietly, opened back in February, but A Common Table is finally ready to celebrate their grand opening. A deli-slash-cafe, A Common Table has repurposed the space that once housed Pocket Produce in Clintonville. Co-owner Josh Taylor acquired the space at 3496 N. High St. in August of 2018, but he’d had his heart set on a restaurant of his own since he entered the industry 24 years ago. With a background in corporate and local establishments, he brings a perspective to A Common Table focused on opportunistic evolution; there’s no telling how the restaurant will look over the course of its lifetime. A Common Table initially started as a straight up deli concept, with a selection of cold cut and grilled sandwiches and a deli case full with purchasable meats by the pound. It’s since dropped the deli case and will soon add in an espresso bar, allowing Taylor to more quickly grow his margins. April 26, 20196 yr Short North eatery expanding, adding full bar The Northstar Café in the Short North is getting bigger. The first restaurant for Kevin Malhame, his wife Katy Malhame and brother Darren Malhame, marks 15 years of business this year at 951 N. High St. and it’s due for an update. The company has held a lease on the neighboring space at 945 N. High St. for a while now and is ready to put it to use. The Short North Northstar will be remodeled and expanded this summer. The dining room will get an additional 1,000 square feet or so as it expands into the former Zpizza space. That doesn’t just mean more seating, but also the introduction of a full bar that will have around a dozen Ohio beers on tap alongside expanded wine and cocktail offerings. April 27, 20196 yr First Look: Winans at Grandview Yard Grandview Yard residents, shoppers and diners will soon have a new spot to get their fill of wine, chocolates and coffee. Winans, the Dayton-based franchise with locations in German Village, Dublin and Downtown, opens at 1125 Yard St. on Saturday, April 27. This new location comes from two new franchisers, Adriane Hopper and Matt Finkes. They’ll be one of two locations (Downtown also) offering wine. “I’m from Piqua, where Winans originated, so I’ve known about Winans for a long, long time,” says Finkes, “and I’ve kind of always had an entrepreneurial spirit. And Adriane has 20 years of experience in the restaurant, so both of our abilities made this a good match. April 29, 20196 yr Cleveland Restaurant Groups Bringing New Concept to Short North The brains behind Cleveland restaurants Greenhouse Tavern, Noodlecat, Flipside, 3 Palms Pizzeria & Italian Bakery and a number of other Cleveland restaurants are breaking into the Columbus market. Team Sawyer and FWD Hospitality have each had their eyes on central Ohio for several years, and they’ll take the dive together at the old RAM Brewery space at 906 N. High St. in the Short North. While the name and branding have yet to be decided for the new restaurant, they’ve pulled together a rough draft of the menu. Unlike most menus that lay out appetizers, salads, mains and desserts, this one will focus largely on shareables. “It’s a lot of dishes that you can bring to the table and share and try a lot of different things,” says Bobby Rutter, Chief Operating Officer for FWD Hospitality. “It’s a special dining experience, because that’s kind of the way we like to enjoy a lot of our meals. So we wanted to develop something around that atmosphere, and that’s what we centered the menu around — that sharing experience.” More below: https://www.columbusunderground.com/cleveland-restaurant-groups-bringing-new-concept-to-short-north-ls1 "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

Chef driven restaurants here in LA and around Ohio and the rest of the country have been doing it this way for years.
