My partner is a cable addict so we get a lot of cable TV.  I dont watch it much, but did see this channel that was different.

Current

Sort of a collection of documentarys, but it seems pitched to a younger demographic than I am, and has sort of a hipster flavor, or is trying for it. In some ways it has an old MTV character, but with different content.

What I like about it is the "cool/minimal" graphic or visual identity they are working with, maybe more than the content, which falls flat on occasion...either they try too hard, or there's sort of a "corporate propaganda" subtext that detracts from the hipster vibe they are trying for.

(also get a kick that they use John Lautners Chemosphere as a set for their "VJs")

Has anyone seen this yet, or know what I'm talking about.

Yea, it's been around for a few years.  Some of the pods are really good and blow all other forms of media out of the water!

This is Al Gore's baby.  I like that it's User content driven.  Several employees are former TW emplooyee's.

I remembered reading about its launch (the Al Gore thing) but didn't really notice it on the screen until last year.  I don't watch it so much, but I agree it's content and production style are a huge cut above the cable norm. Definitely some cool stuff on it.

I didnt know about the Gore connection, but snooped around their site and sure enough Gore is the Chairman.  And one of their executives is lawyer Joel Hyatt, who I recall ran for Senate here a few years ago (or at least I think it was him). Didn't expect to see that name.

And you have his word on that.  [if you remember his ads].

Hyatt was Metzenbaum's son in law and swam in big dem circles, so that's night entirely surprising.  But news to me too.

I love Current, especially their vanguard pods. Current does a better job at presenting global issues/views than anything else on cable. I highly recommend checking it out on tv or the internet.
