Hello all,

This forum is great, I have been checking out places to relocate and this site has been very helpful thanks to all the great input!  I am a 23/m cleveland native recent ohio university graduate and looking to relocate closer to downtown.  Ohio city seems like a cool place for young professionals (around the west 25th area).

Could anyone give their take on the following subjects?  Thanks!

-Safety (around west 25th area)

-Fastest route to get to public square

-Streets, houses and apts. to check out

-Is it one of the best places for young professionals? If not, some other ideas?  I have been looking at Lakewood, Cleveland Hts. and Downtown as well.

Thanks again!

Welcome ohiobobcat!

There are lots of residents in Ohio City willing to help. Good Luck.

My only advice is to visit the neighborhood at multiple times during the day over a range of days.

Talk to neighbors, residents, business owners and most importantly ask UrbanOhio forumers!

Welcome as well!

All four of those places are good neighborhoods/cities for young professionals - MTS gives some good advice that it'd be helpful to visit them at different times to get a vibe for which is a good fit for you.

The area around W. 25th in Ohio City has a good variety of bars, some restaurants, and the market, but can certainly be slower on the non-market days.  Hopefully someone who lives there can provide more.

I'm Downtown, and love it - I think it's awesome for young professionals, but look for whats best for you.

Do you work right downtown? the St.Clair/Superior area over at the Tower Press building is cool, Tremont is nice. My brother lives in the Federal Knitting Mills over on Detroit and w.28th, those are real nice.

Are you looking to buy or rent?

Thanks for the responses so far.....I will be looking to rent right now.  My office is downtown in public square, but I will mostly be driving to client sites...

Hello!  I'm 24 and just moved to Ohio City last summer.  I love it.

I'm car free and do fine +/-.  You can easily walk to Dave's or the WSM plus nearly 2 dozen food/drink establishments, a handful of banks, dry cleaner, movie store, and a few other random places.

Ohio City has dirt cheap rentals or very nice rentals--it's your call.  Safety hasn't been an issue w/ me yet although I probably just jinxed myself.

You're 5 min to downtown over the Detroit Superior or Lorain Carnegie Bridge.  It also makes for fun runs if you're into that.

Saturday is a very busy day in the neighborhood but most of the restaurants/bars do quite well on the weeknights.  Did I mention your'e within stumbling distance to many bars?

The neighborhood is very diverse.  You have the locals who have been around for a long time mixing with CMHA crowd mixing with the empty nesters who moved back mixing with people like us who love the real city!  Lots of dogs too.

I rank OC higher than Tremont only b/c it's more convienent going downtown-if you don't have a car or don't want to drive AND most importantly, you can walk to a grocery store!!!  That's a key element in a sustainable neighborhood.

Now you have a car so if you need to go to Steelyard or out into the burbs, you're set b/c you're 2 min. from every freeway in the city.

Good luck!

I didn't think safety was that big of an issue the first 4 months I lived in OC, but after this past weekend I'm rethinking my stance.  Saturday there was a drive-by shooting...nothing like hearing 7 shots from your living room window.  Then that same night somebody put a brick-sized piece of concrete right through the passenger side window of my car.  I'm a little uneasy now and very pissed.

that is a bad weekend. I did not hear about anyone getting shot this weekend unless it was the double shooting (I think both died) north of detroit-but maybe that was the weekend before. Sometimes it never gets publically reported (beyond law enforcement). Maybe you can go to a block club meeting to get some safety info, meet some neighbors, and local officers.

The media only reports shootings on the eastside, remember???? ;).  Sorry about your crappy weekend, egg.
