Posted July 17, 200816 yr I'm in Miamisburg pretty regularily on the GMRRT, so I figured I'd finally post some photos of the infamous Miamisburg Mound, one of the two largest conical mounds in North America. As a kid, this was always a fun destination--not because of the history, but because of the 116 steps to race up and down. http://www.ohiohistorycentral.org/entry.php?rec=2220 I should have waited for a clearer day... July 17, 200816 yr I've never been to the mound in my life but it looks...moundy! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 17, 200816 yr cool i love the mounds. i've only see that one from afar -- it would be a good climb for those views. sooo....could we get over it from the tee with the driver or do you suggest we lay up and get out the pitching wedge?
July 17, 200816 yr Uh, I'm wetting my pants over seeing the abandonments. While there are a few abandonments, most of the complex has either been demolished or renovated as part of the new Mound Advanced Technolgy Center. http://www.mound.com/html/index_frames.htm
July 17, 200816 yr Nice pics. I remember a few years back there was a big debate in Miamisburg about whether to cut the grass and weeds on the mound by mechanical means or unleash a heard of goats to do the job!
July 17, 200816 yr I've never been to the mound in my life but it looks...moundy! Check out that famous serpent mound if you get a chance. I'm not sure of its exact location (I saw it a long time ago), but I'm pretty sure it was in Appalachian Ohio. It was damn cool, and I think it's pretty well-known for a snake mound. Yeah, I've been to Serpent Mound a couple of times actually. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 21, 200816 yr Ugh, that dropoff on the bike trail is nasty! How is the rest of the trail? And how's the "hassle while riding and minding your own business" factor? I stopped riding the GMRRT in the early 90s after having "tough" white trash briar kids in Miamisburg mouth off at me like I was supposed to stop and fight them for sport. The Dayton area is the only city I've lived where natives regularly like to pick fights with random strangers.
July 22, 200816 yr Ugh, that dropoff on the bike trail is nasty! How is the rest of the trail? The pictured section of the trail was recently bypassed with a new parallel trail futher from the river; it is actually now closed. The rest of the trail is in good shape, except for a small section just south of Crains Run Park (where I flipped my bike and tore up my elbows and shoulder a couple weeks back).
