Posted July 18, 200816 yr Here is the lesser of two Miami photo threads (haven't finished editing the other batch yet, and it's much larger). Take in the very unpedestrian friendly, kind of creepy, and filled with glass/concrete high rises Downtown Miami. 1. On the way into Downtown, thanks for the ride/tour FloridaGuy 2. 3. These are freakin' enormous...I've never seen one up close before. 4. It was a very overcast and rainy day, it's a wonder I got half of these pictures to turn out the way they did. Thank god for Photoshop. 5. By far, my favorite shot of the batch. 6. American Airlines Arena 7. More skyline action... 8. Some awesome place right on the water - not really Downtown, but certainly not Miami Beach. 9. 10. I took several pictures of this building...I guess I was fascinated with its curves. 11. 12. They have some old stuff. 13. This is the building where all the Cuban immigrants use to come in at...described as the Ellis Island of Miami. 14. AA Arena again... 15. If you know my photos you know this has become a standard style of shot for me. Always enjoyable. 16. Some government building...forget which one. Whatever. 17. 18. This is actually 7 photos stitched together...so it is actually pretty huge (I think 36" wide), but I can't figure out how to upload that large of a file to Photobucket, is it hopeless?
July 19, 200816 yr Great photos! Miami has some really interesting buildings and great angles. You really get a sense of how huge the ship is in your shot.
July 19, 200816 yr Wow... we must have been in Miami around the same time because I just got off that ship last Saturday... I will post pics of the inside of that ship in a few days
July 19, 200816 yr Nice job Rando! You're welcome, it was nice meeting you. 8. That island is part of Miami Beach. Along the Venetian Causeway, the first two islands off of the mainland going across Biscayne Bay are part Miami. The last four islands are part Miami Beach. 12. Awesome shot of the Freedom Tower. 18. In Photobucket, "under choose files", change the “reduce to” to “1 megabyte file size” from the dropdown. I didn't post my panos because I wasn't happy with the way the came out but here are the links; click on the image to enlarge to full size: http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p142/michaelvandyke1/Miami_Beach08/Miami2.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p142/michaelvandyke1/Miami_Beach08/Miami.jpg
July 19, 200816 yr I like Miami! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 21, 200816 yr very nice. they have a lot of new skyline going up. I didn't post my panos because I wasn't happy with the way the came out but here are the links; click on the image to enlarge to full size: http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p142/michaelvandyke1/Miami_Beach08/Miami2.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p142/michaelvandyke1/Miami_Beach08/Miami.jpg oh no -- that 1st pano is absolutely stunning! btw what panorama software did you use? i've used autostitch before, not sure how it compares to others.
July 21, 200816 yr Rendering! Funny, I thought the same thing! Yes, I am that good. Thank you. :wink2:
July 21, 200816 yr Miami's skyline is one of the best in the US. But, the street level experience downtown is really bad. It a shame, great weather, great location and plenty of downtown condo residents.
July 21, 200816 yr Miami's skyline is one of the best in the US. But, the street level experience downtown is really bad. It a shame, great weather, great location and plenty of downtown condo residents. Where are they? I still think it's way overbuilt, granted FloridaGuy has a better and more informed opinion as he lives in the market.
July 21, 200816 yr These two towers were just recently completed, and are largely vacant (as pointed out by FloridaGuy on our outing):
July 21, 200816 yr Bingo! I've been reading articles about these new developments that are coming online and the financing giving to prospective home owners has been changed and many can, now, not afford them or arent able to meet the revised lown agreements. I've read that many of those units are now being turned into apartments, but the rental cost to break even is out of the range of many people. Also S. Florida's economy is in the tanks. Its a leisure destination (like Vegas and Orland) so when the economy is bad, people aren't visiting those destinations.
July 21, 200816 yr It all depends, if you are including the established Brickell area as downtown then yes there are a lot of residents.
July 21, 200816 yr Is Brickell considered downtown? I was told that the stuff south of the river, starting where the old Sheraton was, and going south, including Brickell Key is considered a different area/neighborhood but not Downtown. ie. similar to how the west bank of the flats is not considered "Downtown" Cleveland.
July 21, 200816 yr Most of Brickell is considered downtown. The south end of Brickell is in the Coral Way neighborhood just before the Rickenbacker Causeway.
July 21, 200816 yr Most of Brickell is considered downtown. The south end of Brickell is in the Coral Way neighborhood just before the Rickenbacker Causeway. OK, so once I cross 15 Street (headed south) I'm no longer in Downtown?
July 25, 200816 yr The government building in No. 16 is the Dade County Courthouse, a great building. I'm told it was designed by the same architect who did Los Angeles City Hall at about the same time (1928), but Wikipedia does not confirm this. Nonetheless, the buildings have great similarities. And since this is Urban Ohio, we would be remiss if we failed to note Ohio's key role in the development of Miami (Brickell and Flagler were both Buckeyes).
July 25, 200816 yr This reminds me of the Aqua Tower going up in Chicago, except this building appears to have much nicer, less distractive railings
