Posted July 23, 200816 yr Both sets of my grandparents are in town so I've been playing tour guide. You'll see pictures of Battery Park and the South Street Seaport. I forgot to take my camera out while on the island and in City Hall Park, China Town and Soho - Hey be easy..Baby Steps for me. :wink2: We start out down at the Battery, we wait in line for the boat. The line stretched all the wasy to state/Battery/B'way. (That is the equivalent of being at the RRHoF's entry and the line ending at E9 & Lakeside) This at 10 AM and in 95 degree heat and humity. I totally got sunburned. Some pics of the building surrounding the park. You can see the middle part of the line in the first pic. July 23, 200816 yr That waterfall is definitely less impressive than I thought it would be, in my opinion. :(
July 23, 200816 yr What's up with the waterfall on the Brooklyn Bridge? It's "public art". Money spent on stuff that could go to people who NEED it. www.nycwaterfalls.org
July 23, 200816 yr Nice set MTS. As for the waterfall... tacky... tacky. You kids should have heard what my grand father said. Especially when a speed boater had to be rescued for getting to close to one of the installations.
July 23, 200816 yr hey nice pics mts. is this when you were out and about with your grandparents? for a minute i was going to go shoot all the waterfalls, but like everybody else i was so underwhelmed so..... btw i read bloomberg personally paid for most of the waterfalls installations. billionaires can be dullards too.
July 23, 200816 yr Yeah, I would never go to Ellis Island or the Statue of Liberty if it weren't for them. My grandmothers have a thing for eating a Celebrity TV chef resturants or restaurants they've seen on TV. So initially were just going downtown to have lunch at Battery Gardens. But my mothers mom wanted to go Ellis Island and my Fathers Dad wanted to go to the Statue of Liberty. So as punishment, I walked them from Battery Park, to the south street seaport, then west towards City Hall, then north to ChinaTown and we continued north into SoHo where we at lunch.
July 23, 200816 yr Based on all the hype, I was so psyched up about seeing the waterfalls (It’s not like they’re exactly a long trek for me!). Judging by your pictures, they (the falls, not your pics) really suck! The reviews and articles warned people not to expect another Niagara, but somehow I expected something a little more substantial. I guess they worked better as a concept. I keep thinking of the Over-the-Falls ride from long-gone Euclid Beach Park in Cleveland. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
July 23, 200816 yr It looks like a water main broke on the bridge and they have scaffolding up to fix it.
July 23, 200816 yr Thanks for posting those. I have some fond memories associated with some of those places and views.
July 23, 200816 yr Nice stuff...I remember several of these scenes from my trip to NYC years ago. Can't wait to go back.
