August 25, 200816 yr you're losing focus gotribe, the real question is what kinda of pizza jebus would eat.
August 25, 200816 yr you're losing focus gotribe, the real question is what kinda of pizza jebus would eat. I guess we could find C-Dawg and Jesus dining over some Marco's together....Just don't bring your OU photo album with you C-Dawg. Jesus won't dig it.
August 25, 200816 yr Other = Dewey's Never heard of it. Small chain, primarily in Cincy. There's one on Lee Road, I highly recommend giving it a try.

August 26, 200816 yr Dewey's isn't bad, but it's overrated.. they had one by campus at UD and I heard way too many people who thought it was the best around.. which isn't even true in lil' ol' Dayton, Ohio.
August 26, 200816 yr Other = Dewey's Never heard of it. Small chain, primarily in Cincy. There's one on Lee Road, I highly recommend giving it a try. Also, one just opened last week in Lakewood on Detroit.
August 26, 200816 yr I'm sorry, but this thread is a waste of time a space. Chain pizza? the sausage topping is iron links. Asking about favorite chain pizza is like asking for your favorite kick in the @ss.
August 27, 200816 yr Minus Donatos, I feel you - independent places are much better. When I lived in Franklinton (Columbus) we used to get Josie's pizza all the time. Its probably the best pizza I've ever had. In my opinion, the best places are usually non-chains, in the hood where rental space is cheap. The pizza is usually greasier than chain pizza and they hook you up with a lot of cheese, sauce and pepperonis. I've been getting Don Ginos a lot this summer while in Columbus; it's in New Rome, maybe a mile from where I'm staying. The owner lets his regular customers use the coupon price if they don't have one; it saves about 4 bucks. Dominos is probably the most corporate of all chains and you see how they really cut you short on ingredients other than dough. Also, a little cultural thing I noticed: In Columbus they tend to cut pizza into squares. In Cincinnati it's usually triangle slices. I much prefer squares; especially that coveted middle peice! You all know what I'm talking about!
August 27, 200816 yr To my taste, Donatos and Pizza Hut are fighting it out for the worst. People in Columbus like to call the thin, crispy pizzas cut in squares "Columbus style." (Columbusites are squares?) Some praise the square slices, some revile them. I'm indifferent. (Among non-chains in my Clintonville neighborhood, I prefer Gatto's, which delivers, and Dante's, which doesn't. Both are thin, in squares.)
August 27, 200816 yr People in Columbus like to call the thin, crispy pizzas cut in squares "Columbus style." (Columbusites are squares?) UrbanSurfin is cruisin' for a bruisin'. Clintonville just got a Hungry Howie's!
August 27, 200816 yr I much prefer squares; especially that coveted middle peice! You all know what I'm talking about! That's crazy talk! The crust is the best part. Cheers, Cheers for the triangular slice! Jeers Jeers to the square slice! :-P
August 27, 200816 yr Ugh. You triangular people kill me with your "crust is the best part". You might as well just go out and buy some dinner rolls and dip 'em in ranch or garlic sauce.
August 27, 200816 yr The crust makes it the pizza. Without the crust, you just have cheesebreadsauce. And I've never understood garlic sauce. I'm convinced the pizza chains invented it and 'convinced' us all through advertising that we like it.
August 30, 200816 yr What are you supposed to tip a pizza delivery guy? I just gave the Donatos delivery guy 3 bucks for two pizzas. There was a 3 dollar delivery charge. I know they have to pay for gas but I can't see the standard being 15-20% for pizza delivery like it is with other tip based jobs.

I know they have to pay for gas but I can't see the standard being 15-20% for pizza delivery like it is with other tip based jobs. I delivered pizza a few years back, when gas was $1.00-$1.25/gallon. The standard then was $1-$3 tip on top of the delivery charge, of which we usually saw $.50 to $1.00. I'd guess the per-delivery $ that the driver gets from management has gone up, but not enough to cover gas at it's current price. Which is a long way of saying that I don't know anymore, but maybe $2-$4? Another approach would be to look at how far they are coming to get to you, and base the tip off of that. One dollar per mile is pretty fair, considering the current costs of vehicle operation, though I'd say minimum $2. Maybe an extra buck or two if you have a large load of stuff. This approach breaks down some if you are ordering from a place 10 miles away, though.
September 1, 200816 yr Pizza Hut only because they are the only ones who will deliver to Battery Park that I have found. Local shops are too worried about the 'hood I suppose. If it's not snowing and blowing then the walk to Red Stone is worth the taste of the pizza.
December 23, 200816 yr This is cool as hell! Meagan just put my pizza in the oven. Unfortunately there's a disclaimer at the bottom of the page basically saying ''don't take 'you got 30 minutes' seriously, we have to take our time with delivery for safety reasons''. What a bunch of bull! Notice they say "You've got 30 minutes" not "WE've got 30 minutes". They know how to cover their arse.

Would you rather have these guys getting in loads of accidents because of the 30 minute stipulation, as happened back when they actually did guarantee that time frame? It's just a silly promotion to start with.

If it's not snowing and blowing then the walk to Red Stone is worth the taste of the pizza. have you tried Nuzio's? I finally tried them for the first time yesterday and it was good-much better than pizza hut IMO. They delivered to an area that is seedier than BP.
December 23, 200816 yr X it doesn't really bother me. I was being overly dramatic as usual. Corey actually came over about 5 minutes after it was out of the oven. He went directly here. No complaints. I agree, they never should have done it in the first place. One time a guy slipped on the ice in front of our house delivering a pizza. I felt really bad about that. He didn't sue or anything!
December 23, 200816 yr .. the best Pizza you can buy is in Carrrabba`s Italien Grill .. all the other Pizza`s are shit ..

Would you rather have these guys getting in loads of accidents because of the 30 minute stipulation, as happened back when they actually did guarantee that time frame? It's just a silly promotion to start with. That's right, they got sued didn't they? I think it was originally less time than that though. Anyway, an Ohio based chain Michiganders love is Marco's.
December 29, 200816 yr This is cool as hell! Meagan just put my pizza in the oven. Would you rather have these guys getting in loads of accidents because of the 30 minute stipulation, as happened back when they actually did guarantee that time frame? It's just a silly promotion to start with. Actually, Dominoes used to guarantee 30 minute delivery in the 80s or it was free. Some of their drivers were involved in some God awful wrecks that were storied on 20/20. And this is why they have the clause in their guarantee today....
December 29, 200816 yr Anyway, an Ohio based chain Michiganders love is Marco's. I'm friends with the daughter of the owner (went to college with her), definitely got my fill of the stuff in college (who doesn't love free pizza?)
December 29, 200816 yr Anyway, an Ohio based chain Michiganders love is Marco's. Honestly, nothing screams Toledo like Marco's, but I find it average. I did a childish rant on it earlier in this thread. I think it's better than any other Ohio pizza chain, but I prefer the Greek places in Toledo (and Sylvania) before Marco's. J&G (downtown Sylvania), Sports Venue (horrible name and location in a strip mall), and Inky's (Detroit Ave.) all beat Marco's IMO. Actually, with Sports Venue, it's more like "buries Marco's 20 feet underground." There's better pizza to be had in The Glass. Marco's is good by Midwestern standards, but it's still Midwestern (I'm a neoclassical food snob). I do love a Marco's pie every now and then just to remind me of home, but I can't live off it. I kind of have the same thing with pizza in other Ohio cities too. An Ohio pie is nice every now and then to remind me of a better time when I was in school, my parents weren't divorced, I still regularly talked to my brother and sister, and I didn't have debt collectors coming after me for medical bills. Ohio pizza is too damn expensive these days. Budget cuts have made me move to a nearly all-cereal diet. I occasionally treat myself with a grapefruit too. It's much healthier this way! Pizza is the devil's food- expensive, unhealthy, and addictive like coke. We should all be having oatmeal for dinner. It costs next to nothing, and it's good for your heart. Overall though, I still say go New York, or go home. New York > all of the United States. I'm kind of amazed we still have pizza wars. It just goes to show you how varied tastes are in this country. :| It's like this with fast food too. I know people who swear by Wendy's and won't set foot in a McDonald's, and vice versa. I guess another thread... Yeah, why does pizza cost so much? Especially Donatos...16 buck for a large pizza...crazy. Add the delivery fee and tip - 20 bucks.
December 30, 200816 yr ^ This is why Little Caesars is planning a huge comeback. Decent pizza for a very low price.
December 30, 200816 yr As a pure coincidence, I tried Marco's a few days ago. It was pretty boring and I doubt I'd get it again. I mean, it was ok, but just kind of eh. I wish Luigi's was closer than Akron.
December 30, 200816 yr ^ This is why Little Caesars is planning a huge comeback. Decent pizza for a very low price. They're not bad. They're slightly below Domino's in the pecking order, imo. It's definitely worth 5 bucks.
December 30, 200816 yr Marco's is probably Ohio's worst pizza chain (sorry, it is and I generally hate Cassano's). Go Donatos! w00t! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
December 30, 200816 yr The only chain pizza worse than Donatos in Pizza Hut. What?! Donatos is off tha hook! Hmmmm
December 31, 200816 yr The only chain pizza worse than Donatos in Pizza Hut. What?! Donatos is off tha hook! Hmmmm I know! It's too bad LaRosas pretty much did a hostile takeover of the pizza market in Cincinnati neighborhoods. I love LaRosas but they've definitely prevented Donatos from penetrating the Cincinnati market. Btw, LaRosa's blows all of these companies out of the water, minus Donatos  Unfortunately they're expensive as hell. They have really good Italian dishes though, that most pizza places don't have. Love their fettucini alfredo and Lasagna, wings, etc.
December 31, 200816 yr Btw, LaRosa's blows all of these companies out of the water, minus Donatos  LaRosa's is not as good as it used to be. They seem to be skimping on sauce and toppings. The last few pizzas I ate from LaRosa's tasted bland.
December 31, 200816 yr No! That's the last thing they need to skimp on. I love their sauce. What's what differentiated LaRosas from most places. Dominos is all dough and no toppings or sauce. LaRosas used to have a great dough to cheese/sauce/toppings ratio. When I lived on the west side, we used to go to the one on Boudinot - in my opinion the best one by far.

It's too bad LaRosas pretty much did a hostile takeover of the pizza market in Cincinnati neighborhoods. Donatos is Cbus' baby, born and bred, but Cincinnati has the same amount of Donatos locations as Cbus does.
December 31, 200816 yr They're mostly in the suburbs though. And if you can't get a Donatos delivered to you in Columbus, your local Kroger carries them for 8 bucks each in the deli! They taste exactly the same.
December 31, 200816 yr You know what I hate? Sbarro. I have to think everyone can agree on that one. It's really awful.
