Posted July 30, 200816 yr Creekside is an example of building up in a small, suburban downtown surrounded by sprawl. Olde Gahanna used to just consist of a couple of blocks of small town retail and homes and now this has completely changed and added to the existing downtown. Keep in mind this is without a light rail station. It'd be interesting to see how much more might come if we get one. I was confused. http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634034.jpg[/img] http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634040.jpg[/img] I was tempted by the paddleboats, but I refrained. http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634047.jpg[/img] http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634050.jpg[/img] http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634085.jpg[/img] http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634116.jpg[/img] http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634120.jpg[/img] http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634125.jpg[/img] http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634133.jpg[/img] http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634136.jpg[/img] http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634142.jpg[/img] http://static1.bareka.com/photos/original/12634148.jpg[/img] Overall, a great development. July 30, 200816 yr They just face one another. The last pic shows what's across the street and in the 8th one down you can see the other side.
July 30, 200816 yr EIFS! I tried flickr's default pic size, but the difference in quality isn't noticeable except in night shots. I thought they were pushing it though. Hope you enjoy regardless!

July 30, 200816 yr It's like a mini "lifestyle center" that's actually part of the town, rather than separate from it. And it's linked to a wonderful park along the creek. And it adds density to a sleepy suburban downtown.
July 31, 200816 yr Great development. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 31, 200816 yr Fun bridge! I take it that's a real, flowing creek and not a fabricated, pumped water feature?
July 31, 200816 yr Yes, a real creek. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
July 31, 200816 yr I don't know that people are appreciating how HUGE of an improvement this is over what was there before. The prior structures were on the verge of being condemned. I was very curious to see how this turned out, and overall it looks pretty nice! Thanks for posting! Did you head over to the Gahanna grill after shooting these photos and get a beanie burger?
July 31, 200816 yr Outstanding pics Columbusite! That Creekside development really turned out well. A very nice addition to the traditional Gahanna downtown. Every poster is, of course, entitled to his (or her) opinion. But I am always amazed at the sniping negativity of some of the comments. Creekside may fall short of someone's idea of an "ideal urban development", but that doesn't mean it is suburban sprawl trash. In fact, it is the opposite of suburban sprawl trash because it is trying to create a denser mixed use environment. Which is what all of us on UrbanOhio are trying to promote, whether it is in a traditionally urban area or not. I, for one, think that the City of Gahanna's efforts and the developer's efforts to create a quality urban environment deserve appaulse.

Nah, I should at some point. This was on the way to Granville. Whit´s Custard. Yum.

September 2, 200816 yr Hello! I stumbled upon this forum while checking my site stats. Nice to know you are here. I live in Gahanna and own a business in downtown Gahanna. I see my business is pictured in one of the above shots. BTW, thanks Columbusite. Your pictures are great. I didn't realize the stones at the back of the lagoon had a face on them. I've stood by those walls many times and hadn't noticed. The Creekside project has created mixed feelings. I think for the most part we are happy with it. I am happy it's here. For me, Mill Street (62) was just a street you buzzed through to get from the west side to the east side of Gahanna. Because of Creekside, the dynamics of the whole street is changing. Some of the businesses that were there at the beginning of the project are now gone. I'm happy to see that the city is open to an eclectic blend of unique retail shops and restaurants. The Olde Gahanna Community Partnership pulled together a pretty decent farmers' market this year. The logistics of having it at Creekside was challenging. The parking issues, the now heavy traffic flow on Mill Street, lack of vendor interest and the short time in which it was planned. Through determination and great team work the market has been deemed a success. This video was from our first market day. I look forward to being here at UrbanOhio.

September 3, 200816 yr I look forward to being here at UrbanOhio. Please stick around. A lot of people on here are very judgemental of neighborhoods, especially suburban ones but no doubt this development was a step in the right direction for Gahanna. The video shows how developments like this bring people together as a community which is not something you see everywhere.
