Posted August 6, 200816 yr we got caught in a howling rainstorm right out of cak airport so we rode it out downtown in akron. two thumbs up for ohio brewing company. ridiculously huge place, but they had a nice steel valley stout. the peanut shoppe peanuts were a hit with "the fam" too. that little place is crazy busy all the time -- people were going in and out in the pouring rain....and rightly so. and lastly let's not forget mary coyle ice cream. good show akron! btw campus was looking good too, lot's of new stuff (well, new to me). http://www.ohiobrewing.com/ http://stores.akronpeanuts.com/StoreFront.bok http://www.marycoyle.com/about.cfm i guess these giant, mutant daddy long-leggers come out after a good summer rain? along with every piece of peanut related memorabilia you can imagine, the peanut shoppe has 2 old planter's roasters. they still use one everyday! heading out --- yay for mary coyle on market street

August 6, 200816 yr Its funny I just "discovered" the Peanut Shoppe this past winter when I was at Lock 3 for the German ChristKindl. One of those booths was roasting nuts and selling smallish paper bags for like $4-5 and it smelled so good I had to have some but then realized that it might be cheaper outside the Lock3 at the Peanut Shoppe. I've known it was there, I just never made it inside since I'm mainly downtown after 8pm when they're closed. I walked in there and was astounded at the variety and the inexpensiveness. I was able to buy 2 bags of items for like $3. Nice pics. I'm glad you like Ohio Brewing.
August 7, 200816 yr I like what they did with the fire escapes up against the brick wall, and the UA building is neat (esp w. Akrons sloping streets). I guess three is some sort of peanut connection with Akron?
August 7, 200816 yr Sorry Jeffrey there's no connection to peanuts and Akron. The brick walled building with the fire escapes would be the Akron Civic Theatre with its Moorish Spain interior. The other UA building that you saw is formerly a Department store out of Akron called Polsky's and it was a direct competitor to Oneils that is across the street from it. Polskys now holds the Summit College or UofA community college and a Starbucks.
