DAYTON — A new branding campaign promoting Dayton will link the city's history of innovation with a future energized by that same spirit of creativity and originality.

The tagline is "Dayton Patented. Originals Wanted."

City officials launched the branding campaign today, Aug. 6, during a meeting at The Cannery with members of the Creative Class initiative, a regional community empowerment project focused on revitalizing the area's economic competitiveness.

I'm normally not a big fan of civic branding campaigns. Most of them try too hard and end up looking silly.

But I like this one. Simple. To the point.

From a marketing program perspective, I like it.

Not bad.

The firm that did this apparently specializes in city branding.  Some of their work looks a bit predictable to me, but this is one of their better efforts.

One can see there is a local aspect to their work..that it works with local perceptions that might not be evident to outsiders...the Sebastapol logo using the apple would only be picked up on if one knows the place...its a big apple-producing area in norhtern California.

Very pro-active.

While I think the coffee sack look has been done to death by the likes of Old Navy / Hollister, I kinda like it - and it definitely beats "Get Midwest"

I think Dayton has done a good job with this brand effort because it hits on something authentic.  Take note, Columbus...

Apparently, the city has stuck with it and is still promoting Dayton Originals via online videos.  The city is just waiting to go viral..........

Here's a lady who's done a lot of renovation work in South Park and also grew up there:
