After visiting Tremont (a very nice and friendly neighborhood with an artsy/laid back feel), we made our way back to Ohio City.

Part 4

An interesting mix of hipsters, nice architecture, and lush landscaping.  Overall, not bad!

^Hipsters + spray paint = dangerous combination

^Likely not hipsters - probably crunchy, dried-up "activists". Mind you, they're wasting resources that could be allocated to helping the poor, because the city will have to use funds to clean up that crap.

MayDay, first of all, the city is not going to clean up the spray-painted commentary on this bridge in Tremont. It's been there for months and is not really hurting anyone. If the city were to clean it up, I doubt the funds used to clean it up would be reallocated from the helping-the-poor fund.

Tremont is one of my favorite neighborhoods anywhere. I'm happy for the gentrification that has transformed the neighborhood but am also happy that the forces of gentrification in Cleveland are not strong enough to rip the soul out of a neighborhood overnight. The crunchy dried-up activists you refer to can certainly be a pain in the ass, but their presence is one of the reasons that life is good here. The hipsters are nice to have around, but they can get out of hand too. Some of them are little bit vapid. Have you noticed that?

Very excellent series!

Thanks, I am glad that you all enjoyed the tour.

What was Tremont like before it was "stolen from the poor"?

That was funny. I guess I am glad that Tremont was "stolen from the poor".

^Unitil this post, I thought the spraypainted writing had said "stolen from the poop"

give me back my poop!

When I walked across the bridge I also thought that it said poop, but my friend told me that it said poor not poop. lol

Thanks, I am glad that you all enjoyed the tour.

What was Tremont like before it was "stolen from the poor"?

Well, in the late 70's a national magazine (can't remember which) ran an article on it called "The White South Bronx", if that gives you an idea.  It was bad, the area where all those new townhouses are located was being burnt to the ground by arsonists, who were in the hire of a property owner who owned most of that area and wanted the insurance money.  Much of the rest looked like a scene from rural appalachia, just denser.

Tremont may or may not have been stolen from the poor, but I doubt that much of it would be standing today if it wasn't for the gentrification.  Too much of it was on too steep a downslope.
