If he wants Lebron to just shut up and play basketball, he should shut up and pour drinks for people who want to watch Lebron play basketball while not using his position as a business owner to further an agenda.

cancel culture run amok.

also, absolutely no one outside of conservatives on the west side (and you) seem to care about it. Enjoy your victory lap, I guess? I'm sure we'll be talking about this years from now as the turning point for Linneys

LOL. Everything is OTR now.

I've always hated "Central Business District" as a neighborhood name, since it implies there's only one use for the neighborhood (and every city has a similarly named district). Maybe Kroger was onto something with their "Over the Rhine" store; we could rename CBD to "Under the Rhine". UTR ('you-tee-are') still rolls off the tongue well.

What’s wrong with “downtown”?

"Downtown" works of course, but it conflicts with the city's more expansive branding of "Downtown" and "Uptown", with Downtown including CBD, OTR, and West End and Uptown including CUF, Clifton, Correyville, etc.

OTR's newest bar, opening in July, will be an urban oasis

An upcoming bar aiming to open next month in Over-the-Rhine plans to be an urban oasis, and community gathering space in an emerging part of the neighborhood.

Somerset Bar at 139 E. McMicken Ave. is shooting to open by mid-July. The bar is a project from Northcrown Property, a real estate group founded by Cincinnati startup entrepreneurs.

Somerset is a bar divided into discrete spaces. The bar is entered through a courtyard, the entrance of which is a large gate that used to protect a village in Northern India, which dates back at least 180 years. That courtyard will house a converted double-decker bus, which will serve as a food truck serving up Mexican street food from Mazunte, but also with its own private deck for seating on the second level, which the owners envision groups will reserve for private seating.

Gorilla Cinema partnering with local video game developer for 3 new bars; first opening in OTR this fall

The first cocktail Jacob Trevino created as a professional bartender, while working at Salazar in Over-the-Rhine, was the Bruce Banner, named for the alter ego of the comic book character the Incredible Hulk.

Today Trevino is known for creative and whimsical bars through his company Gorilla Cinema, like a Neo Tokyo-inspired karaoke bar with private rooms and a robot server; and a tiki bar entered through a windswept video store, a speakeasy with tropical vibes.

For his newest outing, Cosmic Gorilla at 1834 Race St. across from Findlay Market, Trevino is turning to the roots that inspired his first cocktail, opening a comic book shop and lounge in Over-the-Rhine. The goal is to open this fall.

3CDC adds bar to Fountain Square

Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC) has installed a container bar on the west side of Fountain Square.

The 20-foot by 8-foot container is set up with 10 bar chairs along the perimeter and 10 surrounding café tables that can each seat up to four people. Named the Container Bar, it replaces the temporary concession stand that was set up on the east side of Fountain Square during events. It is a full-service bar selling beer, wine and spirits.

I don't know if it's coming from facebook, instagram or other places but I have had quite a few random people (people who don't normally talk about developments or OTR) bring up Somerset, so yes it is in fact quite hyped. I walked by last week and the bar was not close to being finished, it was roughed in electrical and plumbing with a die wall and that was it, so it will take some overtime to make that next week timeline true.

I'm very hyped for Somerset. I love the details and open area that they have put into this project.

MOTR Pub now requires proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test for entry. Queen City Radio is now requiring masks for all patrons regardless of vaccination status.

I have seen a number of people on social media threatening to "boycott" these bars or saying "I hope you go out of business!!!!11!~~" which is sadly to be expected...but it's not like any of the people making those threats were likely to be customers anyway.

Somerset has been hyped. Look at there Instagram page. It speaks for itself.

Troeros might be the only one on here making consistent posts about Somerset, but who ever is in charge of their marketing has been doing an excellent job. I've seen all kinds of marketing on Instagram, CityBeat, and Reddit about this place. It's created some buzz even among some friends of mine offline. People who live downtown and in OTR are excited for it to open.

For every person that says they will boycott (but wasn't their clientelle anyway) there are people like me who still haven't been to a live show yet and we will be more willing to come back knowing this is the case. The unfortunate thing is the college age kids creating fake vaccination cards to go with their fake IDs...

So good on hype, not so good on construction.  Look I hope they do well and it could be quite the game changer for that area but hype people tend to get bored easily and move on to the next project.  Especially when non bar people realize that running a bar takes a crazy amount of personal involvement.

I am 100% with you. Not dumping on these people in particular.... but I don't think the average person understands what a monumental effort it takes to open, and then continue to operate a bar/restaurant business on the daily.

This showed up on my feed, and I can flat promise that they have no clue.

Yeah I’m not sure where the no experience statement is coming from? ^

And construction is mostly wrapped up and they have publicly stated that the delays are because of permits that they are waiting approvals for.

It’s okay to be excited for something. Everything on their social media shows a bar that looks top notch in the design and atmosphere department.

Yes. The invitation-only soft launch was last week... but they haven't announced the public opening yet.

Somerset is officially open as of Friday.

Hours are 4pm to 2am.

Again, some people will roll their eyes regarding the hype behind this bar…I get it..with that said, I stopped by Saturday and was gobsmacked by the attention to details and how the owners were able to transport you into a different world. It’s a theme style bar you would find in LA, NYC, Miami, Chicago, London, Hongkong, Singapore, etc…this is a genuinely a first for Cincinnati and I applaud this ownership group for what they have curated and achieved.

I hope everyone gets to check them out soon and I simply cannot wait for their second themed bar experience on Main Street.

I checked out Somerset on Sunday after the Bengals game and it was very cool. There were still some kinks being worked out including hearing many people ask for a local beer on draft (including some Vikings fans in town) only to be told they didn't have any local beer on draft. They are in the brewery district, so they should be supporting local breweries.

Other than that the place was great, all the varied seating options, private little nooks and crannies were extremely intimate and unique. Walking my in-laws from Northern Row down McMicken to the bar was an interesting journey and I could feel their trust in me waning but everyone was happy once we arrived.

@Troeros2did you hear what they are planning with the Main street location? I've only seen the garage door open once and there wasn't much to see.

I’ve heard talks about it being an Art Deco 1960 theme but not sure how true that is.

They didn't have their keg room cooler working so they had limited selection. I believe their full menu has lots of local stuff.

I saw on Facebook that the Frost Factory will be opening a second location at the Banks in the spring.  No other details were posted.  They're currently located at the Liberty Center.  I've never been, but it's a build your own alcoholic slushy bar.  Earlier this year I was telling my girlfriend how something like that would be perfect for the Banks, I'm glad someone listened. 🙂

Pretty sure it's going to go in the Radius building, just west of The Escape Room.

Indeed.

Boozy slushy bar headed to the Banks

A bar specializing in frozen boozy beverages that first opened in Liberty Center last summer is bringing its brand of chilled cocktails to the Banks.

The Frost Factory, which first opened at the Liberty Center in July 2020, is opening a new location in retail space under the apartment complex Radius at the Banks. Jamie Gregory, who owns the Frost Factory with her husband Kei, told me she hopes to be open by Reds Opening Day 2022.
