April 7, 20178 yr They should have a disclaimer that pregnant women should not consume food there for fear of toxoplasmosis Isn't that pretty much only if you're around cat litter? Seems like an over-abundance of caution. My statement was mostly a joke. But theoretically, if the person handling the cat litter for this cafe also handles the food and forgets to wash their hands, it could happen.
April 8, 20178 yr In the US I think health codes generally make it so that the cats are kept in one room, and the food service is in another. So you aren't really eating with the cats, it's more like a big cat shelter with a coffee shop attached. In Taiwan there seemingly aren't any rules at all and the cats are just all over the place. So far as I know no one has ever died as a result of this. I'm heading there in May and while looking for hotels found a hotel that apparently has cats. I'm not sure how that works but needless to say it's absolutely on my short list of places to stay. I saw cat cafes all over Korea and Japan last year. So nice to be able to enjoy a cup of coffee with a furry friend!

April 25, 20178 yr Cintas Center renovation will bring beloved bar back to life One part of the ongoing renovations of the Cintas Center at Xavier University will bring back memories for local residents and alumni. The Norwood Cafe, more commonly known as the Woods, will get new life in the basketball arena after the former bar that sat at the corner of Dana and Cleneay avenues was demolished in 2008 to make room for the University Station development. April 29, 20178 yr Walnut Hills bar expanding with new additions A Walnut Hills bar is launching into summer by opening a patio bar and starting a series of outdoor movie screenings. The move is only appropriate for Video Archive, which is a video store/speakeasy at 965 E. McMillan St. The establishment is themed off of a video store where director Quentin Tarantino worked, but a shelf of movies slides open to reveal a Tarantino-themed bar in the back portion of the building. May 1, 20178 yr Neon's is officially being replaced by 4EG. They are calling the space "Rosedale". Not sure why. Food and bar is to be expected. The announcement said Summer 2017.
May 1, 20178 yr On the columns, which I'm sure was transplanted from some different site, says rosendale manor. Guessing that's the origin of the columns originally.

May 3, 20178 yr 4EG partner dishes on future of former Neons space in Over-the-Rhine The operator of some of the biggest bars and venues in Cincinnati is taking over an iconic spot in Over-the-Rhine, and its managing partner said he wants to maintain it as that neighborhood's backyard. May 3, 20178 yr Just curious, what makes 4EG lame? I think most of the bars they operate are just pretty normal bars with good beer selections, and nothing too gimmicky like some other bars that have opened recently.

May 3, 20178 yr Have we already talked about how the name "Buzzed Bull Creamery" sounds just a little bit unappetizing? What is bull cream? Further, why can't people in OTR just spike their UDF milkshakes like the rest of us?

May 4, 20178 yr Just curious, what makes 4EG lame? I think most of the bars they operate are just pretty normal bars with good beer selections, and nothing too gimmicky like some other bars that have opened recently. I think their bars are just kind of bland and safe. They have a few different concepts, and all are pretty 'meh'. They all seem to attract the similar type of person--generally bros and suburbanites. They all play shitty music. Pavilion is the closest thing Cincy has to a real club atmosphere, and it's SO incredibly terrible. Lachey's main clientele appears to be groups of suburban married couples out for a night downtown. Igby's has a cool interior, but could be so much better. It's the ground zero of douchebags in SW OH and NKY every Friday and Saturday night. Keystone is decent I suppose, but again, nothing special. 4EG is to bars/nightlife what Cheesecake Factory is to restaurants.

I was about to say "BUT BUT ALL THE GOOD RESTAURANTS!" then I realized I was mistaking 4EG for Thunderdome Restaurant Group. Oops. Low Spark is good, though.
May 4, 20178 yr I agree with you about some of 4EG's bars being bro-y, but I would guess that Rosedale will be more like The Lackman and Low Spark, which are pretty good places to hang out when they're not completely packed with people. I think the people at 4EG are pretty smart and they aren't going to mess too much with the Neon's formula. I have seen a few people making the claim that "no one who liked Neon's is going to go to this new place", or that Rosedale needs to add some sort of new theme to succeed, and I think those people are just missing the point of what made Neon's successful. It was just a big patio where you could hang out and run into people you know from the neighborhood. They had a good beer selection and a few good cocktails and a few games to play, but it wasn't a "cocktail bar" like Japp's or a "game bar" like The Rook. It was just a neighborhood bar. One the other hand, 4EG has left the door wide open... if it gets too backed with bros, everyone's going to call it Brosedale.
May 4, 20178 yr Lackman is good until you get the big crowds it really gets loud in that small space. The best bar in Over the Rhine IMO is Japps then Rhinehaus, and I've really had a good time getting drinks at Pontiac
May 5, 20178 yr Lackman is good until you get the big crowds it really gets loud in that small space. The best bar in Over the Rhine IMO is Japps then Rhinehaus, and I've really had a good time getting drinks at Pontiac My favorite spots in OTR were Liberty's Bar and Bottle and Motr. I liked Neons, but it seemed like I would always run into people from high school there, so I started avoiding it. Mecca looked potentially promising, if a little try hard, but it opened after I moved away, so I never got to check it out.

May 15, 20178 yr Right around 5th and Johnson in Covington, former Benchmark, 5th St. liquor building is becoming a sports bar. Has this been posted? https://www.facebook.com/HouseOfOrangeCovington/
May 16, 20178 yr Went to Buzzed Bull on Mother's Day, and waited in line for 20 minutes then another 45 minutes to get the ice cream. Everything was delicious but they need more than 4 mixers when they are jammed. Or they need more premade stuff that you can have the option to grab and go. We ordered, made my dad wait and drank at liberty's bar and bottle until he called us. Bourbon ice cream is great and all but an hour plus wait was a bit much, hopefully it was just growing pains.
May 16, 20178 yr That's the problem today in restaurants and retail. Customers all make the same decision at the same time and you can't predict when it is going to happen.
May 16, 20178 yr We went in yesterday and got a "flight" which consisted of sample sizes of 4 different flavors, which they all had pre-made. If they want to speed things up, I would think that they could keep the most popular combinations pre-made and offer that as a quick option if people don't want to wait for something custom made.

Igby's reminds me a of a lot of bars in River North, the kind I only got dragged to because of work outings. They have awesome interiors that include futuristic basement bathrooms with guys who will dry your hands for a tip but ultimately are places you want to stay far away from due to their entitled bro/trixie (who may have a trust fund) clientele. 4EG did a good job of adapting that formula to Cincinnati.

May 24, 20178 yr That space could be good if it is managed correctly. Especially with the disappearance of Neons....

May 24, 20178 yr 4EG will be opening a new bar in the Neon's space later this summer. It'll be called "Rosedale". Still need something to replace the Joe's Diner... There was a person doing some exterior work of the Joe's Diner space yesterday during the day and it looked like some construction material was inside and the door was open.

May 24, 20178 yr Yeah... I love the diner building... don't want to lose that. Just need a good restaurant owner to manage it!

They should just go all out with a Put-in-Bay theme!
May 25, 20178 yr I've been to a few all-inclusives resorts in the Caribbean that have these ... seems to be common in their outdoor bars. It's a great idea as it was hard to find a swing that was open.
May 25, 20178 yr I went to a beach bar in Mexico that had swing seating and it was a lot of fun. The college kids will probably love this spot.

Today I noticed they had a sign out front reading "Closed, ran out of nitrogen" and a liquid nitrogen delivery truck was out front. I went here yesterday. The concept is fun, with the nitrogen clouds seeping off the counter, but the ice cream was kinda flavorless IMO, with very little alcohol and it was so cold... I actually think I froze my tongue.
June 2, 20178 yr I kind of agree with the coldness of the ice cream thing. When I took my first couple bites it didn't taste like much at all (probably because it made my tongue numb), but after letting it warm up on a hot day it started to taste much better. They have a sign reminding you to not take alcohol out of the space, but is a cop really going to stop someone walking down the street with ice cream and give them a citation for an open container?
June 6, 20178 yr Who knows what's going on with this social media firestorm with the Treehouse Patio Bar?
