January 10, 201015 yr So looking forward, do you see a shift in districts? Things are changing. Two venues in Mt. Lookout will probably close. We have a casino going in about 2 blocks or so away from Main St. New restraunts/ bars opening in OTR including Senate, NEONS, Lavo, Grammers, plus a couple more that can announce on their own good time. All in addition to Pitifuls, Mixx, Miltons and Courtyard. I see, not the Main Street Entertainment Dist. but the OTR Entertainment Neighborhood. The difference will be more diverse in offerings and locations that are spread throughout OTR, not just in the 1200 block of Main. So is this a bad thing? Is this counter to what the residents want to see? Not the one's I know. Take a look at the bigger picture within a mile radius. Mt. Adams is going strong, Newport on the Levee, the CBD (say what you want about Cad. Ranch but I heard last night from a source they were at 30,000 in sales by half time and expected to do 70 for the night). All of this in such close proximity has a multiplier effect on the ability for any one venue here to draw patrons. Now is a great time to be downtown for both residents and venue owners. This city once closed at 6:00. Not any more. I could go on what the residents desire, but rarely are more bars and clubs on that list. Its funny that you say that because here we are on page 13 of the "Cincinnati Nightlife" thread. I haven't visited the Dry Cleaning Thread on UrbanOhio yet.

January 16, 201015 yr Organized a group of about 20+ to go to Mynt Martini last night. We let the manager know we'd be there just a few hours before we got there and they managed to set up a private area for us with our own servers. The manager himself even came over several times to check on everybody. The drinks were good and so was the crowd for early in the evening. I think most everyone who came with our group left with a positive perception...aside from those who just don't prefer that type of an atmosphere.
January 16, 201015 yr I dropped in there for a bit last night, also stopped in at FB's and Righteous Room. Righteous Room was packed, FB's not so much but I had the best time there. Not always my types of atmosphere, but every once in awhile... :)

January 22, 201015 yr All the places I mentioned are downtown and within a few blocks of Fountain Square. I'm not sure of anything going on this weekend, but next weekend is Final Friday and Cincy Beer Fest on Saturday.
January 25, 201015 yr I went to the Cricket Lounge in the Cincinnatian and Righteous Room for the first time on Saturday, Jan. 23. Both were crowded and Righteous was getting more packed when we left at a relatively early 10:30ish. I really liked the feel of the Righteous Room.

As a long time OTR resident myself (and longer time CBD resident), I will respond to this statement tomorrow. The radio just said "If the Saints win, they'll be partying all the way back to the French Quarter." Now imagine the Bengals in the Super Bowl. Sure, all of OTR or downtown won't be party central, but there DEFINITELY should be a place (in OTR) that can compete with the French Quarter when it comes to nightlife. Cincinnati's music/architecture/food/etc is different but it still could be cool. Maybe a nice mix of German beer/KY bluegrass/Cincinnati chili/African American etc.

February 24, 201015 yr Interesting that John Legend mentioned the two new clothing shops that have opened, because I don't believe the casino had any impact on their investment whatsoever. Original Thought Required opened because the owner lives in the neighborhood and it was a realized dream for him. I can't remember what the owner of Atomic Number Ten told me, but I don't remember the casino ever coming up in conversation.
February 24, 201015 yr ^ I had the same reaction. Seems like a number of these new ventures were already in the works before the casino proposal had been approved by voters. Still, it speaks well of OTR's potential when so many new businesses and developments are opening up there, in the midst of a dismal economy.

John had contacted Holly to ask about the current sales at the Q and what if any new businesses had moved into Main other than Neons and Jack Potts. Aside from all that, NEONS and Jack Potts were closely watching the casino debate. We pulled the trigger about two weeks prior to the vote and the Fries brothers came in within days of the vote. We initially contacted John London after he covered some of the Pendleton's residence reaction to the proposed casino and wanted to give the other side to their argument that it would do nothing but bring negatives to the area. This is a follow up of that October story when we didn't even realize the Fries brothers were considering the J-Hall space.

February 24, 201015 yr Dan MacDonald will be on 700 WLW with the Bill Cunningham Show at 1:00 talking about NEONS and Over the Rhine. This will go into more depth about the channel 5 piece last night about Main Street and OTR as a whole being affected in a positive way by the nearby casino.

"Over-the-Rhine is one of the only places left in the downtown area where people can come and invest in residential or business properties," said Jack Potts Tavern co-owner Paul Fries, who works as a firefighter in Over-the-Rhine. "All of the new residents, visitors, and soon-to-be casino workers are going to need places to eat and drink, and we're hoping to take advantage of that." Fries said Jack Potts will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 2pm to 2am and offer live music every night. The tavern will also feature a happy hour special that he hopes will draw Hamilton County administration and courthouse workers only a few blocks away to take advantage of $2 longnecks and well drinks. The 3,000 square-foot space at E. 13th & Main streets (map) features an outdoor patio, a stage with built-in house sound and lighting system that will be operated by a full-time sound technician for the best cover bands and acoustic acts around town according to Fries. "I play in a band called The Polecats and we regularly play at Jefferson Hall in Newport, but I remember playing at the Over-the-Rhine location back when Main Street was in its prime and it was the spot to be," exclaimed Fries. "I always loved the bar and the historic building." Beyond the attractions inside the walls of Jack Potts, Fries said that he has been impressed with the work of the Cincinnati Police Department at drastically reducing crime in the neighborhood over the past five years - something Fries has seen first-hand in reduced runs out of his fire house. The firefighter connections have also proved beneficial and inspirational to Fries as he works on Jack Potts with many firefighters offering their help to clean up the place. Fries also hopes that the tavern becomes a neighborhood hangout for police officers and firefighters. "We're really looking forward to opening with Neon's and creating two comfortable live music venues for the neighborhood right next door to one another," said Fries. "Once the casino opens, and the streetcar starts running, this will be a great entertainment area." Jack Potts Tavern will also open for this weekend's Bockfest celebration.

March 25, 201015 yr NEONS Unplugged has just been given the green light by all of the various inspectors (city, liquor and health) to open on Friday, April 2. It should be a full weekend at NEONS which will also be opening early for Reds opening day.
