May 3, 200817 yr There is another thread on here about Ben and Jerry's, apparently the place was very poorly run. For those who haven't been around for awhile, Cold Stone tried and failed in the same area when Urban Outfitter's opened (well Barney's Coffee failed really quickly then Cold Stone failed only slightly more slowly).
May 3, 200817 yr From Graeter's website "The gentle folding process prevents air from whipping into our ice cream and accounts for the extremely dense and creamy consistency." Graeter's is some dense stuff, I like B&J too but I don't think it's any denser than Graeters. It does how ever have lots of delicious chunks. I never went to the one on Calhoun because usually I was looking for real food, which I didn't know that they apparently had. Maybe they needed to market themselves better since it was different than any other B&J I've seen and took up more space which obviously cost the more. I am sad we missed free cone day, last year when I was in St. Louis, B&J was across the street from my apartment so I just hopped in line a couple times during the day. yum. Graeters does slow whip but compare the nutritional information fat content between some comparable flavors... BJ is still a bit denser ;)
May 3, 200817 yr I think Ben & Jerry's has the edge when it comes to more diversity of flavors. It was nice to have a Ben & Jerry's on Calhoun though. Greater's on Ludlow and UDF on Clifton are too far to walk from campus.
May 4, 200817 yr ^True, although the seasonal flavors graeters comes out with blow B+J out of the water. Their peach is to die for. I really wish graeters would take that space, they would succeed there. Then again I walk down to ludlow for skyline if nothing else. I still think graeters would be a win there.

You live in Clifton Heights? I like walking to Skyline too but my friends always complain about how far the walk is. Ugh. I agree, Graeters would be great. If they can afford a spot at Hyde Park Sq. I don't see why Calhoun would be a problem.
May 4, 200817 yr >I like walking to Skyline too but my friends always complain about how far the walk is. Ugh. Tell them I said they're wimps.
May 4, 200817 yr I do all the time. My 'friends' are ridiculous. My room mate orders takeout 2-3x a day because he's too lazy to walk to MCMILLAN, let alone cook. We bred a generation of sissies.
May 4, 200817 yr ^ I live on Straight, about halfway down. So I walk up the hill, then back down to Ludlow... Its a chimp easy walk. Too easy really...
May 4, 200817 yr Friday afternoon there were crews in the Ben & Jerry's spot stripping the place. All the furniture and equipment are out and they finally removed all the signs from the windows
May 4, 200817 yr Shame the UDF on Hartshorn isn't there any more. So glad it's been replaced by nothing.
May 4, 200817 yr It is no surprise Ben & jerry's went out of business there. I admit, it is good ice cream but a one dip cone is like $4. That is way more expensive than even Graeters (which I personally like better)
May 4, 200817 yr :shoot:[ Ewwww mass transit ] The way I see it - and this goes for the UC shuttle as well. If I'm going to wait 10-20 minutes for a bus and be on that bus for another 5 minutes, why not just walk for 15 minutes? Many people don't consider either option. Of course common sense isn't common.
May 4, 200817 yr The first couple of times someone makes the walk up Clifton hill it sucks, but during the day the bus is pretty reliable. I think a streetcar would be great. :-D

I don't think I've ever waited more than 5 minutes to catch the 17, 18, or 19...all of which will take you between those two points.

I HATE HATE HATE seeing two 17 buses show up at the same time. Or seeing a 17 and an 18 show up at the same time. Its like, lets get some coordination here and maybe speed up the 17 so it could have served me 15 minutes before when I began waiting. Ive been late to too many classes this quarter. bah. The same goes for the 2 in Columbus. ha.
May 4, 200817 yr platooning is a big problem for busses. Streetcars have a much lower dwell time per passanger boarding and especially for handicapped boarding which can cut down on platooning.
August 8, 200816 yr Discussion relating to McMillan Park has been split off into its own topic, and this particular discussion has been moved into the Completed Projects section.
August 24, 200816 yr Quick update: DENIM boutique has opened in the former Cold Stone spot next to Urban Outfitters on Ohio St. They have not had their grand opening yet, but just did a soft opening earlier in the week. They carry premium denim from brands like Rock & Republic and True Religion plus cool tee shirts and sweatshirts from Nati Evolution, Morphine Generation, etc. Very cool stuff, I always thought a concept like this would work well there. I hope they can pull it off.
August 25, 200816 yr Do you have a website link for the company/store? I'm having trouble finding anything.
August 25, 200816 yr http://www.shopdenimonline.com/ is their website, but it does not have any info on the Ohio St. store yet....just their Oakley location. Here are some of the brands they carry: 575 Alternative Apparel Brown Label Converse Denimbirds Golden Goose Goldsign Homage J Brand James Cured Ksubi Lofli Morphine Generation Nati Evolvement NFY Notify Rebel Yell Rock & Republic Rogan RVCA True Religion Union
August 25, 200816 yr Nice! I'm very excited that there is another clothing store going in up in that area...it's even better that it's a local store. Fantastic.

Idk if this is true, but if they haven't had their grand opening yet, than I suppose it's too early to tell.
August 25, 200816 yr The store is actually in Clifton Heights, or you could refer to it as being in Uptown...but it's nowhere close to being in Clifton.
August 25, 200816 yr Anything around UC is always commonly referred to as Clifton. That doesn't make it any more accurate.
August 25, 200816 yr ^But it does make it colloquial. Look on American Apparel's website and see where they list their store as being. Of course I know that CUF is not Clifton, but the whole area is generally called "Clifton", just like many of Chicago's northside neighborhoods are called "Lincoln Park", and Victorian and Italian Villages are often lumped in with the Short North.

It's quite a bit smaller than the Oakley store, but has many of the same brands. I'm excited about this place.
October 24, 200816 yr There is work being done on another store front (next to the T-Mobile store)...the workers wouldn't tell me what it was, or didn't know what it was they were working on. I also couldn't find a permit with any kind of designation that would tip me off. So those of you who are up in that area regularly, keep an eye out.
March 11, 200916 yr Five Guys burger outlet slated for UC area Five Guys Burgers, a fast-food chain that serves only burgers, fries and soft drinks, is opening its first Cincinnati location in Clifton Heights and plans 15-20 more. The restaurant will open in the Calhoun Street Marketplace near the University of Cincinnati, according to a release from real estate firm the Everest Group, which represented the chain. March 13, 200916 yr They have finally glitzed up the bldg. There has been an abundance of empty storefronts along the Calhoun St. since the beginning of the schoolyear. They have finally added some life to the bldg. Banners now hang on every window along the street. These banners advertise CHURC and other Uptown organizations. There are also three stores being worked on simultaniously with matching banners (to the others) showing what they are. Maybe they need to put some banners or something back up in the 3 or 4 remaining empty storefronts.
March 13, 200916 yr No idea, but in case you haven't been to one, 5 guys is pretty good, straight forward burgers with fresh cut fries.
March 13, 200916 yr Which spot is Five Guys taking? I'm wondering the same thing myself. It's hard to tell because they are using most of the empty units for storage.
April 30, 200916 yr Construction is underway in the two units to the left of Buffalo Wild Wings. Not sure if Five Guys will be a two-unit-wide storefront or if another business might be going in.
May 7, 200916 yr ^ Here's the answer: We will be getting not only a Five Guys Burgers, but also a Donatos Pizza.
May 14, 200916 yr ^ Here's the answer: We will be getting not only a Five Guys Burgers, but also a Donatos Pizza. Five Guys is some good stuff. It's expensive, but good. I never saw them prior to moving to Annapolis, but it's a nice thing. I imagine it'll make lots of money at its location on Calhoun St. It appears this is the first location in Cincinnati, is it also the first location in Ohio?
May 14, 200916 yr There is one opening in Grove City near Columbus---I don't know which will open first.
May 14, 200916 yr Ohio State now has one. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
May 26, 200916 yr The sign for Five Guys is now up on the building. Also, "now hiring" signs are in the windows, and it looks like most of the framing & drywall work is finished in that unit.
