Posted August 10, 200816 yr I attended Burning River Festival tonight around 6pm, and took a bunch of shots. Thought I'd share. * I was disappointed with the event. It was billed to run from 1-11pm, but when I got there, all of the exhibits and booths were already shut down. I heard everything was down around 4pm. Why market the event until 11pm then? There wasn't much else do to other than spend $5 on a cup of Great Lakes beer and see what other food options were available. Around 7:30pm, everyone was moved over to the Plain Dealer Pavilion and there wasn't much to do other than drink and listen to the bands. Nonetheless, enjoy the photos!
August 10, 200816 yr BRF was divided into two different functions this year. The "Green Fest" portion ran from 11 to 6 and the BRF portion (the part with the headliners/music) was from 6:30 to 11. I know for a fact no tents on the boardwalk were closing down at 4, as I was one of the many red-shirted volunteers. There may have been a couple inside the large tent though as they were overwhelmed with families and had run out materials to give away. The music fest portion started promptly at 6:30 and the opening act finished moments before the storm hit. The lead singer then had the crowd sing a quick version of "rain, rain, go away...," reggae style. For the almost 100 people that stuck it out, they were treated to a reader's digest version of all the major Dave Matthew's hits. That started a little after 10:30. I left around 11:30 (I had been there since 11:00 AM) so I'm not sure how long they played.I think midnight is the curfew. Last years drew around 7,000 people, this years was projected to hit 12,000. I know they beat last years, but not sure by how much. I have a butt-load of pi as well and will post the best of soon.
August 11, 200816 yr nice. It would be nice if there were units closer to the water. Cleveland looks so clean these days.
August 11, 200816 yr some random thoughts having attended the last few years. I loved the Wendy Park location (last 2 years I believe). It was nice to lay on the grass and listen to music. However this setting really reduces accessability for people that have mobility challenges. I was skeptical about the pavilion location, but as it turned out, the festival actually ran mostly along the river boardwalk and it looked great. The location far exceeded by expectations. We went for a few hours in the early afternoon and everything was jumping. The booths seemed more organized being under the tent rather than scattered all over, and I thought the food was much, much better than years past. Having real flush toilets and a clean table to eat on was nice as well. The entertainment was good as well. We walked home took a nap, and then headed back in the evening. As cd cleveland noted, it was dissappointing that much of the festival was being broken down, although I recall this pattern in other years. If you can only go a few hours, I think earlier is better than later. I did not like this years reggae band as much as Carlos Jones. They had the volume way too loud. As the storm hit, we went into the Rock Bottom, along with 100's of other people (nuts). This was nice to have decent shelter for extreme weather b/c neither Wendy Park or Voinivich have this. The city looked great and I ended up being very pleased with the right smack on the river location.
August 12, 200816 yr we blew our money on turducken sandwichs and dortmunder gold. We live in pretty small space so we don't buy much that cannot be eaten or drank. Although...that stand that had brewing and other cooking supplies (make your own stuff from bubble gum to corn beef) had me interested.
August 12, 200816 yr After the storm, beer went from $5 (5 tickets) to $2 :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:

August 12, 200816 yr Nice shots... We should be having more of these kinds of festivals; esp on non-weekend nights along the West Bank.
August 12, 200816 yr I had a great time at the festival, was very impressed with the exhibits/vendors and the weather was beautiful (at least in the afternoon)!
