YOUNGSTOWN

Testing shows that workmanship — not the concrete itself — created the problems on the newly poured Federal Station east parking lot, says a local engineer.

The Western Reserve Transit Authority completed a repaving project of the Federal Station parking lot, plaza and decorative concrete dividers in June but asked for further study after observing light marks on the concrete surface and water puddling.

...

In other business, Ferraro reported that ridership for September was up at 117,881 this year compared with about 113,000 in September 2010. Ferraro said he expects total 2011 ridership to top 1.3 million. The final number of riders totaled 1,261,827 in 2010, an increase from 1,027,196 in 2009.

Just to be clear, the "lot" in question is where the buses load and unload passengers at Federal Station.

Transit board seeks levy in Trumbull

WARREN

Members of the Trumbull County Transit Board have asked county commissioners to put another countywide transit levy on the ballot in the March 6 primary.

The transit board, cre- ated to run the county’s public-transportation service when the existing Niles Trumbull Transit service ends Jan. 1, is making its request less than a month after voters rejected a 0.5-mill, five-year countywide transit levy at the general election.

Voters rejected the levy 64 percent to 36 percent. It would have cost the owner of a $100,000 house $17.50 per year and raised about $1.6 million annually.

Deadline extended to complete WRTA survey

Published: Wed, June 20, 2012 @ 2:32 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Western Reserve Transit Authority is extending the deadline to complete its survey to June 29 because a link to survey was not available at WRTAonline.com this week.

The link should be available on the WRTA website now and its Facebook page, www.facebook.com/WRTA.OH, and participants also can get to the survey directly at http://bit.ly/MgfSYo.

The survey responses will be anonymous and are being managed by a third party, but if respondents give their email address at the end of the survey, they will be entered to win a $50 gift card.

FYI: Not much good news comes to WRTA. The (Youngstown) Vindicator has a front page article and pictures about the long awaited repairs to the downtown Federal Station. $1.1 million for interior improvements over 6 months. Ashley Luthern, [email protected], did the story.

Got a link to the story? That doesn't sound like bad news, unless it wasn't anticipated.

Long-awaited repairs are coming to the Western Reserve Transit Authority’s downtown Federal Station.

I'm told there were additional illustrations in the print version of this article.  If I can get them, I'll scan and post them here.

This is needed very much.  But I can't help but be disappointed that my firm wasn't hired to do the work.  As the firm that designed it, and were involved in every renovation, we were uniquely qualified to do the work.

Youngstown residents feel hardship of food desert

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Most people in the city of Youngstown live miles away from the closest grocery store.

And 20 percent, or one in five people, don’t own a car. 27 Investigates found out how hard it is for some residents to get the things they need.

Leonard Pope has three kids and no car. A trip to the grocery store is a four-hour ordeal. He waits on the bus to pick him up and he said the wait on Saturday can be longer. So, he has to change his shopping habits.

It's hard to believe yours is the most news WRTA has made since 2012. I have sent a few of my Northside ideas to WRTA with no response.

I'm sure there's been some WRTA news. I hope you will keep your eyes open for it and share it.

I do get to see the Warren Express coming into Warren and going out to Youngstown. I have noticed since it is Summer, (or YSU ? is out), the numbers seems down.

Youngstown Downtown Greyhound WRTA Bus Terminal is one of the worst I have been in Ohio.  Dirty and the agent there is nowhere near help full. And to think that it used to be in the old PRR Station aka Fireworks store

What happened this was supposed to be state of the art 10 years ago and now its run down!

How long ago were you there?  They just finished a complete interior renovation within the last year.

This is great news! Warren has no regular route transit service and no Greyhound service. Considering how poor that community has become, it's totally unacceptable to not have any public transportation services there...

Here's why people think Trumbull should have joined WRTA — jobs, independence and more

WRTA last year received a $1.6 million state grant to create six new fixed paratransit routes around the City of Warren, and $800,000 for countywide door-to-door service. The routes, which branch out from the city center into Champion, Bazetta, Howland and Warren townships, are expected to continue running only through next month, for lack of continued funding. WRTA’s countywide service, however, will continue through the end of the year.
