I hope you use the word "required" loosely. They never check. Plus the hotel has their own shuttle that will take you door-to-door anywhere in the immediate area.

November 16, 201014 yr The most interesting thing from that link was the $10M expansion of Bogarts (this is the first I had heard of this), followed closely by the redevelopment of The Benchmark both projects would be heavily benefited by future streetcar extension north.
November 16, 201014 yr ^ Bogarts $10 mill expansion was talked about in 2008 and then the recession hit. Part of the 10 million includes a parking structure... details at the time were very vague.

December 9, 201113 yr Cincinnati gets a Hampton Inn that has an entrance to a parking deck, with an uninviting and unpedestrian friendly design, with styrofoam exteriors. And a drive-by sign. Columbus has a Hampton Inn just outside of Short North on High Street that has a very distinct and inviting design. Not comparing the two cities, but obviously we are having some problems in Cincinnati communicating design standards and how they should conform to the neighborhood. The Banks is a good example of this. I went to several meetings where the design of the facades was questioned way back before work began on the buildings, and what resulted was a questionable facade and awful signage. 65 West and all of the awful student apartments is another example. There are some shining stars, such as Stetson Square, which is just down the street from Corryville's Hampton Inn - yet there is zero consistency in design.

December 12, 201113 yr ^Well, I can definitely agree with that. The destruction of the Victorian homes for replacement by these suburban holding cells is hardly analogous. I'm upset about the lack of will to reuse the Schiel School for adaptive reuse. I'm upset about surface lot adjacent to the Hampton Inn. However, I'm excited about the redensification of the Vine Street development, which had been a waste of space with the old Benchmark location and parking.
December 12, 201113 yr OCtoCincy, Did the "crappy" renderings communicate the building design to you? Then I'd say they were effective. Who cares if you don't think the renderings aren't pretty enough--they're not meant for your bedroom walls.

I think they would be designed, in part, to prohibit some of this by describing things like the relationship between the building and the street. Does anyone have any information about whether a form-based code is likely to be proposed for Cincinnati in the near future?

June 17, 20159 yr Will these be facing MLK? I think the rendering indicates that they will be, but that would make for a fairly odd set up with the hotel facing the rear of the restaurants. Hopefully they will design these buildings to work from both MLK and the parking deck/hotel.
