Can someone post contact information for some of Forbes' editorial staff?

Seems accurate, but on their website, they have a picture of Minneapolis under the Duluth section. Toledo and El Paso are the largest cities on there by a good margin, so I'm guessing credit card debt is more of a problem in small cities than big cities.

The Most Debt-Ridden Cities

1. Wilmington, N.C.

2. Canton-Massillon, Ohio

3. Toledo, Ohio

4. Duluth, Minn.

5. El Paso, Texas

6. Asheville, N.C.

7. Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent, Fla.

8. Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, Ohio/Pa.

9. Fayetteville, N.C.

10. Winston-Salem, N.C.

What's up with Ohio and North Carolina cities holding seven of the 10 spots? Is there something in those states' laws or credit reporting requirements that artificially raises them?

Where did that picture of Duluth come from?  This is a city of about 85,000 people and an MSA of about 275,000.  What city's skyline is that?

I recall a series of photos in another list of which Cleveland was again one of the losers and although the pictures for the other loser cities showed dramatic skylines, our picture was of some boarded up storefronts.  I hate this constant media bias.

That be Minneapolis.

TMH, that was actually one of the positive lists Cleveland made it on, which was all the more ironic that they would choose to use this type of picture...

ClevelandOhio, yes, that's the one.  What on earth is going on at Forbes?  I think the mayor, Frank Jackson, should pursue some type of legal action.  Everywhere I travel, people have such a distorted view of what living in Cleveland must be like.  They think Cleveland is an empty war zone on the brink of total collapse.  When I tell them unemployment is at 8.5% (less than Seattle, Denver, Cincinnati, etc.) and that we are entering 2011 with a balanced budget and no major layoffs or tax increases, they are dumbfounded.

Legal?  Are you serious.

THE PROBLEM as I've said before

  • The forbes readers in NE Ohio say nothing, which leads me to believe their readership is at rock bottom
  • Cleveland/Cuyahoga County/NE Ohio have no PR/Communications strategy

And the "Innerbelt Bridge" is the only mentioned project for Cleveland.

Nevermind the Med Mart, Convention Center, Casino, Flats East Bank, Aquarium, ...

I provided a link, who here has written and corrected their view of our city?

hey MTS, been meaning to ask if you know what movie that picture is from?

heard it here first.. Cleveland is #4 on Yahoo Travels list of the worlds most visionary cities! (and the only US city on the list!)

That's a Travel & Leisure advertorial.  Another useless list.

Someone at Forbes magazine just jumped out a window.  Maybe it was Forbes.

Edit: What, Brazil got a mention for their BRT line but no Cleveland reference?

wait a minute now.. you can't get mad at one list with negative press, saying how damaging it is (i.e. Forbes), and then take one with positive results and say its useless. be happy!  send the link to your friends, relatives, and any ex-pats!  :shoot: :shoot:

Every time I'm unsure of how miserable I am supposed to be, I just let Forbes tell me. I always thought I was pretty happy but it turns out I'm actually pretty miserable!

And Forbes wonders why they are a joke in the publishing industry!

hey MTS, been meaning to ask if you know what movie that picture is from?

I don't think it's real. It almost looks like a shot of Earnest Borgnine during an episode of Airwolf with a woman from a '70s movie photoshopped in.

Honestly, I don't know.

Lord, Michelle is sure aging more gracefully than Barack.  Not a single wrinkle in that scowl.

MTS, I love the pic.  Who is that?  Baby-sub-Thing 2-Junior?

Regarding this latest Forbes piece of garbage... despite the fact that these lists are glaringly misleading, they're widely publicized and often affect the residents of the cities that have been attacked.  I think it's important to note the shift that occured between this "Miserable Cities" ranking and those prior.  It seems that popular culture has latched onto what we've known for quite some time...California and Florida are overhyped messes.  This is the time to go out and tell everybody that Ohio's coming back.  Discuss the close proximity of our cities, the every-day items that were invented and forged here, and the cultural aspects that make Ohio worth caring about with anybody and everybody who are finally ready to listen.

There is obviously a shift happening in this country right now.  We need to make sure that we pick up as many cards as possible while the decks falls.

Fargo is #2. Really??

I don`t know about you guys but I dream of Plano, TX.

Here it is 2011's most miserable cities. It's bullsh!t and dumbass but that's the point of thread. Cleveland is number 10...

http://www.forbes.com/2011/02/02/stockton-miami-cleveland-business-washington-miserable-cities.html

I actually laughed out loud when I read the list. It's like Forbes can't deal with the fact that Cleveland's economy is improving. Unemployment in this country is 9% and our national job growth is amemic yet it still uses factors such as "weather". It also looks like they really had to "work" those numbers to keep Cleveland there. Gainful employment and affordable mortgages vs. sports championships and weather???? Hahahahaha. This list is based in some pre-housing bust fantasy world.

My question is: I wonder how many people will be dumb enough to use these rankings to move to a place with a worse local/regional economy?

Forbes is soooooo 2000's. I bet they know it too. Oh well. :D

I don`t know man, I never seize to get surprised. One of my coworkers, whenever Ohio State loses a game, calls in sick the next day and so he can have some time to pout. He acts like a big vagina when it comes to sports. I`m sure there`s plenty of others out there like him too. February does kinda make me think weather is a factor but I definitely agree finances should come before anything.
