what in the world is driving people to move to Ocala Florida. No beach, literally swamp, humid as F. Is it because of the oppotunity of endless sprawl to build your own McMansion? I feel like I've been exiled when I'm in places like Ocala.

The Ocala, FL MSA includes part of The Villages, FL.  I'd assume that has something to do with its growth.

U.S. Cities With the Most International Tourism

I find it odd that of the major metros in Ohio, Cincinnati was 3rd. With nonstop flights to both CDG and LHR, I would've thought the amount of international visitors would be higher. I guess it speaks more to the local demand from the tri-state for overseas travel rather than the other way around.

the hottest zip code in the usa (2nd year in a row!) is truly hell, trust me -- 😂

The leafy Midwest suburb named the hottest ZIP code in the US - and the other surprising markets homebuyers love

By TILLY ARMSTRONG ASSISTANT CONSUMER EDITOR FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

PUBLISHED: 07:35 EDT, 25 August 2024

An unassuming suburb in the Midwest has been crowned the hottest ZIP code in the country.

Gahanna, a leafy suburb of Columbus, Ohio has been named as the most in demand property hotspot for the second year in a row by Realtor.com.

A small town of just 35,000, Gahanna in central Ohio is attracting homebuyers who are making offers at furious speed.

The area boasts affordable homes, with a median list price of $345,000, with good access to the big-city amenities of Columbus where several billion-dollar companies, such as Intel and Google, are expanding.

The area also offers good local schools for young families, plenty of shops and dining options in a busy downtown, and a friendly neighborhood community.

Top 12 TikTok-Approved Libraries To Visit In The US In 2024

By Kristi Roe-Owen
Aug. 9, 2024

To identify and rank the best U.S. libraries, we first took a deep dive into the app's library mentions and hashtags. Next, we ranked TikTok's top libraries based on the number of views, incorporating reviews and scores from Tripadvisor to help create a comprehensive picture of each library's engagement.

11. Cleveland Public Library in Cleveland, Ohio

spacer.png

Coming in close behind Morgan Library, Islands found the Cleveland Public Library also had a million TikTok views and a 4.5 rating on Tripadvisor, with slightly fewer reviews at 259 total. Split between two buildings in downtown Cleveland, the Cleveland Public Library has a historic main building that's a fan-favorite destination for many book lovers and is perhaps the jewel of the library system.

The other building is the beautifully modern Louis Stokes Wing. Standing at 163 feet and 10 stories high in the shadow of Cleveland's famous Key Tower, the annex features an ornate marble staircase, an arched ceiling ornamented with colorful medallions and an elegant grand chandelier, and an otherworldly blue stairwell that feels like a portal to another realm.

"Romanticize your life, do your reading at the Cleveland Library," TikTok account Cleveland Vibes advised in their tribute to the library. Tripadvisor user John Snethen wrote, "A true gem of knowledge, history, and architecture. Ask for a personal tour from Mr. Spencer, one of the librarians," calling the former Marine "A fount of knowledge about the library and Cleveland."

I just got back from Detroit myself. I'm sorry but Downtown Detroit blows Cleveland out of the water, and it's not even close for discussion. The amount of retail alone on Woodward Ave alone makes DET much more lively than downtown CLE. Shinola, Nike, H&M, with Gucci a block away. It's frankly shameful. And the historic architecture in DET is incredible when you compare it to Cleveland's brutalist buildings and seas of parking lots in it's city center.

Woodward does have a lot of nice retail that I wish we could attract (and keep) along Euclid Ave.  I wonder how they are able to support it, or if it will be sustainable in the long run.

Outside of that 3 block stretch of Woodward, though, there's just as many seas of parking as Cleveland, if not more.

Detroit is twice our size and their amazing in progress comeback has been long in the making thanks to Gilbert quietly transforming the city with his purchase of almost 100 properites (with lot's of city, State, and Federal subsidies). We are thankful for all he has done for Cleveland and hope Gilbert and Bedrock follow through on their grand Riverfront plans - if so we should have retail return like Detroit. I remember we had Gucci, Fendi, Barneys, Disney,etc,.. and it could happen again if those types of stores are the future state of retail. Regarding Gucci I see that iit s part of Gucci Changemakers North America, the brand’s social impact initiative and scholarship program, that was awarded to 12 cities (not sure if Cleveland competed - but if not, shame on us).

Regarding the top 10 Downtown video, we should just say thank you and leave it there - no need to be defensive as in the past - plus outsiders don't know what we know about how great we were and could be again, but if they see positives in our current Under Construction stage let's just accept their positive feedback.  Detroit has earned it and so have we.

Since 2014, $7 billion of debt was wiped away post bankruptcy, and Dugan has been a historically phenomenal mayor.

Since then federal funds have also

helped with bulldozing 24,000 blighted homes/structures and renovating thousands.

Lots of other reasons including Gilbert's involvement, four professional sports teams, revitalized green spaces/riverfront, etc, but I feel civic pride is the biggest one. Detroit vs Everybody just hits hard and makes its region want to be supportive.

Also, Michigan is a truly beautiful state with a fantastic governor.

It all adds up.

Sure, but I've also seen the ugly of Detroit where it was way more down than Cleveland ever has been, even in their downtown.  I'm not trying to bash them, though.  Good for them if they're making a comeback.  I'm just curious if this retail is sustainable.  We have had bursts of unsustainable retail downtown like Tower City in the 90s, the 5th Street Arcades, and Geiger's, so I was just wondering if this was actually different or would end up like too many of these downtown retail pushes do.

Also, I'm just being realistic about the seas of parking comment.  Detroit has as much of a problem with that as Cleveland.

It’s kind of hard to compare the two cities honestly. Even with a similar history, they are very different

Detroit has a very vibrant section of Downtown but after recently visiting they have a TON of parking lots. Due to a lot of those storefronts being owned by Bedrock, I wouldn't be surprised if they (at least initially) subsidized the rents to make it more enticing. I believe Cleveland will see the same retail surge on the Riverfront and within Tower City once those phases of the project come up.
