Ok here's the thread.. if you had one wish, but it had to be used to make Cleveland a better place.. what would it be? (And it can't be something dumb like "make it the biggest city in the world" or "to have unlimited budgets", it has to be something tangible, one project).

a more accessible lake front

A transformation of Cleveland into "rock and roll city," with all the bells, whistles, tourist shops, theme restaurants, bands, concerts and MONEY that would go with the brand.

CSU to get 10,000 students living on campus and a DI football team.

The Rock Hall could sponsor the old “World Series of Rock” type concerts at Browns Stadium. That would get the ball rolling…

My wish is that the Cleveland school district so good that suburbanites fight to get their kids in the schools.  Yep, it's a fairly boring wish, project-wise.

That would most likely have the most transformative effect on the city.

I agree, I really think a D-1 football team would go a long way to turning CSU into less of a commuter school.  Anyone know if this is in their master plan at all?

I second Avogadro's (and 3231's I guess?) wish, not only for the sake of subarbanites wanting their kids in the school system, but also for the sake of the kids already in the CMSD.

That's not my top wish, but that's an AWESOME one.  I'd love to see dual-use of CBS.

Mine would be to have a subway and/or more developed downtown rail system.  Although, it will probably change as I hear other people's wishes.

The school district wish is a good one. A lot of these other wishes could realistically happen if that one happened.

That all Clevelanders would be the city's biggest supporters and braggers.  Never hearing a Clevelander putting the city down again.

That's a good one, I like it.

I think something as simple as a CWRU College of Architecture version 2.0!

We have to be one of the biggest cities in America w/o a true college of architecture (UG, Grad+).  CUDC is a great resource and asset to the city but I think we could see some great things develop (tangible/intagible) if Case had a 5 year Bachelor of Arch. program.

This is selfish.. and would do little in terms of long-term development.. but the Browns winning the Super Bowl or the Tribe winning the World Series would be awesome at some point in my life..

Avogadro, she's got your number!!!

To make higher education more easily accessible to residents by way of more financial aid and social outreach. Give people the training needed to be able to compete in today's global marketplace, but also give them hope to get them out of the sad state so many of them are in.

I thought this was a thread about "One Cleveland" (the skyscraper) and the make-a-wish foundation.

That's wishful thinking.

For all Northeast Ohioans to become knowledgeable of the essential ingredients of great cities, which are common to all great cities worldwide -- a skilled, educated workforce, support systems which encourage entreprenuerial activity, integrated transportation/land use policies which ensure people of all incomes and physical abilities have access to opportunities, and interactive amenities that keep people happy.

What KJP said.

Quit violating the rules.. it's ONE wish, not a blanket statement that would make Cleveland a utopia..

Ha.. ha.. ha.. Although, when I interned there, I loved that cafe in the lobby..

I've been dying to use that line!!!

Re-read what my wish is. It's that Clevelanders gain knowledge/awareness of what makes cities great. What they do with that knowledge is up to them.

Maybe I should change my wish to have Clevelanders improve their reading comprehension?  :-P

^I'm not sure giving Clevelanders that "knowledge" would change much unless you also changed their preferences.

Sticking strictly to the rules ("one project"), I'm torn between the original HOPE VI plan for W25th and the dual hub.  Neither project would have been "transformative", but no one project ever is.  But damn would it have been good for Ohio City to pump up the residential base east of W25th and tie the Detroit end to the Lorain end.  And the dual hub's one seat ride to multiple downtown points and all of midtown would have been awesome for RTA ridership and allowed some bigtime rationalization and streamlining of bus routes.

Give me a lamp!

If they had knowledge, what other preference could they possibly have?!?!   :-D

Where has MTS been?  I'm sure he'd have some good wish for Shaker Square.. I mean, Cleveland as a whole :)

Some form of legalized casino gambling, ideally tied to the lake and river.
