A buddy and I are going to take a road trip up Ohio Route 4 sometime soon and I wanted to get everyone's advice on sites to see along the way. We're going to do the whole thing from Cincy to Sandusky. Suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Jungle Jim's might be the only noteworthy establishment near the Cincy end.

Here's a good resource: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_State_Route_4

My southern Ohio picks:

Fairfield: Jungle Jim's as noted.

LeSourdesville, near jct. SR 63: the ruins of Americana Amusement Park/Fantasy Farm.

Middletown, southern approach on SR 4: see vistas of decaying Section 8 housing in an iron ore setting. :) In fact, an entire city in an iron ore setting.

Germantown, at jct SR 725: proceed west (left) 3 mi or so to Germantown Reserve, one of the most scenic reserves in the Dayton Metroparks system.

Northeast Dayton: WPAFB and AF Museum nearby.

Personally, I think long sections of SR 4 would either drag and be boring as poo, or would be aggravating sections of high density traffic or lengthy 2 lane segments. I can think of much more scenic roadtrips and for that alignment I would personally opt for I-75 most of the way and cut across at Findlay. But whatever floats your boat.

What, the zombie problem there?

^ Zombie problems would only encourage a visit

^^ I think it's interesting to have such a variety of cities along one road, though I'm open to suggestions for an alternate road trip across Ohio. Obviously interstates can get me some place much quicker but that's not the point. I'd like to avoid interstates for this one.

Obviously, Sandusky has all that touristy stuff.  But just to the south of Sandusky near Bellevue (which lies just a couple miles west of SR 4) there are a couple things to do.

*At the corner of SR 4 and SR 113 is Lyme Village, a pioneer type thing.  http://www.lymevillage.com/index.html

*And in the city of Bellevue, on the south end of its downtown, is the Mad River & Nickel Plate Railroad Museum

*And between Bellevue and Sandusky is the Sand Hill Winery (wine tasting and sometimes live entertainment in an old barn).  I've never tried the wine though, so if you go let me know how that goes haha

US 42 might be a better route with more to do. 22/3 and three is pretty nice if you were headed toward Cleveland - though I would just get on 71 as soon as you start to get into the Mason sprawl crap.

I've always wanted to take US 52 and Route 7 from Cinci to East Liverpool along the river, then through Youngstown and up to Conneaut, but that would be a couple days worth of driving at least (almost 500 miles).
