Posted August 23, 200816 yr Thought I'd share some pictures I took this summer in the Vistula & Northriver area This is my first thread so go easy! This is being renovated into a bed & breakfast. The owner was nice enough to invite my fiance and I in for a tour. View from the top of the tower- This porch is insane. Yum Yum Hamburg! Thanks for looking!
August 23, 200816 yr Ah, the Springfield section of Toledo. Very nice job and photos. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
August 23, 200816 yr hey now...whattaya know? just like old times on this thread! again djc3e welcome. excellent job. and very timely too. we were just talking about how we dont get enough toledo on uo, much less those neighborhoods. not enough akron either for that matter. anyway excellent job, i hope to see more toledo nabes.
August 24, 200816 yr Lima-styled? You're kidding, right? Lima-styled? Toledo isn't a rowhouse city (like Springfield and Lima) and you find the one rowhouse that Toledo has and you're like "Where in Springfield can I get this???" You've GOT to be joking (or simply petty). Gee...southide Springfield doesn't look ANYTHING like Vistula...right? Remind me next time I go to Springfield to shoot some rowhouses just for you...oy. Regarding the "river" and "shipping activity," I don't see it in this thread (aside from a distance shot of the bridge) so again, irrelevant. It's really simple: 1). I see photos. 2). I think "hmmm, it looks like Springfield...or Grafton Hill...or Highland Square..." or whatever 3). I post "reminds me of Springfield." 4). I sit back and watch silly forumers try to change my opinion. Those are some great pictures of Lima, and I mean it, but Toledo is 10x more badass than that. I just posted some Vistula, there is more to come. The Old West End will blow this @%#! out of the water!!! Ok, I am from the South Carolina coast and I moved to Toledo about 5 years ago - I did not like it at first, but about two years ago I realized this place ain't so bad. There is some history here about the spread of the auto industry & shit.
August 24, 200816 yr djc3e, thank you! This is an excellent set and we just don't see enough of Toledo here. I have to say you seem to have done great job showing us the housng stock. Makes me want to back up to Toledo and explore the place some. I look forward to seeing more of Toledo from you.
August 24, 200816 yr Ok, I live in West Toledo by the University but Toledot really doesn't have that many rowhouses. Toledo's strength is it's bungalows - thing is, there aren't many in Vistula. I assure you, Toledo's amazing bungalows are sure to follow - stay tuned. I live in West Toledo and it is the best part doo.
August 24, 200816 yr I didn't mean to take away from this thread (well, CDawg did but whatever) and I appreciate your photos (and future photos). I just remarked that the photos you took remind me of Springfield (particularly the southside) in "grit" and look. August 24, 200816 yr ^ The hip roofs. You see that in Cols too, a bit, but not so much in Dayton (at least what survives) @@@ One thing about the Toledo pix, they seem to have what looks like two story doubles, but I wonder if they are some kind of four flat? That is kind of unusual.

I'd like to check out Springfield one day - had a roomate from there once & it looks interesting.
August 24, 200816 yr ^ yes it will, in both beauty and crack sales  That is true, although I belive the East side wins the crack sales competition - while driving through there a couple weeks ago I actually saw two gentlemen completing such a transaction on the sidewalk in broad daylight.
August 24, 200816 yr djc3e, Nice set of photos...I find it disturbing to see impressive historic buildings in a few of the photos all boarded up but I guess it's a sign of the times. The Queen Anne/Colonial Revival style home with the "insane" porch undoubtedly was originally open and probably featured an impresive balustrade with columns/posts around it. Enclosing the entire porch area in that manner is functional but also a little disingeneous. My only constructive comment regarding the photos is that they could have been enlarged a little more to "fit" the page, but otherwise they are quite nice. Thanks, and I hope you will post more in coming days...
August 25, 200816 yr Well done! I'm not going easy because you're a newcomer; I'm going easy because it's a great thread. Welcome aboard.
