February 20, 200916 yr Paying by the hour is the thing to do. As a Mom I want to know that if I give my son $10.00 That shoes and everything is included. I like the idea of paying by the hour, shoes included and even throwing in a piece of pizza and drink. I like to know what I am paying for before I pay for it. Paying by the hour and package deals are great. That poem is sweet, thanks for sharing. Sonic!! I spent half my years in Texas, now you are talking. Sonic is all over down there. Nothing like a Frito pie and Cherry Limeade. The only ones I know of are in Milford and Landen. The batting cages and indoor driving range, is a great idea too. My son plays select baseball and Miami Lakes is the closest and only place around. We were looking for a place to hold indoor practices and Soccer City and Rivers Edge are booked solid. We have so many more people to meet with and still trying to figure out what to do. Trying to locate an engineer to see what it would take to remove 30 lanes and build something else. I think we have talked to every bank in the city!! Banks are afraid to lend for entertainment type businesses since in a bad economy people cut back on entertainment. Thanks so much, we are really trying to figure it all out!!! Amy Hoinke

There used to be batting cages in Western Sports Mall that were replaced by a small-scale indoor soccer field about a decade ago. Western Sports Mall now has two indoor soccer fields and is located 5 minutes from your property.
February 21, 200916 yr One of the common themes of this thread is the dismay that the West Side has no formal gathering place, sense of place, or public square. The gathering place is whoever has the cornhole set and the beer, sense of place is Glenway, and the square is the bars of Cheviot.
April 22, 200916 yr Western Bowl won't close Glenway Ave. landmark set to remain open under new ownership By Tom Ramstetter • [email protected] • April 21, 2009 http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090421/SPT/304210037 The familiar sound of crashing pins will continue on Glenway Avenue where West Siders have been bowling for five decades. Western Bowl had been set to close May 1, but after a furious couple of months of negotiations, the landmark will remain open under new ownership. “Right now we have a deal in the works with a gentleman that is going to keep it open as a bowling center,” said Russ Hoinke, son of 76-year-old owner Erv Hoinke.
April 26, 200916 yr Landmark's time has come again Western Bowl alive to tell more stories http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090425/SPT/904260362/1055/NEWS It sits fairly centrally on the West Side of town. Not far from Westwood, close to Cheviot, a few miles from Delhi, down the street from Dent and just a short car ride from Covedale and Price Hill. It's where you went to see the big boys roll it at the Hoinke Classic and the Super Hoinke. Stars from out of town came to play for the big bucks along with the local heroes of the lanes.
April 29, 200916 yr It is still not a done deal. No contracts have been signed, the newspaper and media ran off with the story. Although in all are of our family discussions, it was agreed that we would settle for less money to keep it as a bowling center. If it does go through we will run the Hoinke Classic for the next 3 to 4 years. While being in negotiations does seem positive there is always a chance that the deal may not go through. Until all papers are signed is when it will be a done deal. We felt an obligation to keep it as a bowling center. So we will see and are keeping our fingers crossed. I hate to be negative but there is always a chance that it may fall through. I am amazed at the media once again. I will keep you all posted. One thing I do know is LA Fitness had money in hand and wanted the land really bad and we even thought of opening a smaller center on the same lot. We felt we owed something to the community by keeping it open. Maybe in the next few weeks I can get on and say it is in stone and a done deal. Amy Hoinke
July 17, 200915 yr New Owner Saves West Side Landmark Western Bowl To Remain Open, Home To Tournament http://www.wlwt.com/sports/20079775/detail.html CINCINNATI -- A landmark bowling alley on the city's west side will change hands Friday, but Western Bowl will remain open. Its fate was in doubt earlier this year, but Larry Schmitt, of Nashville, has added the bowling alley to his chain called Strike and Spare. "This center is known throughout bowling from coast to coast," said Schmitt, who owned Reds minor league teams so valued by former owner Marge Schott that she gave him a 1990 World Series ring. "If it's working already we don't throw it aside, we keep the things that's working and add to it."
