Posted August 2, 200519 yr Hmmm, I am not a fan of this new name. It will be called the "The Q." Cavs' home to become 'The Q,' as in Quicken Tuesday, August 02, 2005 Susan Vinella Plain Dealer Reporter Article Removed
August 2, 200519 yr Gilbert Arena or just plain "quicken arena" would have been better. Now my question is .... when is quicken going to relocate to Cleveland??? Come on mr. gilbert...throw one this way!!!! Things are on the "uptick" here....be a good corporate citizen  smooches
August 2, 200519 yr Don't you learn in fourth grade that you can't give yourself a nickname Remember when they were trying to give the left field wall at the Jake a nickname, "Mini green monster", "Jacob's Ladder" etc......it wound up being....the left field wall
August 2, 200519 yr Now my question is .... when is quicken going to relocate to Cleveland??? Come on mr. gilbert...throw one this way!!!! Things are on the "uptick" here....be a good corporate citizen  smooches yeah, because SE michigan's economy is just booming now......
August 2, 200519 yr Exactly right, punch. And of course, you all know what happens when you try to give yourself a nickname. So, what should the real nickname be?
August 3, 200519 yr see i wondered when this day would come, i bet 30 years from now we;re still gonna call it "the gund" and hell "the jake" as well also is there any news on Quicken locating here? i remember reading about some kind of hightech call center coming to town...
August 3, 200519 yr i used to respect cleveland for not having any corporate (well, corporate sounding) names on their stadia
August 3, 200519 yr ^Right Sucks that an out of towner comes in, buys a team, and then takes down a respected area family name, replaces it with a corporate name. Even worse, tries to brand it with a nickname even before the name is officially changed. getting off the soap / bitch box.....now
August 3, 200519 yr I say if you buy the team and pay the fee you can name it anything you want. That's the way it works!! I still reserve the right to hate it. Now if they do open a center in town with 300-500 new employees then we'll all be happy.
August 3, 200519 yr If the company was based in the city, part of the community, it is one thing. Kind of like Heinz field in Pittsburg. But Quicken loans, even if they open an office, has not much of anything to do with Cleveland.
August 3, 200519 yr If the company was based in the city, part of the community, it is one thing. Kind of like Heinz field in Pittsburg. But Quicken loans, even if they open an office, has not much of anything to do with Cleveland. If QL opens and office (or relocates) and employs people from metro Cleveland, how can you say it has "nothing" to do with Cleveland?? Or are you saying because its not a "home grown" brand, it doesn't rate as much credit or have a connection with Clevelanders? As far as the name is concerened, the Gunds sold. If it was my team and arena I'd slap my moniker all over that puppy in a tasteful way and come up with marketing tie-ins that could evolve with the the brand in and on the building.
August 3, 200519 yr I like the look of the Gund Arena sign. I want to see how they are going to manage to make a Quicken Loans sign look classy.
August 4, 200519 yr You've got to be shitting me. I thought this was an April Fools Joke of some sort. What is next? "Cash N' Checks Stadium?" Jesus. I thought Minute Maid Field was bad... August 4, 200519 yr just wait, the dayton dragons will soon be playing in the Crystal Gasoline Palace

August 4, 200519 yr FYI, gund bought the naming rights in 1994 for 14 million over 20 years This from the PD Article Wimwar posted. "Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cavaliers, also owns Michigan-based Quicken Loans. Naming rights were part of his $375 million deal with former team owner Gordon Gund."
August 5, 200519 yr Looks like the design review board is doing its job. Arena's new logo quickly gets quashed Friday, August 05, 2005 Susan Vinella Plain Dealer Reporter Article Removed
August 5, 200519 yr "Representatives for the Cavaliers argued that incorporating a company logo on a building is different from designing a store sign." No sh!t, Sherlock - do they have f#cking clue who the members of the Design Review Board are? Most are practicing designers/architects who have been in the business for years. It doesn't help matters that Quicken still uses a "swoosh" in their logo - how '97 can you get? clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
August 5, 200519 yr I would love to see what they proposed. A unanimous no vote has to be just god-awful. It has to be funny
August 5, 200519 yr Punch, You're out of state, right? The design is in the print edition. It is yellow and red with some black. Its bad. I wonder how other cities have reacted to name changes. Candlestick Park to Tricomm (is that the name?). That was a horrible change.
August 5, 200519 yr Cavaliers President Len Komoroski said through a spokesman that the team tested the design - which incorporates Quicken's block red and white logo - with the public and many liked it. Who did they ask? :drunk:  :whip:
August 5, 200519 yr http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/wide/index.ssf?/sports/wide/qlogo.html here is the logo. its too large to post and i don't have the time to change it.
August 5, 200519 yr Just saw it, it is god-awful...I repeat you can not give yourself a nickname! (unless it is a screen name on a urban issues forum)

August 5, 200519 yr if that is a round about way of asking for help.....I would love to but I will make sure I am out of town...or something Where abouts does she live, I am right behind the beer depot near Williams and 4th. (Thanks Ewoops!) (j/k if you need help....)

August 5, 200519 yr kudos to the city in standing up and saying the logo is hideous. They need to make sure we don't destroy what's left of the Gund's character with a tacky logo like that.
August 5, 200519 yr umm as someone whos designed logos before for companies... that thing is AWFUL. theres no balance to it and the colors...??? no way. how tacky
August 5, 200519 yr Thank god they didn't approve that. Very tacky. It doesn't go with the high tech, cool look of the Gund. What they really need is a big revolving "Q" on the roof. Actually, I think it would be awesome community relations if they had a public competition to design the logo. They could still select/refine the one they like best.
August 6, 200519 yr They mentioned that there would be a second hearing on Friday. What for? Any word on its outcome?
August 6, 200519 yr City rejects logo design for renamed Gund Arena POSTED: Saturday, August 06, 2005 11:23:43 AM UPDATED: Saturday, August 06, 2005 1:15:56 PM CLEVELAND -- The proposed logo for Quicken Loans Arena wasn’t a slam dunk with Cleveland’s planning commission today. Article Removed
September 4, 200519 yr Updating the story...from the 9/2/05 PD: Sign design still gets a bad review Friday, September 02, 2005 Tom Breckenridge Plain Dealer Reporter "The Q" sign still gets an F, the city's design advisers say. http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/cuyahoga/1125653686212970.xml&coll=2 From the 9/3/05 PD: Cavs win conditional OK for sign on 'The Q' Saturday, September 03, 2005 The Cleveland Planning Commission on Friday granted approval to the Cavaliers to put up new signs on the team's arena, as long as some changes are made. http://www.cleveland.com/business/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/business/112574014840950.xml&coll=2
September 5, 200519 yr why cant it just be that big golden "Q" for the one in "Quicken" and then have "Loans Arena" next to it. somehow incorporate the "swoosh" thing into the bottom of the Q. i mean who puts words under and outside of a "swoosh" and some inside of it? that just looks terrible. i would even say invert the "quicken" colors so the text is red and not worry about the border around it
September 8, 200519 yr The end is here. From Thursday Sept 8, 2005: On another note, does anyone know what they are doing with the space where the old large video displays were? hopefully upgrading... <img src="http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/urbanlife/IMG_1214.jpg" alt=""> <img src="http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/urbanlife/IMG_1213.jpg" alt=""> <img src="http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/urbanlife/IMG_1212.jpg" alt=""> <img src="http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/urbanlife/IMG_1220.jpg" alt=""> What happened to the display?? <img src="http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/urbanlife/IMG_1215.jpg" alt="">
