  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

Disagree - The NBA is fickle. I agree with you, we're still young and likely have better years ahead of us... but waiting for your core to develop isn't always the best strategy (see Memphis 2012-2015 and Portland 2015-2019). Every once in a while, the core will become the Warriors, but that's an exception to the rule.

The Cavs are good enough to win the East now, if they get another PG. This team plays incredible all around basketball, and that will make them REALLY tough in a 7 game series. There's a reason why James Harden can't win in the playoffs with great talent, but Milwaukee, GS, and AZ can

How is the NBA fickle? I think more than any other sport talent clearly dominates. I guess you could say player movement frequently changes the landscape, but the Cavs have all of their main pieces under team control for 3+ seasons. The Cavs are good, but they’re not their best version yet. Trying to find a vet PG would have ramifications on the roster and salary cap that could sabotage future growth. This isn’t football where you can just drop a bad contract.

Also, Harden has won 13 playoff series and took the Rockets to 2 conference finals including pushing the 2018 Warriors (perhaps the greatest team in NBA history) to 7 games.

^ well, the pacers are not a good team, but memphis is, so we will see tonight if they can beat a good playoff worthy team.

rubio has been so unbelievably outstanding all around his loss will be hard to cover --

i dk if rondo is the answer, but he will probably play a little tonight, so maybe we can get a feel for him.

woah -- the cavs knocked out utah and high flying donovan mitchell last night. looks like  they were just too big for the shorthanded jazz. next up on the road is dallas and oklahoma. then home for a day's rest and hosting the nets sunday night. that will be the tough test and the best upcoming game to watch. hopefully okoro's elbow is on the mend.

One correction--the Cavs host the Nets at 3 pm on Monday.   From the marketing blitz I've been seeing, I gather there are still lots of seats available!

Rajon Rondo: ‘I still want to compete at a high level’

The 35-year-old point guard is playing more and growing into a mentor following the trade from the Lakers to Cavaliers

By Marc J. Spears @MarcJSpears

January 12, 2022

Cleveland Cavaliers youngsters Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, Brandon Goodwin, RJ Nembhard Jr. and Lamar Stevens were gathered at El Gaucho Steakhouse following last Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Their 35-year-old new teammate, Rajon Rondo, footed the bill while offering words of wisdom and giving them an opportunity to know him better.

And just like that, the CAVS are back to the 4th send and two games back

A signature win for the Cavs!
This team is the feel good story of the year in the NBA. They’ve faced a lot of adversity and yet, the Cavs somehow have as many wins as any team in the Eastern conference. Who woulda thought?

So many storylines - one is the resurgence of Kevin Love - great to see him enjoying his time in Cleveland again.  It’s impossible not to feel proud of this team at this point in their journey.

Also, what a year to host the NBA All star game!  Go Cavs & Go Cleveland!

^ highlights for days on that one.

and the way they spread around the scoring is just amazing teamwork.

next the cavs go play the derozan and the bulls tomorrow, another good team test.

i wonder how rondo and his i think hammy are doing?

aww man. coach of my fav sports team ever, the miracle of richfield cavs. rip bill fitch.

Fitch coached for 25 seasons in the NBA, starting with the expansion Cleveland Cavaliers in 1970. He was Larry Bird’s first pro coach with Boston in 1979, won a title with the Celtics in 1981 and spent time with Houston, New Jersey and the Los Angeles Clippers.

While he had his greatest success in Boston, Fitch may be best remembered for his early seasons with the Cavs.

He helped develop a young team that won just 15 games in its first season before making the playoffs in 1976 and shocking the Washington Bullets in what became known as the “Miracle of Richfield.”

Fitch was chosen coach of the year that season.

Great game tonight, too! Came back from 20 points down, including scoring the first 19 points of the 4th period, to win 98-84 over the Pacers that gave us LeVert.

Great Deal for the Cavs. I hate to see Rubio go. I know that he was on an expiring contract and we don't know if he

would have wanted to extend here ( for less money to be a back-up. Now we will never know.

on the positive side, by all account caris levert is a great fit for the cavs.

Cool.  So the deal is a win-win.

Highlight of the game last night from K Love

i saw this with caris levert and it was eye opening -- i wonder how his health is with that?

Upon being traded by the Nets to the Pacers last year, doctors found a mass on his kidney that turned out to be renal cell carcinoma. LeVert later said the trade may have saved his life.

fun caris levert trivia -- you know the columbus/pickerington ohio connection and you might have noticed the last name -- and yes caris his related to levert -- he is third cousins with eddie levert.

This Time, the Cavaliers’ Revival Has Nothing to Do With LeBron James

Two All-Stars, a surprising rookie and savvy trades have Cleveland among the best teams in the Eastern Conference. “Everybody is doing something,” one veteran said.

By Sopan Deb

Feb. 15, 2022

For most of the last two decades, the Cleveland Cavaliers could be defined by two things: LeBron James or irrelevance.

James, a hometown hero, breathed new life into the city upon being drafted in 2003, and made the Cavaliers a must-see attraction. And then he devastated the fan base by leaving for Miami in 2010, before returning like Odysseus in 2014 and delivering one of the most storied championships in N.B.A. history in 2016. Two years later, he left again, leaving the franchise without a clear path forward.

“Everybody felt a little bit weird after that year,” said Cedi Osman, a fifth-year guard for Cleveland.

The Cavaliers were starting from scratch and staring into the abyss. They had past-their-prime veterans and no track record of luring top free agents. But a funny thing has happened. Fast forward through some quality draft picks, a savvy trade and a key player’s unexpected resurgence, and there is a basketball renaissance in Cleveland.

The Cavaliers have turned the corner and will be playing meaningful games after the end of the season.  And they have done it without the player who left twice and is now in Los Angeles.  More importantly, it took years to dig out from the mess of the roster that remained after James departed and the rebuild is basically complete.  As for the Lakers, three players take up about 90% of the salary cap.  They have no draft capital they could have parlayed into getting help.  Concerning the highly paid players, Westbrook has been a major disappointment while Davis has been disappointing and has missed significant playing time.  Father Time is starting to catch up to James, the "architect" of the roster.  Last year, the Lakers were in the play-in tournament and as things stand right now, they will be a part of it again.

Another rough break for the Cavs after a pretty ugly 2-6 skid over the last 8 games, too:

Cleveland Cavaliers' Jarrett Allen out indefinitely with fractured finger

CLEVELAND -- Cavaliers All-Star center Jarrett Allen will be sidelined indefinitely after breaking his left middle finger in Sunday's win over the Toronto Raptors.

Not looking good for the home stretch, though they've had some injury-plagued periods earlier this season and managed to muddle through.

Our sports team never seem to get a break - unless it's a broken bone.

How bout those Cavs!

Went to the game last night. Yet again they played down to the Pistons, but thankfully woke up in time to seal the win. They’ve definitely got the city energized, the atmosphere in the arena as they came from behind in the 4th was fantastic.

I went to the game on Friday against Denver, which played out very similarly (though against much better competition).  The atmosphere in the 4th and OT was very impressive.  I hadn’t been to a game since pre-pandemic and had no idea what to expect, but it was outstanding.

Pistons have played us hard all year and have been playing solid ball since the ASB, if they land another top pick they could be dangerous next year.
The crowd energy has been awesome though and luckily we still have another half dozen home games to go

skulled by the lebroners.

ugh.

we need allen back and full powers asap.

rondo too.

and now wade is out with a knee injury of the type that could easily be worse than they think and lead to season ending surgery:

1 day agoWade (knee) has been diagnosed with a partially torn right meniscus and will miss several weeks, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

LeBron just refuses to lose to us and it seemed like our young guys were way too tentative on defense against him. That plus Augustin going an insane 6/6 on 3s and Westbrook remembering how to play doomed us.

Hopefully this is the kick in the teeth that spurs the team to lock in against the Raptors and Bulls, both of which are huge and necessary games to win.

The young Cavs are still developing.  Gotta be patient.  It will be nice for them to get some playoff experience this season, but I don't see them going too far. All of these injuries are disturbing.

29 minutes ago, LibertyBlvd said:

What is disturbing about them? They suck, but sh*t happens. Lakers and Clippers have had more games missed than us this year, to name but two teams.

JB's short rotations early in the season are a cause of concern and Rubio playing so much against the Pels likely led to his season ending injury, but a lot of the others like Sexton's knee, Lauri's ankle, and Garland's back were freak accidents

Sent from my Pixel 5a using Tapatalk

let's look on the bright side, it has been worse with the cavs injury bugs in the past:

brad daugherty got a huge contact, then hurt his back. big z had fra-gee-lay feet. varajao got hurt being his wildman self. and of course there is the coup de gracey with my fav cle sports team of all time the miracle of richfield's jim chones breaking his foot in a non-basketball injury that ended the cavs miracle playoffs run.

anyway, hopefully the cavs are in better shape by the playoffs.

Love this team and love the future with it - but the Allen injury may have been too much to overcome - we’re 6-10 since the all-star break and in the play-in tournament right now.

If we get Jarrett back for the playoffs, we can still be a very tough out but Philly, Boston, Milwaukee and a healthy Nets team  are all a cut above right now.

Welp … this Wednesday night is Slovenian Heritage Night… about as Cleveland as you can get..! 😁

I received this from the Cavs ticket sales department today and found it helpful in deciphering the upcoming week:

Thank you for following along with the Cavs all season. In case you didn’t know, we have a HUGE game tonight against the Brooklyn Nets to decide if we get into the playoffs or not. Here are the possible outcomes of tonight’s game:

·         If we win tonight, we will be the 7th seed and face the Boston Celtics in a best-of-7 series.

·         If we lose tonight, we will have another chance to get in as the 8th seed on Friday. We would play the winner of Atlanta and Charlotte at home on Friday.

·         If we win the second game on Friday after losing tonight, then we will advance to the playoffs as the 8th seed to take on the Miami Heat.

·         If we lose the second game on Friday after losing tonight, then we will be eliminated completely from the postseason.

Needless to say that tonight is the biggest game of the year, and I don’t want you to miss out on the chance to cheer the Wine and Gold on from home. Here are the details about tonight’s broadcast:

·         Game starts at 7 PM

·         TNT will be broadcasting the game starting with pregame coverage at 6:30.

·         Cavs social media will be providing updates throughout the game via Instagram, twitter, and snapchat.

Get some good food, good people, and good energy ready to watch our team put on a show tonight! It’s time to shock the world again. Cheers to a Cavs W!!

I won't feel too bad if the Cavs miss the playoffs...they had a brilliant season until Ricky Rubio went down. Super fun and the future is bright!

That being said it would be really cool if they could find a way to beat up Brooklyn tonight.

ugh the subway shooter nutcase today was nearby the nets training facility:

i was in bayridge this morning hanging around before an appointment and it was talk of the neighborhood by neighbors passing on the street, schools there were on lockdown & kids sent home, shops closed early, etc. - crazy & sad.
