  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

I'd say it's unlikely, but who knows...it could be a reason the team isn't exactly in a hurry to lock in either Sexton or LeVert.

It’s a good idea to keep their powder dry regardless. They are well stocked at SG (although nobody is really above average), no need to eat up too much cap space with Levert or Sexton. They also want to avoid going into the luxury tax, or at least starting the clock on the repeater penalties. Consecutive years above the cap has a multiplier effect. For instance, I believe Golden State will now pay $7 for every $1 over the luxury tax.

I'm not up on my basketball payroll minutia, but would it be legal/feasible for Lebron to take some kind of deferred compensation plan towards minority ownership, not unlike the Bobby Bonilla deal?

That would not be allowed in the NBA.  The max contract length is 4 years, and the NBA has handed out big penalties for circumventing the salary cap.  If they don’t put anything into writing (and have it discovered), it does seem like it would be hard to prevent the Cavs from telling LeBron he can get a good deal on minority ownership after he retires.

The Cavs have acquired Donovan Mitchell.

Very Stable Genius

Goodbye Collin Sexton, hello NBA title #2.

P.S., Woj likes it....

Gonna miss Lauri though he brought more of that young excitement to the games

Darn. I did not want to mess with the remarkable chemistry this team had & was really hoping Sexton could jump in and contribute his points off the bench. Plus Lauri has been looking great during the international games.

I don't really know anything about Mitchell. Hope it's a good trade for both teams but man, the Cleveland Cavaliers hold my last shred of optimism for pro sports.

Mitchell is a great player but I worry about the opportunity cost of using all of your ammo on another small guard. They need a wing so desperately and now they don’t really have a path to acquiring one.

Barring injury - the Cavs are title contenders through 2025.

Cmon cavs you gotta trade my 2 fav players...now you need a wing again

3 first round draft picks?  Sounds eerily familiar.

Could be worse. Could be the Knicks....

Yeah, I liked him. I don't know much about Mitchell. Is he that good?  Seems like the Cavs gave up a lot to get him.

obviously they want to make a run at it, but the cavs gave up way too much here.

mostly because this could backfire abruptly with an injury — and mitchell was hampered by an ankle injury last season.

i also see he had his jaw and wrist broken in a collision when he was younger, but other than that and the recent ankle trouble he seems to be in good health.

^Agreed, risky

And it looks like the Warriors have reconstituted themselves, so it may be difficult for anyone to get past them for the next several years.

I’ve come around on the trade big time. We now have 2 top-ten-ish pick and roll initiators and 2 top pick and roll finishers. And as long as we have Allen and Mobley our defense is going to be fine. Our offense is going to be dynamic and relentless in a way it just wasn’t last year. I also think, as Clevelanders, we’re hard wired to overvalue draft picks. God willing, those draft picks will all be in the 20s. A real contending team has almost no use for picks that late, and we are a real contender now (I think). As far as injuries go, they’re always a risk. But you can’t operate an NBA team worrying about random injuries. The rosters are small and injuries are just a part of NBA life.

I think that the fact the unprotected picks are staggered helps a bit. Yeah, Utah being able to swap the in between years kinda sucks, but it’s not the end of the world.

i don't blame him he's on an exciting team -- but its still nice to hear this!

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley to miss 1-2 weeks with ankle sprain

7:05 PM ET

Associated Press

CLEVELAND -- Cavaliers starting forward Evan Mobley will miss time with a sprained right ankle suffered during practice, an injury that could sideline him for the start of the regular season in two weeks.

Mobley injured the ankle during a workout on Saturday. The team said Monday that an MRI confirmed the injury and that the 7-footer will be out "approximately 1-2 weeks.''

Jabbar didn't have bad feet.  Maybe it's a matter of conditioning.

He didn't but most do, including Z if I remember right.

True, Big Z was 7'3" and was even relatively healthy for his height. Only a couple other bigs 7'3" in history have been able to carve out a career at all without it being ruined by health. Tons of 7-footers have long, productive careers though, and Mobley is pretty athletic, so I'm not too worried.

Mobley is listed as 6' 11"

nice at the cavs-wizards game:

Guardians manager Terry Francona sat courtside and got a huge ovation when he was shown on the scoreboard during a timeout.

Thrilling overtime win tonight for the Cavs - on national TV - 2nd win against the Eastern Conference Champs in a week.

On the telecast, Jeff Van Gundy said, “I’d love to watch these two teams play each other every night”.  Good times and a very promising start for the Cavaliers.  If we can stay healthy - could be a sensational season.

Oh and, by the way, some nice downtown shots, including one looking up Euclid Avenue towards a fully lit Terminal Tower - and even some cars and pedestrians on the Avenue  - sweet!

Eight straight wins! And it's the first time the Cavs have beaten the LeBron-led Lakers.

Seeing the team never losing their composure after being down is a really great thing to see this year.

Annnd I know it's nowhere near reality, but seeing that game last night and just imagining LBJ back wearing wine and gold with THIS lineup - absolutely unbeatable.

I want to know what the hell JB tells these guys at halftime. They always make the right adjustments and come out firing in the second half - a pleasant change from CAVS teams of old.

I think maybe last year it was primarily due to injuries and having to rely too heavily on Garland...that and the team being  just so young. They've grown up quickly!

WTF? 3 losses in a row with the last to the Dubs?? Ugh

nobody likes to lose to the warriors, especially the cavs lol.

the shots map by qtr is interesting. the cavs make most of their shots all around in the paint. the warriors were almost all right under the bucket or of course steph’s 3s.

i think the young cavs can learn something from that. there isnt much anybody can do about those curry bombs, but they certainly can fix whatever breakdown on d is happening right under the basket. they have the talent and muscle for making teams work harder right up front than that.

I guess we all got a little delirious due to their hot start. Cavs are still a young team and have a lot to learn. Hopefully Rubio will be back in December. He will definitely help.

The beat goes on...

Cavs struggling vs the lowly Hornets.  Wtf. They did manage to win it in double OT.

Edited by LibertyBlvd

I watched them blow another 10-point lead with a couple minutes to go and changed the channel. If the Cavs have this much trouble beating the Hornets, I don't see how they're going to be able to compete in the East.

cavs beat shorthanded dallas in ot — this is why jarrett allen is crucial to any cavs success:

Allen outjumped two defenders to grab a lob from Darius Garland, then slammed home the ball over Christian Wood for the final points in the five-minute session.

Last night was a weird game. The team chemistry has not looked too good lately.

Oh yeah haha. I got to see him in Coney Island around 2008 when he was just coming on when the corrupt Nathans/Competitive Food Council banned the great Kobiashi from participating. Worse than FIFA those scoundrels!!!!

Historic performance
