  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

Anderson Varejão rejoins Cavaliers in player development role

Associated Press

CLEVELAND -- Anderson Varejão has bounced back to the Cavaliers.

One of the most popular players in Cleveland's history, Varejão has been hired as a player development consultant and global ambassador for the team that he played with for 14 NBA seasons.

Known for his hustle and frizzy hair, Varejão, affectionately nicknamed "Wild Thing" for his rambunctious playing style, was with the Cavaliers from 2004 to 2015. He spent two seasons with the Golden State Warriors before the center returned to Cleveland after a three-year break from the NBA. He retired after playing five games in the 2020-21 season.

"I am thrilled and honored once again to be a formal part of the Cavaliers family," Varejão said. "This is a unique opportunity to start a new chapter of my life with the team I love and in the city I love."

The latest is Bronny has narrowed his choices to USC, Oregon, and Ohio State.

Who (else)) thinks that LeBron stays with the Lakers or signs with the Blazers or Cavaliers once he decides?

One year deal, he has already said he will sign with whoever drafts Bronny.

LeBron signed an extension with the Lakers, so he's not a free agent after this season.

a horrible and embarrassing sleepwalking loss at home to the dubs, who sat all their starters. pathetic.

mitchell’s lingering leg issue is troublesome. also i see rubio is being held out of games for acl management.

Also, the Warriors had played in Boston the night before in a game that went to OT. The loss was inexcusable. This Cavs team seems to be lacking endurance and intestinal fortitude. They faded in the second half of the season last year. We were told it was due to injuries and inexperience. But it seems to be happening again this year.

Cavs are relying on one player again, just the LeBron era.

The wife and I saw they were in town and on a whim decided to grab a couple tickets on Seat Geek.   What a mistake.

While it was great to have a night out at the RMFH, we had to endure the GS bench owning the Cavs, and an arena full of bandwagon Dubs fans cheering them on.

welp i thought about it, but glad i didnt waste a hundred bux on a ticket at msg. ugh.

Very weird game. Randle was -10 in his minutes despite putting up 36. Knicks went 17/33 from 3. Cavs are 27th in the league in 3 point defense. But the bench has been the real issue lately. Kevin Love is almost certainly washed, and Levert can’t seem to operate outside of the starting lineup.

That's unfortunate.  Ricky was such a catalyst for this team last year until he got hurt.  Hopefully he can regain some of that form in the 2nd half of the season.

not real happy with okoro and mobley lately either.

Disagree there. They can be underwhelming on offense (although improving lately) but by some metrics those are two of the top 15-ish defenders in the league. They’re most of the reason the Cavs have maintained an elite defensive rating despite offensive struggles.

meh, yeah that's about right they are middle of the road d at best, but i mostly meant shooting.

Cavs are just not the same team as last year. They just look out of it.

The Mitchell injury put a damper on things. And January was a brutal month for them, schedule-wise. Lets see how they look post-All Star break.

Love is definitely washed up, though. Its tough watching him move around lol.

Love washed up?  He looked pretty good last year.  Maybe that thumb is still bothering him.

It is for sure, but his defense is nonexistent. He provided genuine scoring punch off the bench last year.

Middle of the road defense???? Cavs are ranked second in the league and Mobley and Okoro are their best defenders by a pretty clear margin.

Sorry, I was saying Mobley and Okoro are rated top 15 as players. Cavs are rated 2nd in team defense. Their defense has been consistent, they have just struggled to score lately.

i know what you meant - those two need to pick it up, they are part of that slump. mid level d players and poor o isnt cutting it. unless disaster strikes giannis & the bucks arent going away.

They’re not mid level? They are 2 of the 15 best defensive players in the league! There are 360 active roster spots in the NBA. Top 15 is 95th percentile

not of the starters and i would think not currently. for one thing, i read cavs are at or near the bottom for opponent threes. thats obvious — gs bench torched them w/o steph, but otherwise i dk what is going on there. and anyway those two are starters, not the hansen brothers, so we need all around production for top tier talk.

not to mention, what else hurts is the cavs dont have a bench. i hope love’s finger is bugging him and he’s not in one of his sleepwalking funks he falls into. caris disappoints and disappears. osman, wade, stevens? please. if we get ten or so hardcore era rubio minutes every other game from here out and he remembers he can score that would help.

what i see is the cavs are settling down with .500 in reach and that we have to face that the league has figured them out.

they’ll make the playoffs, but quick exit. i’ll eat my new cavs throwback tee shirt if they win the first playoff series.

i was pleased my staten island pizza pub had the tnt cavs game on last night so we watched the first half.

it was a rough back and forth half, but the cavs displayed an obvious supreme optimisim, smiling, oh well shrugging if they missed, and playing hard but not even breaking a sweat until near halftime. i dk, but you could tell they knew they had this game.

rubio missed like 5 early shots, but when i was home i followed the 4th on espn and they put him back in and he was popping threes, which made me laugh.

fellas beware the pizza place has a hi def tv screen and my spouse was like ooh you didnt tell me the cavs were so handsome. yep they are honey, ok lol.

hey kyrie has requested a trade from the nets. yes! any takers?? lol

I think enough of these points were scored for Cleveland to post this in the Cavs thread. Check out this visualization of all of LeBron’s NBA record points scored:

Of course, this is still the best LeBron video:

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

Man time passes quickly. Hard to believe Bron has been a Laker longer than his second stint here in Cleveland.

He sure has a lot of miles on him.  Starting in NBA right out of high school and going deep into the playoffs almost every year.

Nice lil Lebron tribute after the game

is kevin love ever gonna take the court for the cavs again? sheesh.

cavs not really out front piicked to win against a .500 tream:

well, at least they won last night.

i more concerned the guardians got skulled and are off to an 0-2 start.

err, in other words ... not very concerned about anything in february, other than health of the teams of course.

we are blessed to have great, if not thee very best, coaches for the cavs and guards (otoh, stefanski is lucky to have a job).

ahahahahaha — i can’t love this any more:

How Donovan Mitchell could ruin the Knicks' season for Stephen A.

Stephen A. Smith says he's going to need some time off from work if Donovan Mitchell sends the Knicks home in the playoffs.

This one was wacky fun, though there was no way this should have gone to overtime with Williams getting two free throws with less than a second to go and somehow missing them both (and the Celtics then having a chance for a tip-in even after that second miss).

Also, it's been a while since I've checked the standings but wow, the Eastern Conference is just brutal this year.  Cleveland's 41 wins and 0.612 percentage would be #2 in the West, but it's #4 in the East with the white-hot New York Knicks chasing hard on our heels.

Yes, it certainly was wacky. The Celtics were hitting 3 pointers like crazy in the first half while the Cavs looked out of sync - missed shots, bad passes - almost as if they had played a double OT game the night before.  But apparently Joe Thomas got them fired up in the 4th quarter for an unbelievable finish.

Mobley seems to think he's a point guard and when he takes the ball up the court, he generally gets striped.  Also, he really needs to stop shooting threes at crucial points of the game.
