i understand the cavs are going for the best available and applaud that, but its very concerning both these guys are serious d liabilities.

also, on my nba forum muh philly fans laid into niang for me lol:  😂

In Philly..While Niang is a tough dude who works hard, because of his lack of athletic ability on defense, his primary value is shooting 3s. His overall percentage looks great, but he was a very streaky shooter who sometimes disappeared in the playoffs.

Cav fans will love his attitude, he gets the very most out of his talent. When hot he would chuck and hit without reservation.

“ sometimes disappeared in the playoffs “ ?

Oh my fellow Sixers , beer friend you are being too kind .

Good bench guy for regular season who is sturdy and can put up some points from deep .

Totally unplayable , worthless during playoffs , as things tighten up on both ends due to as you mentioned, lack of athletic ability .

1. Cant guard ANYONE as the playoff intensity ratchets up
2. Can’t get his shots off as the playoff defensive intensity ratchets up

But , if I were the Sixers , I would have tried to keep him .
Sixers are a regular season team . He fits right in .

Other than that .
Have a cold one .

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

Great to see them beef up their outside shooting, the lack of which killed them in their "appearance" in the playoffs. Question is, can JB mix them and get the chemistry right.

Stus is a decent defender but is a bit undersized if the Cavs play him at small forward.

Cavs also signed Ty Jerome which could be a lowkey nice pickup as a backup point guard.

whoops i am confusing these guys. we will get to know them better soon lol. stus may be best of the bunch.

the cavs defintely went for best talent available, which is fair, but i am seeing streaky shooters and no d to speak of in these pickups. i guess we will find out.

Cavaliers reach one-year deal with center Tristan Thompson

ESPN News Services

Sep 11, 2023

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached agreement on a one-year contract to reunite with center Tristan Thompson, his agent Rich Paul confirmed to The Associated Press on Monday night.

Thompson won an NBA title with the Cavs in 2016. The 32-year-old spent nine seasons with Cleveland, appearing in four straight Finals on teams led by LeBron James. He and James played together late last season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Thompson, who was drafted by the Cavs with the No. 4 overall pick in 2011, will give Cleveland some frontcourt depth, toughness and a player with plenty of postseason experience. He's appeared in 94 playoff games.

The 6-foot-9 Thompson has averaged 9.0 points and 8.4 rebounds in 730 career games.

Well, the Cavs are definitely in need of some toughness.  And someone with postseason experience.

I will never understand how much people care about uniforms. That said, stop trying to make the Land happen. It's not going to happen.

The Land is silly!  Cleveland trying too hard to be cool.

Once you realize it's just a marketing ploy to sell more swag, it all makes sense.   The NBA is definitely leading the way in staying cool with the youth culture.

Yeah yeah, it's a reference to a line in a Bone Thugs song, whatever. It's just so close to the actual name of the city, it sounds stupid. Like if the nickname for El Paso was the Paso.

The land came from a Bone Thugs song (thought so, confirmed above).   C-town came from Jim Rome, who was super popular in this area around the turn of the millennium.

More likely "The Pass".  I believe that's actually been used.

Most nicknames sound "stupid" in objective terms.

i think the Land is not as bad as people are making it out.  Professional athletes and Pop culture folks have adopted in and openly refer to Cleveland as the Land.  Just because some random people dont like it doesnt mean it doesnt play.  From a marketing perspective, if people that are celebrities are using it...thats a heck of alot more powerful than you or I's opinion of it.

On another note, the Cavs season begins tonight.  I think the past two seasons they fell one step short of where i thought they should be (and probably should have been).  Two years ago, you would like to see them get out of the play-in round and into a 7 game series.  They fell short by losing a home game they blew.  Last year, they got out toughed by a KNicks team with inferior talent.  You wanted to get to the Eastern Semis last year and that wouldve been on track.  So this year, i think you need to get back on track and be shooting for the ECF...and they can.  They have an all NBA candidate in scorer, plenty of shooting, and good interior defense.  Mark my words, whether they make the ECF or not will 100% depend (assuming no injuries) on Evan Mobleys ability to take the next step.  This is year 3...he needs to be a dominant force at this point.  I think many are thinking Tim Duncan potential with Evan and if that is going to come to fruition, needs to see a big leap this year.  If they get that big leap, they can make the ECF.

Agree with all of that.  And if we could get Garland and Mitchell to play well on the court simultaneously, that would be great.  It's either Mitchell's game, or the Garland's game.  Never both.  But so excited to see basketball season back 😃!  Side note, Emoni Bates is 6'8", 170lbs.  How is that even possible 😄?

Emoni's still only 19, that's how.

Being local, I've gotten to watch quite a bit of Emoni, including his 43 pt performance against Toledo last season in person. He's got a complete different mindset than he had 2-3 years ago.  He's finally buying into a system, which was a big reason for him not having a ton of success in college. He was called uncoachable. The kid can play! Give him Dean Wade's spot

@E Rocc@math Unless Jim Rome mentioned “C-Town” before ‘92, I’d say that’s incorrect. Bone were not the first rappers from Cleveland, but they were definitely the most well known. MC Brains (I want to say he was from Glenville as well) mentioned “C-Town” in his album in ‘92 while Bone was still an underground group. I wouldn’t discount Hip-Hop culture (including Bone or any of the other local groups back then) as being reflective of local slang, especially in the early to mid 90s. Hip-Hop (and slang) was extremely regionalized, which was part of the reason Bone sounded so unique when they came out. Now, every rapper sounds like Bone.

The NBA has been commercializing off of Hip-Hop for a while now. I don’t think anyone would argue against that. “The Land”, again, goes back 30 years. It would either be “The Land”, or “C-Town” on the Cavs jerseys and at this point (probably because of MGK in part, again, Hip-Hop), the Cavs chose The Land.

And don’t tell me I’m the only person who heard “The Land” outside of a rap album being played in the 90s here… or at least I would hope 😄. Bone definitely made the use of “C-Town” and “The Land” more known- but then again, that’s another topic.

The Most Valuable NBA Teams 2023

Less than four years ago, the entry price for an NBA expansion team was $2.5 billion. Once the league signs off on its next round of central media rights deals, that number will balloon to $4 billion to $5 billion.

Today, the average NBA team is worth $3.85 billion, an increase of 35% from a year ago and 75% higher than in 2019. And with the league set to rake in some $13 billion this season (before debt payments and revenue sharing), 11% more than last season, valuations are still heading skyward.

Yeah I've watched bits of the last two games, and they just seem so un inspired, at least in the 4th quarter.

I'm also disappointed that Mobley hasn't added any body mass (though his stats thus far are great)

I caught some of the game last night and saw Mobley was just muscled around quite a bit by Indy's defense. Scary to think what his stats would be if he were stronger.

Anyone saying the Cavs should trade Allen can now see how we look without him, and they need to shut up.

Cavs still not guarding 3p line.

Strus looking like an upgrade to Cedi.

Niang looking not so good...yet.

Caris and Okoro are bringing it.

I cannot help but statwatch Lauri and Sexton all season. It's forever intriguing to think about "what if" that trade never happened.

Some prospective.

Game 2: No Allen, Garland

Game 3: No Allen, Garland, Mitchell

Let's wait until we have our main players available before we do any evaluation.

Colin sexton over Donovan Mitchell?  Come on now. Sexton barely hitting 10 ppg.  Mobley muscled around by indy defense yet still scores 33 and 14 boards.

W out a healthy allen to help.

Lauri AND Sexton.

I do think Sexton was too small to play significant minutes alongside Garland. He's a good scorer off the bench when you really need the points.
