  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm good if they lose now.  They have the second best start ever.   I feel like that Golden State record start ended up coming back to haunt them, ending with the Cavs coming from behind to steal the championship from them!

I'm not worried about that at all. It's not like the Warriors fell apart in the first round of the playoffs. They lost in game 7 of the finals after setting the record for wins that season.

Cavs are going to be shorthanded vs. Celtics

after the streak ended cavs got right back on the winning track vs the pelicans. garland sat out, but the bench picked it up. ty jerome lead scoring. and who the heck is jt thor? he wielded mjolnir well: 4-4 fg, 2-2 3s & 2 rb in just 13 min. — more of that kind of thing plz.

The Value of a cheap contract. Ty Jerome will be a free agent at the end of the year and and cavs can only offer him so much.https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/cavaliers-could-lose-unlikely-savior-ty-jerome/ar-AA1uvXUL?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=3c254cac67f44c829f2f281ccdb2e3b1&ei=19

Ty is giving me Ricky Rubio vibes. Not that they're so similar, but having that extra PG in the mix has been a key element in the Cavs success on offense.

yaasss revenge on the celts.

whew, that was a big one.

yean brown & white were out, but last time okoro was out and garland had one of his worst games, so cry me a river.

I was there last night what an electric game.    Great poise to come from behind and ultimately win it.   Cavs retain sole 1st place in the East!

Strus, Okoro, Wade, and Levert were all out. The Cavs started SAM MERRILL at SF

Please can everyone ping Dan Gilbert and have him put an offer in on the Browns?

Takeaways from Cavs-Thunder, the game of the year in the NBA

NBA Insiders

The highly anticipated matchup between the NBA's conference leaders -- the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City Thunder -- lived up to the hype and then some Wednesday night in Cleveland.

Both teams entered the game riding double-digit win streaks, and the game played out like a heavyweight tilt. The score was rarely beyond two possessions throughout, but a late Cavs run that featured clutch shooting and a few big stops secured a 129-122 win for the East's top seed.

Missing Okoro, LeVert and now Wade. Hopefully they won't be riddled with injuries for the rest of the season.

  • 2 weeks later...

Okoro and Wade still out, and now Mitchell out as well.  But we still have at least a little magic:

Spoiler alert: Just skip to the last minute.

Will miss Levert and Niang, but this seems like a pretty good deal for the Cavs, especially coming from a Hawks team that had their number!

On the one hand, I worry that this breaks the cardinal rule of "don't change a winning game."

On the other hand, most of the more knowledgeable pundits out there, certainly people with a better eye on the entire NBA as opposed to just the Cavs, seem to think this is a winning trade for the Cavs both in terms of competing for a title this year and dodging the luxury tax threshold (one more detailed article tried to explain it--first apron, second apron, gingham apron, concrete apron, my eyes glazed over and I gave up).

2. Cleveland Cavaliers

2024-25 record: 43-10

Previous ranking: 1

Next games: @ TOR (Feb. 12), @ BKN (Feb. 20), vs. NYK (Feb. 21), vs. MEM (Feb. 23), @ ORL (Feb. 25)

De'Andre Hunter's Cavs debut following his trade from Atlanta was solid; he started in place of injured Max Strus and contributed 12 points in just 23 minutes because of foul trouble. More importantly, Hunter helped Cleveland beat Minnesota for the team's 25th home win this season -- the most home wins by any team ahead of the All-Star break -- meaning that if the Cavs hold on to the No. 1 seed, they'll have home-court advantage in the playoffs. -- Dave McMenamin

With 3-4 more wins, the Cavs should clinch a playoff spot.

Well, in another couple years, the name will change again.  Maybe the next name will be Gilbert Arena.

But if they try to rename multiple arenas in which he has an interest that way, they become Gilbert Arenas, which is completely different.

Yeah, that did enter my mind.  Well then maybe Gilbert Center.

New Orleans Pelicans forward Javonte Green has agreed to a contract buyout and intends to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers upon clearing waivers, sources tell ESPN. Additional wing depth for the East-best Cavs.

We just torched the Magic for a 40-point away win, the biggest away win in franchise history ... without our starting point guard (Darius Garland was out with a hip injury).

The only downside to what we're seeing here is that Ty Jerome is an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Given the cap/apron/etc issues we're already facing, there is literally zero chance we can pay him what he's worth now.  And for the $2.6M we're paying him this this year, he's turning into one of the best bargains in basketball.

^ Not to mention our best player only scored 11 points. Total team effort.

I watched Lakers-Mavs last night. LeBron, Luka and Kyrie are absolutely amazing talents. That being said it is sooo much more enjoyable watching the Cavs style of play. Both Lakers and Mavs looked like they stole their offensive systems from JB Bickerstaff...gritty style of play but with virtually no ball movement.

Gotta grab the brass ring now. But there may be others who will want to play with this core next year too. You never know who will show up on the trade block or ask to be released.

I should probably put this in the general NBA thread, but no, I'm going to sneak this guy in here:

And TBF, considering what DeAndre Hunter has given us so far, I'm still 100% on board with that trade and give serious credit to the front office for making it happen.  But I'll still give props in the Cavs thread for LeVert at least until the end of this season.  Respect.

Love it. Also, it was nice to see live/updated views of the city skyline on television instead of stock file footage from several years ago.

TNT has done a great job with that, staying up to date. ESPN..... not so much 😴

Cleveland won this series by 122 points: The most lopsided series in NBA playoff history.
