The Land has been one of the nicknames for Cleveland since the mid-90s at least, specifically within the Black Community and within Hip-Hop culture. That along with C-Town, which more people may be fa

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

What a GREAT thing for this city!  Unbelievable!

What a GREAT thing for this city!  Unbelievable!

I think you mean believable!  Are you not a WITNESS?!   :-D

Well congrats Cleveland.  You guys definitely had the talent and determination to pull off winning this series.  Just please destroy San Antonio in the finals.  If there is one team I can't stand, it's the Spurs.

BTW, I was just looking at tickets prices.  $500 for 1 freakin seat!  Three years ago the season the Pistons won the championship, I went to two games for just $25 each.  Talk about ticket inflation or somethin.?

Cleveland WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its called the LeBron Factor!  I've just called in a favor to get some tickets and they are on lock down.  Although we aren't televising the finals, our various sports departments will be in full force I have to "witness" this in person, I may never get the chance again at my age, so it looks like I'm going to have to sneak in on my press badge.

BTW, you might want to remove the "DEEETROIT BASKETBAAAALL!!!!" with a "CLEVELAND CAVALIERS - EASTERN CONFERENCE CAMPIONS" tag...he he he he

I love the kid who is holding up the "Detroit Sucks" T-Shirt!

The best thing to happen in resent Cleveland sports history since...

And yes Hayward, nothing would make me happier if we destroyed San Antonio!

We're in the finals. Amazing!!!!

Awesome LeBron; Dan Gibson explodes from nowhere; Z cleans the glass; and every Cav steps up.... it all adds up to 1 thing... CLEVE-LAND BASKET-BALL!!!!  :yap:  :-D

Victory!! Great game, guys!

When we were hanging outside Starbucks in the Warehouse District at the end of the UO tour, Steve Kerr walked by. I wasn't sure who it was until he was walking past me.

I've been texting my friends all over the country. Bars in NYC and Chicago going crazy for the Cavs!!  My wife is working overnight at the Cleveland Clinic and reports that there is a constant intense stream of honking going on on Carnegie. And the patient wards are going crazy ( and that's not just because its the psych ward!).

I absolutely love it! This is fantastic!

My brother-in-law paid $1600 for 12th row center court seats with my sister. Best bargain in the city tonight!!!

Gibson was HUGEEEEEEEEEEEE

Fans revel in Cavs win hours after victory

Posted by Amanda Garrett June 03, 2007 02:01AM

The celebration continued hours after Cavs the 98-82 win over the Detroit Pistons.  Many revelers appeared to be drunk, but no one seemed to fighting or causing serious trouble.  When the plaza between The Q and Jacobs Fields was cleared of people, piles of beer bottles, ketchup packets, ice cream wrappers and litter remained behind.

Downtown traffic was snarled. A cacophony of horns -- honked in happiness, not frustration -- echoed through downtown.  By 1 a.m., thousands had moved into the West 6th Street bar area, clogging sidewalks and sidestreets, making it difficult for anyone or any vehicles to move.

CAVS are the sentimental favorite!  I have friends thinking or coming and they are like hotels are sky high!  I noticed any of the hotels overnight have added something to the affect, "close to the gateway area" on their websites or "in the heart of downtown".

I wonder what the total economic impact has been for the city.

Lets hope this influx of people downtown lingers over into the indians season and cleveland heavily promotes is neighborhood fairs, neighborhood tours, new developments, the ECP and ideas developments that are on the horizon.

This would also be a perfect time to get hotel operators in the city to where they could potentially build properties as we are severly void of many brands and their customers cannot leverage there loyalty programs, hence keeping them from planning events in the are.  Hopefully, someone tells police and officials to get with the program and not diss the city.

Maybe paint the trains in Cavs Colors.  BTW my brother said the trains back to shaker were packed.  They had to wait for 3 trains to out before getting on one.

Police say fans did Cavs justice; no major problems

That photo above is bad ass.  The City was absolutely crazy last night.  My girlfriend and I walked home from downtown to Ohio City at 3:00 and the traffic was still gridlocked on the Detroit-Superior bridge, with people beeping horns, blasting music, and hanging out the windows to high-five pedestrians passing them.  And like the above article stated, it was a surprisingly tame crowd throughout the city.

I question though why E4th was not closed down to vehicular traffic so people could watch the game and drink outside.  Isn't this type of event why the street was even done in the manner it was?  Strange.

Wiz fans here are seething. They think if Arenas and Butler were healthy they'd have the ECF. Classy fans here. :)  Lets see if LeBron can break the "curse".

The area around E. 4th & Prospect was essentially shut down as there were so many people in the street near Flannery's bar, no car could really get through.

I found it to be fitting for Cleveland that not but 15 minutes after we won the "f the Spurs" chants began.

why do you say that???

the game coverage on tv was awesome. greats shots of downtown and the crowds.

however, i was po'd that today on espn sportscenter the leadoff started off by immediately ripping on the cleve -- mistake by the lake, never really rocked, etc. etc., then oh but now it rocks, blah blah. totally lame idiots. i swear they will minimize anything if it isnt the knicks or nets.

on a better note -- a really great photo thread on foxsports:

The City definietly did look good on the aerial shots, a lot of reflections off the glass on the buildings.  Having the lights of Jacob's Field on also really lit up the sky aswell.  Just wish the Terminal Tower was fully lit.

Someone needs to get Sasha to stop running people over to get to the hoop, though. We need him to score this series!!

Tee hee.

Nice pickup.  That bridge is lying to us

Did anyone here catch the post game interview with Tayshaun Prince?  I believe it's still viewable on espn.com

i noticed the post game crowd reaction was relatively tame this time compared to the post-game berzerker crowd after the "miracle of richfield" in '76. if you are too young to know much about that and you want to see an awesome classic era clip check this out:

^ Very cool clip, Thanks.

MRNYC, I swear you're an old school black man!

I vaguely remember that.  The fashions in that clip were a hot mess.  Reminded me of when my dad had an afro.  I loved the way the fans stormed the court!

I think it may have been more tame due to the fact that the game was not in doubt because of the sizable lead they had over the Pistons.

It was not tame where I was after the game, what a great night for Cleveland.

Absolutely great news for the city of Cleveland/region!  They kept updating the score of this game over the loud speakers at my job (drag raceway) and when the final score came in, it seemed like nearly everyone was cheering and honking their horns!!!!

I hope all this enthusiasm towards the Cavs spills over into more of a can-do pride filled attitude amongst Cleveland and gets rid of the "It's Cleveland what do you expect" attitude that until Saturday night ran rampant.

I dropped off a friend for the 1:30 a.m. Megabus from Cleveland to Chicago. I figured downtown would be busy but not that crazy -- which is why I left Lakewood with my car's tank on E. Exiting the Shoreway, West 6th was closed to traffic. I went to West 3rd and it was gridlocked. Traffic moved better south of St. Clair, but I'm worried I'm going to run out of gas in the traffic and my friend is going to miss his bus.

I dropped him off at Prospect next to the Ritz. The bus departs from Huron side. And Huron wasn't moving. So I made a U-turn and headed to Superior, took the bridge to the Shoreway. The West 25th intersection was bogged down too. I finally made it into the clear on the Shoreway. I stopped at the gas station at Clifton and Baltic. My car's tank has a 12-gallon capacity. It took in 11.84 gallons!

C'mon Cleveland. We haven't won anything yet. Yeah, it was a great win and I'm happy the Cavs are in the finals. But the Cavs haven't done anything that the Indians didn't do in '95 and '97. Win it all, then go crazy.

Let's hope! But this is the first time for the Cavs plus the city is very "hungry" for some kind of sports championship. It's been 43 years for goodness sakes. I haven't seen one in my lifetime.

The national exposure this is giving can't be bought. The Celebs will definitely be in town as well. Next Thursday hte 14th, Russell Simmons is holding an All-Star party at Script in the Flats. Should be interesting to see how Cleveland holds its own.

^^^ I'm ecstatic the Cavs have made it to the finals. KJP, I think it's just the pent up expectations being released. Plus it's an indication of things to come, the Cavs should be strong contenders for many years to come. And the fact the Indians are favored in the East? It's doesn't get much better for a sports-obsessed town.

is it 1993 again? Did you guys just complete a three game sweep of the brewers at County Stadium?

I'm with everyone on having some fun. It's taken 37 damn years for the Cavs to win the Eastern Conference. I think a little partying is in order. :)

I am as excited as anyone, but if we lose, I hope the city doesn't have a parade like we did in '95 for the almost world series champ indians.  There should never be a parade for second place in my opinion.  That being said there will be a parade when we DO win.

I disagree.  They are still the EC Champs!

^well jeez, might as well throw a ticker tape parade tomorrow then.

My bad. Central. Yeesh.

I think it would along well with gilberts "party" atmosphere at the Q.

Why not let the fans show their appreciation?!

sorry, being a jerk. But I agree, no reason to celebrate being second best (so far)

^ your detroit has been so throughly 'owned' i dont think anyone could ever think that. heee!

hey now -- i got a follow-up to the 'miracle of ritchfield' video clip, here you can play the cavs theme song while you watch it. the article is a great read, but clik on the record and just listen to the fight song....straight outta the full cleveland era....you can practically smell the 'reefer' and funky polyester stank maaaan....!

I'm so jacked up for this series. If those guys on the team are even remotely as jacked up as me, it's going to be insane!

Here's what I like about these finals: The Cavs get three home games in the middle. If they can take one of the first two, anything could happen at home. You know the crowd is going to be obscenely loud. Thousands of people crowded outside the arena looking for wins. That's got to be intimidating.

I'd ready for a sweep!!! ;)

^ * bites nails a la lebron *

Actually, I hate the 2-3-2 format; it really sucks and puts so much pressure on the road team.  We can overcome it, but we're going to have to steal one in S.A., losing the 1st 2 a-la the Pistons series won't do, and the Spurs are a tougher brand of fish than our recently vanquished neighbors to the North.

I really don't know why, after creating thrilling series w/ the 2-2-1-1-1 format, which helps foster lots of thrilling 6 and 7 game series, the championship series is always 2-3-2.  It stinks.  And why oh why couldn't at least one weekend game be during daylight hours instead of prime-time for every stinking thing?  Television execs... sheesh!

The 2-3-2 series is set up that way because the finals are generally between an East coast and West coast team....it make the travel time easier on both teams.  I know there could be arguments for or against...but the powers that be see  this being the best way.
