I've seen 70% of the Cavs games on TV since LeBron came here, and this series has been a gigantic letdown. I can't even watch. They are getting humiliated out there! I thought they'd at least be able to compete with the Spurs. Tony Parker is good, but he looks like Zorro out there, weaving all over the place. It makes me think I could do it!

Frankly, I think LeBron's ability to go elsewhere and still be "the star" depends on him producing here. This is the stage where legends are made: A city long desperate for a champion finds a hometown superstar who finally brings it home. If he never produces here, there's no feel-good movie. Lil' Bow Wow won't get an Oscar for his role as Boobie Gibson. And LeBron won't be worth the $1 billion he wants.

But, in short, get some players who can make a basket!

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

I'm working on that!  I'll send my brother & cousins out there!  They are all past there Ohio State glory years, but at least they can rebound.

Everyone is worried about Lebron going to the Nets or the Knicks.. why?

well, some big reasons: because his good buddy jay-z is a part owner of the nets and has been openly trying to woo lebron. not only that, but the nets are moving from nj to a shiny new arena in brooklyn designed by frank gehry and built by guess who? ironically none other than clevelend's own ratner famiglia, who are also majority owners of the team.

i'm not sure it will happen, i rather doubt it as lebron has money and he seems such a laid back homeboy, but if the cavs organization tanks the team or even lets it stagnate before the brooklyn arena is built its a serious worry.

no one has ever seriously mentioned lebron going the knicks to my knowledge.

otherwise, cavs are doing fine thru start of 4th qtr tonight at home. fingers crossed for a win.

edit: oh well we might have lost the game, but we do have the excellent youtube etch-a-sketch video to show for it  :

no one has ever seriously mentioned lebron going the knicks to my knowledge.

It's been talked about since Lebron signed his Nike contract that incentives would kick in if he played for a big market team like NY, LA, or Chicago.

Everyone forgets.. this team has overachieved.. they shouldn't even be at this point because they don't have a point guard! Their back up PG (Eric Snow) creates 4 Cavs on 5 Spurs.. Come on people.. I understand this city is title hungry.. but we should be happy with the unbelievable progress Lebron has made so far.. lets not forget it took Jordan until his SEVENTH.. that's right 7th.. season to make it to the finals.

And what did Jordan have to do? Beat the Pistons to get over the hump..

Lebron is doing well and in Cleveland for many years to come.. so everyone stop worrying thinking Lebron is gonna be the next New York, New Jersey, Brooklyn, WHO CARES NET..

no, thats vague. the nets are openly wooing bron. the others were only mentioned at that time as being teams in the large markets where he could make more loot.

point being, there is one team that is known to be actively after him.

evryone is impresed by the progress of the team, but soon gilbert is going to have to pony up and give lebron a better supporting cast to keep him around.

I'm not disagreeing with your last point, you think I like Marshall throwing up bricks from E. 14th?  If I could snap my fingers and Hughes, Marshall, & Damon Jones would be gone, I would have done it a year ago.

It comes down to whether or not the Cavs can find a team to dump contracts on (ie Shawn Kemp style), if they can do that, we'll see them be able to go out and get a guy like Mike Bibby.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Varajeo's days in Cleveland are numbered though.. I think teams are gonna throw money at him he's not worth and the Cavs will let him go.

As long as Isiah Thomas is Still a GM in the league........

come on cavs!  Atleast win one game!

Cleveland looks nice.  I'm getting many reports from staff in Cleveland that really like the city but don't understand why there is not street level shopping.  Most people I've spoken too give the city two thumbs up.

Just thought I would share.

Thirty minutes before game time Tuesday night -- with excitement rising in The Q -- the broadcaster for ESPN Asia faced television cameras beneath the Cavaliers' basket and held aloft a poster reading "Rise Up."

His colleague, play-by-play announcer Kuo Hsiung Teng, decoded the mystery for the Pacific Rim. The NBA Finals had brought high hopes to a hard-luck sports town, he explained.  The citizenry looked to a savior, LeBron James -- the Emperor.  "We can feel the energy of the city," Teng declared in Mandarin, to be translated into English, Hindi, Thai and Cantonese for a potential audience of 100 million people.

I haven't read every single post on this thread, but doesn't Daniel Gibson look like the player Dajuan Wagner could've been? Both similar height, perimeter game and ability to get to the hole. Too bad injuries held him back. I don't think we got anything for him, right?

That being said, I hope the Cavs at the minimum can get a win here so we get all 3 home games played and maximize the economic benefit downtown. I never expected us to win this series, but I didn't expect us to look like this, either.

I was just downtown and filmed by a Chinese TV station standing outside of the arena.. haha

i want the cavs to win because my employer allows jeans days following a cavs victory.

I think if they lose we all should be allowed to wear jeans.  That would be depressing to get swept.

LeBron James is carrying the hopes of a lot of people on his shoulders.  On top of fans hoping to see a Cleveland win in the finals, there's a sports team that wants to continue selling out its arena, a city that wants the kind of publicity money can't buy, a sport in desperate need of a charismatic star and sponsors who hope the more than $150 million they've invested in the Cavaliers' star player was money well invested.

Unfortunately, it appears there is an imbalance between the Wester and Eastern Conference.  The Spurs played on a different level from the Cavs.  I have a feeling the results would have been similar had Phoenix or Dallas been in the finals as well.

Nobody in the East could have handled them. How did the West get so good?

thanks Cavs for a great season!

Be proud.  You represented, Cleveland and all of Ohio well!

I look forward to next season!

....now we turn out attention to the tribe........

The Witnesses-broom graphic is hilarious! That was one ugly series. Mike Greenberg said this morning that the Cavs were probably the worst team to ever make the finals. Don't know about that one, but they sure were outclassed by the Spurs.

I've talked so much sh*t around the office.  Some of the people in my office are diehard knicks or nets fans and sent that picture from knicks or nets players.  The have captions like "we witnessed the sweep", or "le broom, le broom" one even has a rake in it.

I wont even open my office door today because I know they have plastered it with all kinds of smack! Its painful.

Welcome to Cleveland, sorry we’re closed

It was Thursday night and the Cleveland Cavaliers were desperately hoping to squeak out at least one win to keep their first-ever trip to the NBA Finals alive.  Alas the Cavs lost, but I have another story to tell, one that illustrates what’s wrong with Cleveland.

Prior to last night’s game, I had occasion to be part of a conversation with an individual who came to town with dual purposes - one was to get a little business done, and the other was to provide a perhaps once in a lifetime opportunity for his son to see an NBA Finals game live and in person.  The man and his teenage son came to Cleveland from the east coast and arrived in town late Thursday afternoon.  Upon arrival, the man dispatched his son to a local lieutenant who was tasked with the responsibility of “showing the kid the sights”, while he attended to business.  They would meet up later after the man’s appointed rounds and his son had been shown the best our city had to offer.

rhal%20closed.jpg

I was involved in the business the man was in town to attend to, and in the midst of our meeting, his son arrived (lieutenant in tow) to announce - “the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame was closed.”

Unaware that the man had brought his son to town with him, we looked up in surprise and after the necessary introductions were made, a uniform “really?” was uttered by the group surprised by the revelation that our biggest sight-seeing venue was closed so early in the evening and disappointed for the young man.

“So was the submarine,” he said referring to the USS Cod Museum which is moored on the shore nearby the Rock Hall.

“Well you really didn’t miss much there,” I said hoping to raise his spirits.  I mean what more is the Cod than an old underwater tin can that gives claustrophobics the willies (I can already see the emails from offended submarining enthusiasts).

“Yeah, so we went over to the Science Center and it was closed too,” you could tell by the tone of his voice that he would have preferred the Rock Hall and the sub before resorting to the Great Lakes Science Center, but hey any port in a storm.

Gee kid welcome to Cleveland.

The man looked across the table at my associate who’s actively involved in the business of our community and said something to the effect of, “what gives?”

To which my associate looked down at the table in disgust and said, “this city’s dying.”

We then spent the next hour lamenting as a group the demise of our once proud city.  We talked about how simple it seems to recognize that during this unique moment in Cleveland’s history, visitors would be coming to our town and  looking for additional entertainment prior to the basketball game.  Given that the game started at 9pm, you think accomodations would be made for major city attractions like the Rock Hall and The Science Center to remain open late.  You would think that with our crack “Cleveland +” marketing strategy, one of the geniuses in our community’s intelligensia ranks (are you listening Dennis Roche etal) would have figured out that a FREE shuttle running up and down 9th Street from Gateway to Voinovich Park (where the Rock Hall and Science Centers are located) to compliment the later offerings would be a no brainer.

But no, this is Cleveland.

prep%20h%20bus.jpg

Our city leaders are too busy flying overhead discussing the virtues of this region or selling the Euclid Corridor rather than doing the simple stuff that would make our city at least hospitable to those who visit.

What’s really sad about this is that the man we were meeting with has an incredible amount of influence in this country with political and business leaders.  He’s raised more money and made more money than most people will ever dream of.  A long time player in national politics, the man couldn’t even name the mayor of our city (not out of arrogance, but simply because… well, our mayor is  ”inaction Jackson” - and nobody knows who he is). The man we were meeting with has the power to bring money and business to this town, but apparently the mayor’s never bothered to reach out to him.

Our meeting was successful and the man accomplished what he had come to town to do, but today he’s flying home with a disappointed teenage son, because our city failed to accomplish what it is supposed to do.

Glad to see your business worked out. Fortunately your client did not hold Cleveland’s short comings against you.

As for Cleveland+ and the other mindless talking heads that want to promote Cleveland….. these people couldn’t promote growth of mushrooms in the pile of crap.

We need new thinkers and doers. The status quo has failed us for many years. New committees made up of the same old useless people will produce the same dismal results.

I swear I seen Frank Jackson’s picture on the back of a milk carton….

what a one sided, misinformed post.  the RRHOF, CBS, GLSC and various other venues was rented out by BIG MONEY corporations and Media Outlets.  The NBA booked the Rock hall. We had space in the CBS, although I really wanted the Silver Grill.

What a jackass

I just ordered tickets to the Rock Hall this past week and was surprised to find out it's only open 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. & 9PM on Wednesdays. So if the NBA hadn't booked it, it still would have been closed.

The question is.. what will Danny Ferry make happen tomorrow?  He's gonna do something.. just a question of what.

No surprise here... the surprises (to me) came in the big trades... especially the Ray Allen move between the Celtics & Sonics.  I think the Sonics came out on top there.

Now, for us, they've highlighted three players below that the Cavs should be interested in acquiring.  Why Gerald Wallace and Rashard Lewis are not on that list is a mystery to me...

Cavs make choice to sit out this draft

The Cavaliers did not make any deals to get into the NBA Draft.  Two weeks ago, General Manager Danny Ferry said the team would consider getting into the draft if a player they were interested in was available.  Apparently, no player ever was.

Ferry said he thought he had a chance to purchase a pick late in the first round, but the team decided to keep its pick.  The Cavs did not consider making any trades to obtain a pick.  All 15 players the Cavs targeted were gone in the first round.

Chicago is going to be tough next year.  If we could get billups, that would nice.

Ray Allen - Boy was that out of the blue!

I know.  I fear Chicago...

Now, for us, they've highlighted three players below that the Cavs should be interested in acquiring.  Why Gerald Wallace and Rashard Lewis are not on that list is a mystery to me...

Because the three players they are interested in are PG, something of need.. Wallace & Lewis are gonna demand high salary contracts which the Cavs do not have the cap room for.  Realistically, Gibson is your SG or 6th man ala Ben Gordon, why sign one of these two big contract guys to fill a position we have ample supply of, assuming we resign Sasha.  Because both of their natural positions are SF.. and I think we have that position covered for the new few years....

Chicago is going to be tough next year.

How do you figure?  They drafted another offensively challenge big man?  They needed a low post scoring threat and Noah is NOT that player.  He's a younger, smaller Ben Wallace.  He fits their system but if he and Ben Wallace are on the floor together the Cavs might as well be playing 5 on 3 defense.

Oh, and Chicago isn't going to have the money to resign Andres Nocioni, one of their toughest defensive players because they have to sign Deng & Gordon long term.

I know.  I fear Chicago...

Lets hope Chicago and Washington have a lot of injuries next year!  Although, I still believe the Cavs to be one of the top four teams in the Eastern Conference, our bench is going to have to "man up".  I wouldn't mind seeing Bibby or Pierce in a Cavs uniform next year.

For someone who didn't seriously play an organized sport until my junior year in college, I am one hell of an arm chair coach/GM!!  lol

I wouldn't mind seeing Bibby or Pierce in a Cavs uniform next year.

Bibby - ABSOLUTELY, he's a PG who can handle the ball, plays good defense, and is a jump shooter who doesn't always want to create his own shot by driving like Larry Hughes.

Pierce - While a serious scoring threat, I question whether or not he'd want to play second fiddle to Lebron, plus it's apparent that the Celtics think they can win now, because Ray Allen isn't getting any younger and they traded the farm for him.  They did a good job dumping Wally's contract, but West was becoming a nice young player for them.

I LOVE Mike Bibby!!  Larry is just not producing and is not a leader and injury prone.  Dump homey now!

I think Ray will be the Celtic's Achilles heel!  I feel he and Paul with bump heads.  I've always liked Wally but hes been an underperformer.

[i've always liked Wally but hes been an underperformer.

And ridiculously overpaid for the player he is.  That's the definition of "salary dump" in the NBA trade world.

Source: Cavs keen on Raptors' Peterson

The Cavaliers did not waste time after the free-agent negotiating period began Sunday.  According to a source, the Cavs contacted Toronto Raptors guard/forward Morris Peterson shortly after the market opened.

Peterson, according to the source, is interested in playing for the Cavs because they are a "championship-caliber" team.  Playing time also is important to Peterson, said the source.  Peterson wants to become a starter or get significant playing time.  He lost his starting spot this past season.

^ Great.. so the Cavs will have to overpay to keep Andy and/or Sasha.. THEN they're potentially gonna throw money at another overrated player (Larry Hughes cough) instead of going after Mo Williams.. brilliant.

Mo better or Cavs blue?

Wednesday, July 04, 2007

Branson Wright

Plain Dealer Reporter

The Cavaliers' hopes of signing Toronto Raptors free agent Mo Peterson may have dwindled a bit shortly after the Utah Jazz released Derek Fisher on Monday.  Fisher asked and received his release from the Jazz so he could find the best medical care for his daughter, who has cancer.

Fisher, a point guard, played out of position at two-guard for the Jazz.  Now Peterson, a guard/forward, can fill that spot and fulfill one of his desires in becoming a starter.  The Cavs, the Jazz and a number of teams contacted Peterson shortly after the market opened Sunday.

Here's my idea for expanding the Cavs fanbase. Apparently they have a d-league team in....the desert somewhere. Hello, buy a d-league team and put it in Columbus. This seems like a no-brainer. That way, you can send people down and pull people up easy and you grow the overall Cavs brand in the its growing big city.

Got the idea from this story http://www.nba.com/dleague/affiliates_070705.html

I think most Cleveland fans would rather go to Rio Grande Valley, Texas then Columbus haha
