  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

Wizards' Physical Play Doesn't Rattle James

By Michael Lee

Washington Post Staff Writer

Sunday, April 20, 2008; Page D10

CLEVELAND, April 19 -- LeBron James was knocked to the floor in the first period after Andray Blatche hit him in the mouth. He was knocked to the floor in the second period after Brendan Haywood fouled him while attempting to set a screen. Haywood then stood over him. He drove to the basket so many times and absorbed so much contact that Cavaliers Coach Mike Brown said James "could've played for the Browns."

That never stopped him from going at the basket. And it didn't stop James from taking control of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals with three aggressive drives to the basket that resulted in six consecutive points and a 93-86 win on Saturday. "I was built for this," James said after tallying 32 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. "I'm not 6 [feet] 9, 260 pounds to shoot jumpers. I go to the hole and I create contact."

The 'Fro is back

Posted by Jodie Valade April 19, 2008 12:34PM

Most important pre-game sighting: Ben Wallace's afro. Wallace has worn his hair in braids since arriving in Cleveland via mid-season trade. But the surest sign that the playoffs have begun and the Cavaliers mean business is that Wallace picked out the full 'fro for this Washington series. With both Wallace and Anderson Varejao's moppy head of curls, the Cavaliers are sure contenders for the all-hair team.

A couple other pre-game notes: DeShawn Stevenson was booed roundly by the crowd at The Q when he was announced, and admitted that he's "the most hated man in Cleveland" -- based on reports teammates brought back from strolling through Tower City last night.  The Cavaliers apparently couldn't afford a new playoff slogan, because they're recycling last year's "Rise Up!" Maybe that will only change when Cleveland has risen to the ultimate height of an NBA title?

It's never going to be between me and DeShawn, it's going to be me and my team against Washington."

We'll alright then LBJ.  I guess that sums things up.  LBJ might as well have said, "Don't fuck with me fellas, 'cause I'll cut a bitch"!

LeBron.  Relax with the three point attempts already!  I don't want to witness any further airballs!

Washington Wizards, who's your daddy now?... I agree w/ Barkley, they're the dumbest team in the history of the NBA... and a journeyman like Deshawn Stevenson doing a facial move after a 3-pt'r ... to get them 16 POINTS BEHIND!!!!  That idiot needs to go grow his beard some more w/ Drew.

GO KING (MVP) JAMES! .... GO CAVS!!!!!

Favorite play of the game was Lebron's dish to Ben Wallace for the reverse slam.  The Cavs are looking pretty good.

I watched the game last night, it was my first time seeing the "new" cavs. They looked pretty damn good! I can't say the same for the Wizards' uniforms.  :wtf:

I don't know who designed those things.  They are like the new puma sneakers that are in the same colors as their uniforms.  The front is gold and the back is black!

Just hideous on all levels!

Barkley's comment about the Wizards was great.  Along with this morning's Sportscenter - "The Wizards: So Much Talk, So Little Walk".

I LOVE Charles!  Yeah ESPN in the morning is hooot!

Wasn't Barkley part of the annoying group that bad mouthed the cavs during last year’s finals?

Barkley hates Cleveland and regularly rags on the Cavs.

Do you have any concrete proof he hates Cleveland?  I'm being dead serious.

Yes and No.  He didn't think the team had it in them to win a championship.

Or beat the Pistons...

Anyways, Bill Walton is way worse than Barkley!  I hate hearing him broadcast a game.

How did the city look during the past two games?  I don't have cable so I watched the FSN broadcasts on WUAB>

The lights were out!  I wasn't happy about that!

No. My statement is based off of my perception after regularly listening to Barkley comment on the Cavs since he first appeared on TNT*.

*I no longer have cable, so my Charles listening days do not include this season.

Fair enough, but I can say, he does not hate Cleveland!

Every team has strict critics and some analysts are way off base, but your perception on his "hate" of Cleveland is  off base.  Besides, the man is entertaining and funny as all get out!

Just the tip of the tower was lit but other than that what other lights were out?

Just the tip of the tower was lite but other than that what other lights were out?

I did something I should not be doing nor have the authority to ask, but I used my powers for good and gave specific viewing points and things in the area to show coming in and out of commercials.

I specifically asked for:

shots over the lake facing south

shots coming in from the west

shots from 490 north

WSM

Playhouse Square

Public Square

the mall

The Rapid

North Coast Harbor

West Bank

University Circle

Street level at East 4th

etc., etc., etc.,

TC looked OK but then there was a whole from the Q to East Ninth!  It looked as though the lights were out.  I just wasn't happy.

kansas city usually looks good at night too, but you don't see me on my way to visit there.

Oh HUSH!  I wanted the city to be shown in a more positive light (no pun intended) and show more than stock footage, the "known" buildings and RRHOF!

kansas city usually looks good at night too, but you don't see me on my way to visit there.

It's more than about tourism, though. I prefer hearing from one of my Chicago friends who has never been there: "I saw the television shots of Cleveland during the ALCS. That looks like a great city you have there." Rather than my Bama friend yesterday: "Man, Cleveland looks deader than Mobile."

ahh, a city's true greatness is measured by its night shots during playoffs.

LeBron is ready for fouls and Soulja Boy

Posted by Jodie Valade, Plain Dealer Reporter April 23, 2008 15:04PM

LeBron James is gearing up for Thursday's Game 3 against the Washington Wizards by preparing for the worst: plenty of more hard fouls and probably lots of Soulja Boy echoing throughout the Verizon Center. "If they hit us with a punch, we have to be able to counter their punch," James said Wednesday before realizing his choice of words and grinning. "Not literally. Let me change the wording. If they make a few shots, we have to counter their attack."

James said he was surprised that Wizards center Brendan Haywood was not suspended for the flagrant-2 foul he delivered in Game 2, and that Haywood never apologized for shoving him out of bounds when he was midair. Haywood told reporters in Washington that he apologized to James.  The physical play -- specifically the fouls aimed at James -- has been the focus of this series as Cavaliers coach Mike Brown and James have voiced concern for the Wizards' vocal intent to make each James basket difficult.

I just got in and turned the game on.  We're down by 25.  WTF?!  :wtf:

cavs 100

wiz 97

despite a crummy stone cold 4th qtr the cavs did a good job in the end -- delonte west comes thru big time with the clutch game winner.

cavs up 3-1, one more to go to move on.

I totally missed the game! Dammit!!

Here's a link to the Jay-Z/Lebron diss song of DeShawn Stevenson if anyone is interested in hearing it.

WARNING:  It's very vulgar and I would not suggest listening to it out loud at work or around children.  AKA, use some headphones at work..

I totally missed the game! Dammit!!

We got the W, thats all that counts!  lol

How about thos Hawks.  Could they do us a favor?  Could they be an easier team to be in order for us to get back the EC Championship?

Joe Johnson is awesome.

I hope Lebron beats the shyte out of the Wizards single-handedly tomorrow (well, tonight now) and that DeShaun Stevenson drop less than 5 points and looks like an ass for calling Lebron overrated.

I think this team rivals the old dirty Pistons teams.

Well, heading off to the game.  Let's go cavs!  Stopping at Wonder Bar is now on my list!

I've captured and converted this to my cell phone.  I'd love to see whistles being passed out at the gates, and the announcers playing an expurgated version of this song, and Gary Puckett's "Young Girl" for DeShawn.

I doubt it will happen though at the corporatized Gund/whatever it's called this week....

can anyone tell me why the heck wally gets to gun like six 3 pt'er bricks in a row in the 3rd quarter? what in the sam hail was that all about? it's not like the cavs in the 3rd qtr in general don't grate my nerves enough....unnngh.

WHAT ARE THE CAVS DOING?  OPEN THREES MISSED LEFT AND RIGHT.  MY NIECE PLAYS BETTER!  UGH!!!!

IF THEY LOSE TONIGHT, THE CAVS SEASON IS OVER.

i am supremely pissed!

Damn!  Why did LeBron jack that foolish 3 with the Cavs up by 5 and 1.23 left?  If he drove and got the foul we could have closed it out.  LeBron giveth and, sometimes, LeBron taketh away... Z was heroic tonight, the rest of our Bigs?  Horrible.  Joe couldn't shoot.  Andy's playing like he's in lala land, driving crazily and just heaving the ball at the bucket, and Ben's D was lacking.

I sure hope that didn't open the door to Washington winning this thing... Why do the Cavs ALWAYS seem to make things so difficult?

How the hell did that happen?!?!  Overall a very poorly played game by both teams.

Why do the Cavs ALWAYS seem to make things so difficult?

This should be your quote or is it just your favorite line?  lol

i am supremely pissed!

I'm royal pissed!  The shit i'm going to get at the office in the morning!  ugh!!

No excuse for this... Only Z seemed to play with a sense of urgency tonight and he had my Game Ball - a shame to waste such an effort... The sad thing is Washington had all but packed their golf clubs; if, w/ 5 up, LeBron drives in scores or gets fouls and even hits 1 of 2 FTs, they're done... You never let an opponent up off the mat like that.  Hope it doesn't come back to bite is in the arse.

As I've said before, we don't have "killer" instincts and can't finish off teams we are suppose to finish off.

I think we let them back in, I don't see the Cavs winning the series.

CAVS, thanks for another good year!

CAVS, thanks for another good year!

I think we'll come back and end it in DC... As many points as LeBron had, he mentally seemed adrift tonight all the way up to the miss on his last drive w/ 3.5 seconds left; he turned it off and on.  I expect him to be on Friday and we'll end it; that's our pattern.  We for some reason, w/ the exception of the Detroit "party" last season, don't seem to like to let our fans enjoy a home close-out win... I wish the Cavs brought it every game, but well....

Btw give Caron Butler huge props.  Eddie Jordan, too: that "hack-a-Ben" sequence was another key Cavs' momentum killer; very smart play by Jordan.

^they played the first half as if they had already won the series. With how great Lebron is, I don't understand why he doesn't drive the lane more often in the first half, and I also don't understand why we spread the floor until 3 seconds remain on the shot clock and then let Lebron take on the....ahhh, this game was very frustrating!

I did take a few pics...I will post them later.

Thank GOD we have a 1st round pick this year.. Ferry better make a deal with the devil to find us someone who can score.

I have a feeling "next year" will be here soon.
