  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

JO has $21M & $23M left (2 years for those at home).. in addition to JO we'd get the #11 pick in this year's draft.  In return we'd send the expiring contracts of Wally $13M & Eric Snow $7M.  Indiana wants to clear cap room, so to them it makes sense.  To me, it seems like they'd want a little more than just those two expiring contracts.  As it stands, I'd do the deal in a second.  They could use that higher pick for a PG or a shooter who can create his own shot.  Then, use #19 to add depth.

ummm...I don't know.  looking at NBA.COM and ESPN.COM stats.  JO has averaged on 50 the past two years.  He's a part-time employee.  :?

I like M. Redd or A. Iguodala as potential players.

yeah, I don't want him.  He only played 42 games last year and hasn't played more than 70 games since '03-'04.

no way...there will be better deals out there...patience young jedis

We shall see, this is just a rumor.. no need to get your panties in a bunch MTS.

why is it big z was not allowed to play for lithuania but lebron will play for the usa?

the glass feet?

Pretty much, it appears Lithuania, cannot pay the insurance for Z to play.  You know the Cavs are trying to protect their interest, since the Cavs pay him.

From a business standpoint, I don't blame the Cavs, but I feel bad for Z.

I wonder how much the insurance is, implying could he pay for it himself? He shouldn't have to, put how many times do you get to play for your nation in the Olympics.

Thankfully Jermaine O'Neil is going to Toronto.. don't need another salary cap killer who won't be what the team needs (cough cough Ben Wallace).

how many times do you get to play for your nation in the Olympics.

So far: 0 for me.

I agree, though. I'd like Z to have a chance.

fwiw -- although livingston was dubious at the pd, chad ford at espn rated all the teams for draft picks and gave the cavs high marks

Cleveland Cavaliers                                                                Grade: A-

Round 1: J. J. Hickson (19)

Round 2: Darnell Jackson (52), Sasha Kaun (56)

Analysis: Hickson has been one of my sleepers in the draft. He has an NBA body and great athleticism, and he can play inside and out. His game needs to develop, but the raw tools are impressive. He could be a nice long-term replacement for Joe Smith. At No. 19, he was one of the few players left on the board with a chance of being a great player.

And according to John Hollinger's statistical formula, Jackson is one the biggest sleepers in the draft. As for Kaun, he'll be playing pro ball in Russia next year.

I love Vince, but why in the world would we want him now? 6 Years ago, yes. Today, no!

Carter staying after Cavs offer Szczerbiak

NETS NOTEBOOK

The Nets may seem to be in the process of blowing up their roster, but if they truly wanted to experience a true demolition job, they had their chance Wednesday night.  As they were putting some of the finishing touches on the Richard Jefferson-Yi Jianlian deal, the Nets received a call from the Cleveland Cavaliers, who offered them Wally Szczerbiak and his expiring, $13.2 million salary for Vince Carter.

According to two Eastern Conference executives, who asked for anonymity so as not to spill Rod Thorn's secrets, the Nets considered it -- but not for very long.  Thorn would not comment on the discussion yesterday, but while the deal would have crippled his offense, it would have freed up yet more money for the 2010 free-agent market.  The Nets have only $36 million earmarked toward player salaries that summer, and the removal of Carter's four-year contract would cut that in half.

Many are speculating that the Nets moves are in preparation of trying to land LeBron in 2010.  The addition of Yi Jianlian is an attractive teammate to have if LeBron is looking to further court the huge Chinese market.  It is well known that LeBron wishes to be the first billionaire athlete, something that would be much easier accomplished if he were a more renown worldwide brand.  Personally, I don't see LeBron leaving, but it is interesting to see the personnel moves being made in advance of his impending free agency.

The wild card: what if the Nets don't end up in Brooklyn after all: http://ny.metro.us/metro/sports/article/Booker_attempts_to_woo_newlook_Nets/12802.html

If this seems far fetched, consider that most of the Atlantic Yards project could collapse under its own weight given the current real estate and lending environment.

and I'm just tired of reading ridiculous lebron rumor after ridiculous lebron rumor.  A LOT can happen in 2 years.  In the meantime read this, which explains exactly why lebron will always sign his next contract here.  I'm not saying he'll stay in cleveland forever, but it makes zero sense for him to leave via free agency.  if he leaves it will be because he forced his way out via trade... like every other superstar does.

CDawg you should get a job with the national media.

Correction CDawg should "stifle it"!

how one could discern from those comments that he doesn't like, or even love, Cleveland, is beyond me.  all his comments infer is that there are 5 places that he likes more than Cleveland...nothing wrong with that.

Who frickin' cares. He's got two seasons left. This is 2008. Stars go where they go. I think these same pinhead writers just enjoy the idea of him "heartbreaking" Ohio. If he leaves without winning a championship, I'm blaming Danny Ferry because he's the butthead calling the shots.

edit: And another thing, I'm sick of this eternal inferiority complex we have toward cities like New York and Chicago. I've said this a million times, but we are not in the same class and we shouldn't compared to them. We should aspire to be regarded like cities like Austin and Portland. This is not to say we are inadequate, but come on, New York is the center of the media universe in the United States. We should look to carve our own niche. And it can be with or without LeBron--although I'd prefer if he stayed.

^not really, because he didnt say, "cleveland? not one of my favorite cities."

let's not get too riled up here the nets and the knicks stink worse than the cavs and it is very possible at the moment that the rats will dump the nets (jay-z is a celeb add-on like usher was for the cavs -- the ratners are the real owners). so the nets could very well be playing in downtown newark not brooklyn.

one thing is clear, lebron would not go from one mediocre team to another, no way.

Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly close to acquiring guard Mo Williams from Milwaukee

Posted by Mary Schmitt Boyer, Plain Dealer August 13, 2008 15:46PM

The Cavaliers apparently are about to pull off a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks to obtain point guard Mo Williams.  Various media outlets, including ohio.com, newsok.com and ESPN.com, have reported that the Cavs are part of a six-player deal involving Milwaukee and Oklahoma City, although neither the Cavs nor the Bucks would confirm the deal.

The Cavs would get Williams from the Bucks in exchange for forward Joe Smith and guard Damon Jones and their expiring contracts.  The Bucks would send Smith and forward Desmond Mason to Oklahoma City, which would send point guard Luke Ridnour and swingman Adrian Griffin to the Bucks.

Can anyone recall the last time the PD was cited as source that broke a Cleveland sports-related news story?  Being the hometown paper, shouldn't they have some connections that would allow for this to occasionally occur?

Well it's official, it's on the Cavs website.  I'm not sure how I feel about this trade.. it smells of desperation.

Well it's official, it's on the Cavs website.  I'm not sure how I feel about this trade.. it smells of desperation.

Hardly; it's a very good trade.  We get an upper echelon point guard who's a great shooter who can dish (over 6 assists per game).  He scores over 17 ppg and is an 85% FT shooter on a poor FT shooting team... He's another outside/3 pt scorer, like Gibson, but one who can create his own shot, which takes tremendous pressure off LeBron and makes him that much more dangersous.  It also reduces Delonte West's bargaining power; negotiations with Ferry were/are at an impasse.  West's a good PG, but not as dangerous as Mo.  West will now probably sign the $2.8M, 1 year qualifying offer which makes him a free agent next summer.  If he helps us win a title this year, let him walk.  We really aren't that far off.  I hate losing Joe Smith, a talented Big, but you have to get something to get something, and we still need a PG and an open court scorer.  Plus, JJ Hickson is apparently turning lots of heads despite beeing a rook; word is he can play w/ his back to the basket but can also score down in the blocks ...

... I like this deal a lot.  Ironically, LeBron's halfway around the world.  I'm sure he likes it, too.

I'm not saying he's not a good player.. however, he's missed around 60 games the past 3 seasons, his defense is suspect, and he's known as a selfish player.  Now I'm not worried about the last one, a quick smack in the back of the head by Lebron will solve that.  Health worries me.  Can Mike Brown turn him into a decent defensive player?  We'll see.  Is he an upgrade over West/Gibson/Snow/Whoever else we have on the bench.. Yes.  Am I jumping for joy, screaming championship?  No.

If we go out and trade Wally/Snow and sign/trade West for another all-star.. THEN I'll be excited.

Sounds like a very good trade. We need a scorer who can create his own shot. He's got a great field-goal and FT percentage. And he's a point guard. Nice move by Ferry.

Note: I will say, bravo Danny for giving up Spam for a T-bone.

If Ferry can now turn the Snow/Wally expiring contracts into a young "big", he should be up for exec of the year IMO

Cleveland fans need a new mindset when it comes to LeBron James

http://www.ohio.com/

By PATRICK MCMANAMON

Akron Beacon Journal

It's time to change our thinking about the future of LeBron James, time to turn the viewpoint that James will leave Cleveland on its ear - for good reason.  Because the Cavs seem to have something very slick and important up their sleeve.  And that is to keep James and give him a superstar-caliber cohort as a teammate. The vision - and it's not a pipe dream - has James staying and playing on the same team as Dwyane Wade. Or Chris Bosh. Or Josh Howard. Or Amare Stoudemire. Or any of the other big-name NBA guys who can become a free agent in the summer of 2010.

Don't laugh.  There is only one NBA team positioned to sign two superstars in 2010, and that's the Cavaliers.  That's because there's only one team with a superstar and the cap room to sign another.  Everyone has been focusing on the cap space of the New Jersey Nets or the New York Knicks or Athens, Greece, but the Cavs quietly have manipulated themselves to the point that they have more salary-cap room than anyone for that offseason.  The Cavs have almost $30 million in cap space - and that counts James' salary, which will go away when he opts out of his final year.

A little write up on the Cavs new guard:

Mo, Me And Pierogi

Getting To Know The Cavs' New Point Guard, Helping Him To Know Us

By Vince Grzegorek

On a weekday afternoon after practice, less than seven days before the start of training camp, Mo Williams sits at a worn table at Sokolowski's University Inn, surrounded by a gluttonous feast in full-court press. Pierogi, stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and kielbasa are splayed in front of the Cavs' new point guard, his toned 6-foot-1-inch frame threatened by the calorie-packing punch perfected by generations of Polish grandmothers.  "I'm building a small house over here," chuckles Williams. "I'm trying to lose weight. This food's too good. It's gonna have to be a once-a-month deal or they'll cut my playing time. I'll be a small forward."

and the article:

"I love Cleveland, I love Ohio, and I'm not going anywhere."

October 6, 2008 12:27 PM

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-35-15/-I-love-Cleveland--I-love-Ohio--and-I-m-not-going-anywhere--.html

Notice, he also apparently knows the hours of the local voter registration office by heart. Well done.

Now, is this really true? Is he really not going anywhere?

He's the same guy who a few weeks before the Olympics couldn't imagine a situation whereby he would not speak out about Darfur. You get the sense he has the ability to say what the crowd wants to hear.

But ... I'm sure it's nice for Cleveland fans to know that he at least understands how to say these words. The thought is not foreign to him. That's worth something.

And as he said it, he was not wearing a Yankee cap.

Expectations for the team among the media seems to be mixed, but not like that really matters!  I know I have a much better feeling going into this season over lasts.  Go Cavs!
