  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

Amazing first quarter!!  Lets makes this a blow out!

The city looks gorgeous!

Lets get this W cavs.

Hopefully your winning attitude/energy will rub off on your next door neighbors.

Why did Allen take that cheap shot at Andy's Nuttz?!

On the other side, Andy's got some brass balls!

didn't even flinch!!

didn't even flinch!!

OK!  I flinched

I did too!  I felt it myself

I did too!  I felt it myself

So did I.  I just didn't want to admit before.  I'm sure every man in the arena and watching on tv did a grape check!

I think every man watching that game felt that cheap shot!  I don't know how Andy didn't jump at that guy for that!

Theres a poll on espn.com and some people actually pick the celtics to win the championship... They can't win in Cleveland.. so what are those folks smokin..?..

I think every man watching that game felt that cheap shot! I don't know how Andy didn't jump at that guy for that!

Andy didn't react, either he has brass-ilian cajones, or none at all!

Let's lock up the best record in the league tonight!!

LOL  good one!  LOL  Andy is going to have plenty of booty calls after that.  It's all over the NBA and other media outlets.

Or "long balls"..... maybe Allen shot too high for his target.  No man would be able to take a flush shot like that without so much as a wimper.

I hope the tape goes to the NBA office.  Allen should be fined.  That was flagrant!

I still have no clue how he got a technical, too.  I would absolutely hate him if he played for another team.

I think he was mouthing off, but it's not clear.

Andy was walking toward Allen with hands up and not listening to the officials.  Maybe that is why he was issued T.  Also the Cavs bench was about to clear.  This was a way to keep the game in control.

I think the NBA should investigate and Allen suspended for 2 games.  come on, that was a cheap shot, even street ball doesn't get that dirty.

Eastern Conference playoff seedings are set:

(1)Cleveland

(8)Detroit

(4)Atlanta

(5)Miami

(3)Orlando

(6)Philadelphia

(2)Boston

(7)Chicago

I am happy we are playing Detroit and not Chicago in round 1.  The Bulls are going to give the Celts a series.  They really improved with that Salmons/Miller pick-up.

Too bad Philly could not beat out Miami for the 5 seed.  I really wanted Wade in the opposite bracket, especially with Beasley coming on strong down the stretch run.  They worry me for round 2.  Atlanta, not so much.  In the conf. finals, I am hoping for anybody but Orlando.

Hts...Im not sure but i think Chicago has a real good look at the 6 seed.  They have one game lef, where philly plays boston and Cleveland.

I have never, ever said this in my lifetime...but the road to a championship COMES THROUGH CLEVELAND, OH!!!!

Buckle yours straps folks, its going to be an awesome ride.

I still have some fear of Boston.  I think Orlando will crumble in the playoffs.  I realize my statements run counter to the regular season results, but Boston is tough, Orlando isn't.

Also, Varajeo played like a stud last night.  If he could just get stronger, he would become an absolute beast.

Honey, if you're going to quote a famous movie, get the quote right or let me people use it in a snappy retort.

Thanks pumpkin, you're a peach!

I agree and Detroit is a strong playoff team and knows that all teams are 0-0 in the playoff.  They will not go down easy.

Call me a skeptic, but I'm worried that Miami or ATL might upset us.  The season has been to "perfect".

^what movie?  I just spoke my mind...not intending to replicate anything.

:) That's all I can say right now about the Cavs.

See your PM from Margo Channing!

From Deadspin:

"When the Cavs reserves pushed the lead to 30, James, Mo Williams and Delonte West boogied together during a timeout as Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" pumped through the arena. The trio wasn't shy about things as they mugged for TV cameras to the roaring crowd's delight.

At the other end of the floor, the Celtics sat stoically while watching the Cavs' clown around.

"I'm always going to remember that," Ray Allen said. "If I beat a team, as happy as I may be in victory, I'm always going to stay humble and always remember that there's another day. We play each other too much. Those are great motivational thoughts for me."

What a freaking baby.  I always liked Ray Allen.  But after his unmanly elbow and this quote, he might pass Mikey Moore as my least favorite Celtic.

What a punk @$$ p&ssy fag!  How dare you elbow another man in the nuts then claim to be "humble".  Way to get my pressure up Ray!

Seriously.  How can you elbow a man in the cajones and then claim to take the "higher road."

I'm so upset I could go to Baaaaaston and burn down the Gaaaden!  I'd be doing those chowda heads a favor!

so do they just sit the starters and play the bench tonight for the season finale?

so do they just sit the starters and play the bench tonight for the season finale?

I know.  If they don't win, the media will tear the coach apart and I think it will kill his chances for coach of the year.

Put the big guys in to start both half (5-7 min), get the game going and then sit them.

With a chance to go down in history with the best home record in basketball, I would do everything to win.  Granted, we've got to think of the bigger picture and the playoffs.

I'm torn but I want the best for the team and the fans that have been there all year.

so do they just sit the starters and play the bench tonight for the season finale?

Yes, yes they will (at least some of them):

LeBron, Williams, Ilgauskas, Smith to sit out Cavs' season finale

CLEVELAND: The Cavaliers have chosen reward over risk.

All-Stars LeBron James and Mo Williams and veterans Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Joe Smith will not play tonight against Philadelphia to rest for the playoffs, despite the Cavs attempting to match the 1985-86 Boston Celtics' NBA record of 40 home wins in one season.

Cavs coach Mike Brown said the decision was easy because his team has much bigger goals and he doesn't want to jeopardize its chances of winning an NBA title by getting a player hurt in a meaningless game.

And, I think this is the smart thing to do.  A regular season record-breaker won't make a difference if a starter (esp. LeBron) gets hurt.  Rest them well, and man-up for the playoffs.

I don't buy that "hurt" crap.  Any one of the starters could get hurt at any moment. but to use that as an excuse - for the home finale - is insulting.

Just say, "I don't want to play my starters, period"

Yeah, I'm a little bummed they're not playing.  At least start them and let them play for a quarter.  Hell, at least let them go through the starting introductions.  I actually think they'll pull it off tonight, anyhow.

I know it's been decades since Cleveland has seen a championship team, so I can forgive you two your poor judgment which doubtlessly comes from years of bitter disappointment.  So, let me tell you what Smart Teams do at the end of the season:

- They rest their starters whenever possible, because the playoffs are one long grind.

- They give their bench players more and more responsibility, because you know you will need to go deep into the bench

- They don't go after meaningless records which nobody ever remembers save for the times of schadenfreude when sportscasters say "Hey, remember that 1994 Sonics team that went all-out at the end of the season to get the best record only to get blown out by the eighth-seeded Nuggets?  That sure was worth playing those starters all those unnecessary minutes, huh?"

- They don't take unnecessary risks with their prized starters.

Eyes on the prize, people!  You'll thank Coach Brown when you see him riding that convertible through Public Square.  Unless, of course, you think you're a better coach than he is.

I agree.  Good post (especially the use of "schadenfreude" :) ).

The Cavs have been in the playoff for several years in a row now.  Come on, you can do better than that!

As an avid fan of many sports, most starters in Basketball are rested the last week.  Since we locked up a playoff spot a month ago, we could have rested our starters all along, correct?

Again, any one of the starters could have been hurt in Indianapolis, or Sunday at home against Boston or any other game, correct?  So what is the difference in this one game?

And you're right, two years ago Dallas had an amazing record, rested their players and were swept in the first round.

In the playoff everyone has a "0-0" record.

I say play them for a short span, make the fans who have supported you all season happy.  It's a business.  They are professional athletes who are groomed to play several nights a week.

If I was a season ticket holder I would pissed.

Avogadro made a NUMBER of good points!    :-D

Not as pissed as if you only got to go to one game the whole year.

I still think it's the right move though.

Avogadro made a NUMBER of good points! :-D

As a University of Cincinnati fan, I have two words for you:

KENYON MARTIN

Note, I said they should start and play a quarter.  I am not sitting here saying they should play the starters and play them to win.  I'm just saying start them, play a quarter at most, then bring in the subs.

Avo, do you remember what happened to the Colts after they went 14-0 and then sat their starters the next 2 games?  They lost against the Steelers in the Conference Semis.  So your point about the Sonice is antecdotal, at best.  Sometimes it's teams that have to bust their ass just to get in the playoffs that win it all (None of this has anything to do with tonight, I recognize).

Exactly.  Start them, get them in the game for 5-7 minutes.  For the majority of the season we've rested the starters the majority of the 4 quarter, correct?

Huh?  This argument doesn't make any sense.  We were trying to secure home court advantage thoughout the whole playoffs up until winning the IND game.  Thats a pretty good reason to keep playing your starters.  The outcome of tonights game has no bearing on the playoffs for the Cavs.  Its essentially an exibition game.

*groan*

Sorry,  can't help myself!!

And you're right, two years ago Dallas had an amazing record, rested their players and were swept in the first round.

That's a great point that you made, except for one thing: it's not true.  Granted, Howard and Nowitzki sat for game 81, but they played full minutes for games 79 and 80, and the only reason that they had slightly fewer than average minutes for game 82 was because it was a blowout.

So, what do Championship Teams do on the last game of the season?  Let's see...

-The 2008 Celtics halved the minutes of their starters

-The 2007 Spurs (the team the Cavs emulate the most) didn't play Duncan, Ginobili, or Parker a single minute.  (Hey, what team did they annihilate in the Finals?)

-The 2006 Heat benched two unknowns named Wade and O'Neal.

To hell with you all!  If we don't get the record tonight and don't win an NBA championship.  It's all your fault!  Bastards!  :P

I thought they'd play for a half to keep them fresh.  But there is absolutely NO reason to play any of those guys tonight.  Who buys a ticket to the last game of the regular season anyway?  Save the cash for the playoff tickets.  Good call Mike.  Bring us a championship.

Season ticket holders.  Those who are spontaneous.  Corporations.

For the umpteenth time, I do not think anyone is saying "go out there and sacrifice limbs for a W."  Just saying, play the starters for at least the introductions, then get them out after a couple of minutes.

And I still disagree on the theory that rest is always good.  I would agree that it is probably the safer play, but I do not think the verdict is out on whether it helps or harms.  Well...with basketball, considering it's a 7 game series, momentum is probably less important than in football.  And even though baseball is 5 (then 7) game series, hitting is all about timing, and pitching is all about rhythm.    Thus, maybe keeping everyone N'Sync (viva Justin, Joey, Lance, and Kris?) is more important for football and baseball, and not so important for hoops.

I still think the crowd deserves to hear..."and from St. Vincent-St. Mary..."
