December 15, 200915 yr Maybe this is more buiness, but great news for both the Cavs and the City of Cleveland! Chinese investor Kenny Huang sees bigger, better things for both Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James By Brian Windhorst December 14, 2009, 8:48PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Kenny Huang is a man who understands. He speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese and English. He has an undergraduate degree from a Chinese university and postgraduate degrees from two American universities. He knows about roads, electrical infrastructure, used to work on Wall Street and soon will own pieces of basketball teams in both China and America. He splits his time between Hong Kong, Guangzhou and the United States. His perspective on the world, and specifically the way Americans and Chinese relate and can do business, is unique. When he sees the Cavaliers and LeBron James he thinks big, grand long-term ideas. Then he executes them. With Huang standing over their shoulders, Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena President Len Komoroski and Xu Yan, the Tsingtao President of Global Marketing, signed a large multi-year sponsorship agreement at The Q Monday afternoon. Tsingtao (CHING-dow) is China's most popular beer company and one of its most well-known brands. Sort of like Budweiser in the U.S. By the end of the year, Huang will likely finish another deal, completing the purchase of a 15 percent stake in the Cavs, representing the first major investment by the Chinese in American pro sports. That ownership deal, signed in May during the Eastern Conference Finals, will sell former Cavs Vice Chairman David Katzman's 15 percent to a group led by Huang. December 15, 200915 yr battle of the bazillionaires? it'll boil down to china's kenny huang vs russia's mikhail prohkorov for lebron's services. http://thesportsbizblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/nets-new-owner-to-be-russian.html hey lebron ny is big, but china is umm, a billion times bigger. heh. moneywise he'd be smart to choose tsingtao over vodka!
December 15, 200915 yr We talked about the new ownership and possible influence on the team and city a few months ago: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,15104.180.html Maybe we should merge the two discussions and create a new thread in "Ohio Business" since there seems to be some interesting news ahead?
December 15, 200915 yr The move to Brooklyn is still a few years away and the team is in a major state of rebuilding. If Lebron ever joins the Nets, it won't be until his next contract is up in 2013.
December 16, 200915 yr here's the latest news on the nets thing: the russian guy now owns 80% of the nets. the ratners just sold $500m in construction bonds in two hours on tuesday and they hope to open the arena june, 2012: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/12/15/bonds-for-nets-arena-in-brooklyn-sell-briskly/ http://www.barclayscenter.com/
December 26, 200915 yr CLEVELAND 102 , LA LAKERS 85 Merry Christmas everyone! :D Highlights of the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFafmXhxxrg and also, this happened last night in LA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ_6WhF500c
December 26, 200915 yr Classy LA...real classy. NEXT! the next win must be a quality win as well or we'll be left scratching our heads.
December 26, 200915 yr "Why do guys who get thrown out get standing ovations?" Good question.... It is one thing to show appreciation for holding one's ground on a controversial call or when there is obvious dirty play....But, for whiners and complainers like Wallace or Odom in this particular instance...it only sends a message that inappropriate behavior is ok. Maybe having this escalate these days has something to do with mass marketing/media, more than ever before---as they are cashing in on it--- making anti-social, aggressive, and/or criminal like behavior...and being just plain stupid, look as though it is cool/glamorizing it! See "The Merchants Of Cool" Staples Center L.A. == What a pretentious environment!
December 26, 200915 yr love how lebron gets the team all together and settles them down after the laker ejections and the flying foam -- now thats team leadership!
December 26, 200915 yr It was suppose to be the best game of the day and ended up being a blowout :) Go Cavs
December 26, 200915 yr That was such an awesome game and the Lakers were just pissed off because they played against a Cavs team that was just all around better. I loved how the Lakers came into the game like this was no real contest and got spanked. Lakers are so petty especially Kobe. It was especially good because they didn't win because Lebron put on a one man show. Anderson, Mo, JJ, Moon...they were all great. It is so nice to see the Cav have depth and we can rely on the bench. Remember in the past whenever LBJ would sit down our lead would eveporate? Can't wait to see what Powe brings to the table come February. This win was huge but it's just one of many big wins that we need. That was so much fun.
December 28, 200915 yr Classy LA...real classy. NEXT! the next win must be a quality win as well or we'll be left scratching our heads. So does a 25-point win over the 18-13 Rockets qualify as a "quality" win?? :) "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

So does a 25-point win over the 18-13 Rockets qualify as a "quality" win?? :) Yes it was an awesome game. I'm all tuckered out of this good solid day in Cleveland sports. First the I freeze my ass off at the Browns game then I lose my voice at the CAVS game! Go Cleveland!
December 28, 200915 yr Yes it was an awesome game. I'm all tuckered out of this good solid day in Cleveland sports. First the I freeze my ass off at the Browns game then I lose my voice at the CAVS game! Go Cleveland! MTS...I am so jealous of your day! Cavs are streaking. This is going to be anotherfun year. Delonte is picking up his game, and the Cavs have been looking DEEP lately.

Delonte is picking up his game, and the Cavs have been looking DEEP lately. I always miss games or have to leave early, but Sunday it was either shop with my mom and the girls or go to the game. And after being held captive on Saturday, shopping from 7:45 AM to 10 PM, I couldn't do it again. You guys never thought I would say that, huh?! LOL So about 30 of us went to the Browns game. Then we headed over to my cousins' in the WD, where we changed. Some other family members met us and then 25 us went to the Q. It was awesome!
December 30, 200915 yr Cavs have jumped to the top of ESPN's power rankings. All of them (Stein, Hollinger, fans)
December 31, 200915 yr Wow what a game tonight. Great comeback capped by Varejao hitting his first 3 of his career. Happy Birthday LeBron!
December 31, 200915 yr WOW, what a game! Cleveland 106 Atlanta 101 LEBRON JAMES -- 48 Pts (15-23 FG, 4-6 for three pointers!), 10 rebounds, 6 assists MO WILLIAMS -- 14 points, 10 assists VAREJAO -- 14 points, 9 rebounds we almost had 3 double-doubles!
December 31, 200915 yr I don't know if I've ever seen the Cavs win a stretch of games like they have over the last ten. Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Atlanta on the road. And Houston and Atlanta at home. Really impressive wins.
December 31, 200915 yr I don't know if I've ever seen the Cavs win a stretch of games like they have over the last ten. Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Atlanta on the road. And Houston and Atlanta at home. Really impressive wins. They let ATL score at will in the first quarter, however, I'm glad to see Mike has learned to make adjustments.
January 21, 201015 yr Lakers-Cavaliers Preview CLEVELAND (AP) -- Seconds after LeBron James and his Cavaliers teammates dismissed the Toronto Raptors, one excited Cleveland fan began a solitary chant. "Beat L.A., Beat L.A.," he screamed. Dude, chill. It's January. But maybe not too early to dream about June. After all, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers are coming. In possible NBA finals preview Thursday night, Cleveland will host the Los Angeles Lakers, who have a score to settle after being embarrassed 102-87 by the Cavs on Christmas Day. It was a lump-of-coal-in-the-stocking-loss that ended with irate Lakers fans tossing foam fingers onto the Staples Center court in anger. More at http://espn.go.com/nba/preview?gameId=300121005
January 22, 201015 yr Injured PG Williams out at least a month for Cavs Updated Jan 21, 2010 - 8:21 PM ET Cavaliers starting point guard Mo Williams will miss at least one month with a sprained left shoulder, a major blow to the Eastern Conference's top team. An MRI revealed the sprain and the Cavs said that Williams, who has played in 124 of a possible 125 games since joining Cleveland before last season, is projected to be out for the "next four to six weeks" - a timetable that could keep him out until the first week in March. Williams is the club's second-leading scorer and top playmaker other than LeBron James. Williams injured his shoulder in Tuesday night's win over Toronto when he reached for a steal in the third quarter and banged into a few Raptors players. He was taken to the locker room for an examination and treatment before returning to the floor and making a key 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. Cleveland coach Mike Brown said it is his understanding that rest should take care of Williams' injury. It's not likely he will need surgery. On Tuesday, the Cavs initially said Williams had sustained a strain, but changed the diagnosis to a sprain, which indicates there is a tear in the shoulder. January 22, 201015 yr Great game! I was worried about tonight's game, since Mo was out with an injury. But it seems that even without one of the other players on the team capable of scoring 20 points a game, we can still come out on top against last year's champions!
January 22, 201015 yr That was a huge win without Mo. That's got to be a big confidence builder. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
January 22, 201015 yr Defense! Remember their front line tearing us apart last year? I think Odom had 30 against us at home last year. We definitely have the grit.
January 22, 201015 yr Now we're going to have to be without Delonte West. Even though he's due to miss just one game, I suspect his adjustment to playing with a broken finger will reduce his production. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
January 22, 201015 yr It will certainly reduce his production, but in Delonte's case, the best thing for him is to continue playing and being around his teammates. I would have hated to see him out of action for any extended period of time. About last night's game, there was A LOT of purple and gold in the stands. And nothing gave me more pleasure than watching the Lakers' fan in full Lakers'/Kobe gear sitting in front of me storm off in a fit after the game was over. Poor guy probably waited a better part of a decade waiting to see Kobe and the Lakers play.
January 26, 201015 yr Drool All You Want, Miami. LeBron Hearts Cleveland. You held those signs -- "Come to Miami, LeBron. Work on your tan!" -- and you wore your #23 jerseys. You even cheered occasionally when he scored. But you're not from Cleveland, so you just don't understand. Ever been to wig night at the Q, to celebrate Anderson Varejao's unruly mop? Or sat in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Euclid Avenue, surrounded by so many honking, cheering, and absurdly jubilant fans that the cops gave up directing traffic and joined the party? ..... They don't realize that James already is a savior of Cleveland. The Jesus-style Nike poster of him that hangs from a prominent building downtown is only a slight exaggeration of his status in the Paris of the Rust Belt. http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/juice/2010/01/lebron_james_dwayne_wade_miami.php
January 27, 201015 yr ^ Thanks for posting that. "the Paris of the Rust Belt" - Haven't heard that one in a while! "Impoverished, corrupt, hemorrhaging population, and cursed with six months of gray winter" - booooo! "Ashtabula -- a tiny coal town an hour north of Cleveland" - I think that might be the first time I have heard of any town being described as "north" of Cleveland.
January 27, 201015 yr Paris of the Rust Belt? That's new to me... Another article putting C-Town in a negative light. Great. However, a good article about LeBron.
January 27, 201015 yr Paris of the Rust Belt? That's new to me... Another article putting C-Town in a negative light. Great. However, a good article about LeBron. It's not an official nickname but I have heard it before. I think it is a thing in the local print media - free times, scene, etc. Not sure of the origin... if there is one. The article itself is not that bad in terms of putting Cleveland in a negative light... save for that one line. I thought it was actually somewhat complimentary to our fans and general attitude and a slight at Miami/NYC/etc fair weather fans who have a sense of entitlement when it comes to Lebron.
January 27, 201015 yr The Cavs have not lost by more than 3 points in over a month and went 15-3 during that streak They have not lost by more than 10 points since 11/18 and that was the only time they lost by more than 10 points all season They are also 26-1 on the season when scoring 100 or more points Good job Danny
January 28, 201015 yr On a side note, Lebron has signed a multi-year deal with McDonalds. Still no multi-year deal with the Cavs though yet... ;) http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wirestory?id=9687317&page=1 Dwight Howard is currently getting $3 million a year from McDonalds, so I'm guessing Lebron will be earning a little more than that. Just a guess.
January 28, 201015 yr I rolled the dice with LeBron re-signing and renewed my season tickets early for next year...I was able to upgrade to better seats in a similar section and get them for this year's playoffs (and next year's season). Lebron is definately worth the price of admission! And if all else fails, I can at least say I had decent seats for the 2010 playoff run!
January 28, 201015 yr He's going to resign. I feel confident in that and am going to renew myself. If I had to guess, it will be another 3 yr contract with a player option for a 4th yr. He will be 28 when it expires and still have all the options he could want.
February 7, 201015 yr Cavs win yet again, Ohio's only winning team right now is on a rampage! We are luvin the King!
February 8, 201015 yr Yeah, they are really on a roll lately. I just hope this isn't their peak... Fingers crossed that they have even better games in the not so distant future. Considering they started 0-2... and they only have 9 losses since, that is pretty amazing.
February 8, 201015 yr I hope this isn't a peak either....but you gotta remember, we're still doing this without Mo and Delonte!
February 8, 201015 yr I hope this isn't a peak either....but you gotta remember, we're still doing this without Mo and Delonte! Good point, that is even more amazing. This might sound odd, but I hope things keep clicking when they are reinserted into the lineup. It seems like there can be a readjustment period when players come back from injury. There is probably a little rust to be knocked off.
February 9, 201015 yr On a side note, Lebron has signed a multi-year deal with McDonalds. Still no multi-year deal with the Cavs though yet... ;) http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wirestory?id=9687317&page=1 Dwight Howard is currently getting $3 million a year from McDonalds, so I'm guessing Lebron will be earning a little more than that. Just a guess. that reminds me of a funny story, bill russell's contract used to come up after wilt chamberlin and he would automatically get a new contract that was one cent more. so then every time they played he would ride him, "i make more money than you do wilt!"
February 12, 201015 yr Video of McLovin trying to make it to Dallas but the whole thing is him in Cleveland. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Km2V5yfhdV0
February 15, 201015 yr Cool Lebron James vid someone put together, added some Jay-Z and posted it on YouTube last week....... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
February 15, 201015 yr That is cool. After seeing that, it looks like Lebron should take a cue from his Nike Muppet and visit the barber shop! I watched a little bit of the All-Star game tonight. The court looked so tiny in that stadium... it seemed pretty ridiculous. I wonder how the view was from the nosebleed section... I hope they remembered their binoculars.
February 15, 201015 yr Video of McLovin trying to make it to Dallas but the whole thing is him in Cleveland. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Km2V5yfhdV0 I liked some of the comments as much as I enjoyed the video. They reminded me just how funny Superbad really was. Especially the one about having one name like Seal.
February 15, 201015 yr I initially thought it was a smokescreen to make Washington give up Jamison and/or Indy give up Murphy without us including JJ in the package... basically as a straight salary dump for Z (who would be waived and re-signed by us in 30 days). Both Washington and Indy want/need to dump those contracts. Their GMs might even have firm directives from the owners to do so. If Ferry could convince them that he could have Amare for the same package they are asking for either of those two, he would gain some leverage because there would no incentive not to make that deal over the other two. Amare is younger and more athletic than either Jamison or Murphy. Ferry and Kerr and old buddies and teammates, and I figured Kerr was agreeable to this smokescreen because it would increase his bargaining power with Philly and Miami over Stoudamire. That was my kneejerk reaction to the news. I could be wrong. I certainly would welcome Stoudamire as an addition to this club, especially if all we are essentially giving up is Hickson.
