The Land has been one of the nicknames for Cleveland since the mid-90s at least, specifically within the Black Community and within Hip-Hop culture. That along with C-Town, which more people may be fa

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

whos?

first windhorst said there were a lot of nba execs and agents who he says are adament that he is not going there.  then ric bucher rattled off like 5 in a row.

This argument about market size is silly.  Sure Cleveland and Miami are similar in a lot of ways, but one is growing and one is stagnant.  And one has an international cache (Miami) that the other does not.  I love Cleveland, but I do feel that Miami is a market upgrade (though not nearly on par with New York or Chicago).  Miami is more of a "global city" than Cleveland.

Did you notice that Detroit and Columbus made the list, but not Cleveland? I bet they factor in population of the city proper.

And I'm shocked that Dallas made the list but not Austin.

With the criteria they seem to use, Cleveland blows many of those cities out of the water, especially with respect to cultural, educational, and financial institutions. Of course, now that Jones Day and Ernst & Young have taken their "headquarters" plaques off their downtown buildings and shipped them to D.C. and N.Y., respectively, I suppose it's much harder for an outsider to really see what's going on in this city.

And I need to set in my obligatory flame on Miami. I lived there for a year, and it was awful, awful, awful. The whole place is nothing but strip mall and traffic. I was so relieved to finally see some diverse urban character and non-crabgrass whenever I would make it back to CLE. And you can't even go outside for half the year, not even with a coat!

I'm not sure what that mean, but JD HQ is Cleveland.

Can we not start with "pity party"?!

Well Miami heat stopped ticket sales as season tickets sales went thru the roof.

I doesn't look good.

ESPN's Wendy Nix is at RJ Bolands right now...giving live updates to Sportscenter

^That is awesome.

Miami is/was going to sell tickets either way, after all they just re-signed Wade and landed Bosh.

Anyone know if this is going to air live online?  I don't have access to ESPN3's content.

I'll be listening on 850 AM.

Twitter, facebook, myspace are expected to blow up and overload when the announcement is made.

Its the end of the world....these are the end of times!

That's why I'm listening on the radio. Figure that won't blow up. ;)

Better keep a blast shield on hand just in case.

Na, myspace will be ok.  This will be good for myspace, when the others blow up everyone will have to return to their abandoned pages.

9:20..... I thought we were supposed to know by now?  Bahhh... they are just saying the same stuff they have been spewing all day.

850 AM just reported it as "official" that he's going to Miami.

Oy

Whether or not he stayed here, Miami was the wrong choice.

Good, let him get lost...now lets get on with life.  And by the way, this should say mountains about this person's class/integrity/sense of intrinsic value, or lack thereof. Should not have placed him so high on a pedestal...the true nature shines through! Let this be a lesson to not build life and economies around crap like this.

So he DID kick Cleveland on national TV.  Classy

i hope he suffers greatly

Damn...

Are you youngin's starting to see why I stopped investing emotionally into sports 20 years ago? I pay attention to what's going on but I don't "let it in" anymore. Players, teams, etc. will walk away from you without a care. I learned to return the favor.

Thats my dad

I hope Miami is the 2004 Lakers.

i say we have a big event downtown this weekend where everybody brings there lebron jerseys and we have a huge bonfire.

Not worth wasting those minutes of my life!

haha true

Awsome idea!!!

I can take this or leave it and am not overly into it...But this note to LeBron is dedicated to all that are loyal fans and supporters...

This has caused a lot of pain, tension, and grief for many honest loyal people. The good forces in the universe will set straight this sort of thing because its simply not right. It is selling out, pure and simple, no matter how it is sugarcoated/rationalized. It is untrue and lies must be atoned for sooner or later. You simply don't do things like this to people and not have it come back some way and smack you in the face. It all relates to the cycle of balance in the universe, something much bigger than LeBron.

Go on and take your little hip hop brat rats with you... your legacy here is finished..and you will never be welcomed again, you can count on it! Classless, tasteless, selfish, egotistical, immature, and a host of other adjectives that apply. Fans really need to take a stand on this.

Miami fans welcoming this is the same as welcoming a cheating partner into your life, knowing full well someone was really hurt and a home wrecked in the process. Such sends the message that it is OK to treat people this way. So, if fans really wanted to make a stand, they would join together across the land and protest this... and I would not want him on my team knowing he did this to a city that has supported him through thick and thin. He quit on us...not the other way around, let's get that straight!

Money cannot buy class... you have it or you don't. LeBron, you have proven what you are really all about....AND on national TV? Amazing!

There are so many stories of him being an asshole so i guess i should have seen it coming.

Looks like Art has Company.

The cavs season ticket sales are going to take a hard hit.

The only reason I wanted him to stay was so that we would have energy downtown during Cavs games.  Hopefully we can build a new team and continue that.  On the plus side, I'll be able to afford tickets once again.

I didn't want to say too much about it before I knew he was gone because I knew I might have to root for the team he played for if he stayed, but his attitude has been getting worse and worse the last couple of years.  I was starting to lose pride in having him play for us with his stupid antics and cockiness during games.  This shameless self-promotion 1 hour TV special capped it off for me.  How could you root for someone that would do something so dumb?  I almost feel liberated that he's gone and now we can hopefully assemble some guys worth rooting for.

I didn't expect LeBron to stay with the Cavs. Players get traded and move all the time. Shaq left The Lakers and even Michael Jordan played for The Wizards.

Shaq and Jordan left after their prime.  LeBron could have done this in a more classy and professional manner. Not on live fuckin' TV.

I'm not upset hes leaving, its the way it was done.  It was blowing up a bridge to know return.

This adds even more invitation for excuses to have negative images of Cleveland.... (yes, even though this has nothing to do personally with Cleveland) The repercussions of this are long and deep.... I will have some silver linings to talk about soon, but first let me vent the disgust!

Okay, did all forms of TV just crash here?  My cable is out, and my over-the-air channels are dead too!

You know what is CRAZY, I was with my buddy out a week or so ago in Boston and we met these girls, one of them was a waitress at a local place in Feniuel Hall here in Boston.  I told her I was from Cleveland and she proceeded to tell me that she waited a table of 8 of his, by herself and was given a $2 tip on a $500+ tab.  I told her I didn't believe it because I didn't.  I couldn't even fathom that a guy who talks about coming from nothing yada yada would piss on people that are working to afford college and or provide for their families... I didn't believe it because I guess I did not want to... after tonight I want to find that girl and apologize for not taking her word.  WOW

^^ I've heard similar horror stories from servers.

Hate to say I told you so, but...  I just hope Gilbert can rebuild the team, perhaps one that doesn't shake hands for 15 minutes in pre-game, do the river dance during games, signal goosies, shoot left-handed free throws in playoff games...

Hopefully our new star won't wear Yankees hats to Indians playoff games, or wear Dallas Cowboy jersey's to Browns games in Cleveland.

Anyway, Gilbert and the Cavs organization need fan support now more than ever while they rebuild this thing.  Now's not the time to canx season tickets or otherwise stop supporting the team.

^^^^ Was she cute? Get her number too!  :-o

8 Titles...good points!

Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....

Dan Gilbert

Majority Owner
