They could still be fun. Where are your seats?

I agree.  I'm actually MORE excited to watch the Cavs this year.  The regular season feels more like a challenge than a going-through-the-motions required exercise like the past couple seasons.  Besides, I think it'll be fun to (hopefully) watch some real basketball instead of Lebron dribbling the shot clock down to 4 then either scoring or trying one of his "amazing passes".

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

So, who do we want off the team? I have to buy a new jersey for my son, and my track record with sports jerseys in general so far has been impeccable. Within 1 season, the player represented by the jersey I buy is traded, leaves of their own volition, is a bust, or some combination of the three

Any takers?

Jamison. Not enough bang for the buck and he plays the same position as JJ. Hopefully, we can parlay (sp?) his contract and our trade exception into a nice piece.

I think we need Jamison's ability to score from the outside. JJ has shown no ability whatsoever to do this. I think a versatile 4 man is more important than a big 4 man on this year's team.

JJ's been working hard if the off season on improving his jump shot. He looked good in the preseason and was shooting a high percentage from the line.

I agree!

And btw...LBJ...give some of your NIKE endorsement money back to the exploited sweatshop slaves who made the shoes or they'll dust the insides of them with itching powder!

^JJ's looked really good since the summer league.  I think he has the potential to have a fantastic year.

I don't fool myself into believing that the absence of LBJ will make the games more exciting.  That said, the anxiety of "all or nothing" is definitely gone.  So I get your point about the regular season and how it was simply going through the motions on the way to the playoffs..... where, once there, it was either win it all or utter failure.

I don't necessarily mean that the games will be more exciting, but just that I am personally more excited for the regular season.  I think I like rooting for the underdog.  I find myself flipping through college football games looking for the unranked team sticking it to the top 10 team.

Anybody going to the game tomorrow?

I sold my tickets for a whopping $12.50 on ebay.  Pathetic.  $12.50 for opening night against the Celtics.  I can only imagine what I'm going to get for a Tuesday night against Sacramento...$4,000 down the drain...

Jesus you're pessimestic....why did you by the tickets if you didnt want to go to the games?

I didn't think this needed to be explained, but OK.

I renewed my season tickets from last year to ensure playoff tickets.  I thought LeBron would stay, but even if he left, I at least though I could sell the games I couldn't go to for close to face value.  It's tough to make all home games anyway, and even tougher to motivate yourself to go to every home game when the team is only average at best.

However when you can't sell opening night tickets against a premiere team in the league for more $6.25 (that retail between $41 - $60 depending on who they are playing) you quickly realize you're going to eat most, if not all, of the games you can't go to.  And since I have a 3 week old baby at home, getting out to Cavs games isn't as easy as it was.

But if you're pumped and optimistic for this year's Cavs, feel free to PM me - I have tickets for sale!  Sec 228, row 8, seats 12 & 13 (on the aisle).

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend".  Cant believe i found myself rooting for the celtics.  The hatred i had for them over the past three years was enormous...i guess inside i just hate Lebron that much more.

^ same here.....now i'll be rooting for kobe to win the mvp. strange.

I'm really excited about the season. Hopefully, we can move past the Decision. I'm getting tired of talking about it. Good Morning America spent five minutes talking about LeBron's new commercial this morning. Of course, D.L. Hughley had to make a few stale Cleveland jokes before making his point. This is why I'm ready to move on.

Woohoo!

Hell yeah. That felt good

Wooooooooooooooooo!

Yes it did!

Just got back from the game. def had a playoff atmosphere.....insane energy from the crowd. Cant wait to see where this season goes.

no, no, no...Kevin Durant is who you want to root for.

The new floor design at the Q is also pretty cool.

I like the new floor design too.  During the game tonight my wife said the Cavs last jerseys looked dated, kind of 90's.  She approved of the new ones too.

What a game!!

I'm so excited about this season. Byron Scott is a great coach and he can get the most from this talented roster.

What irks me, though, are the comments from ESPN, etc. predicting that the Cavs will win 15-20 games this season. That's an insult to the coach and the players.

Anyway, Cavs will have to prove them wrong. Go Cavs!!!!

Since that proverbial monkey on our back is behind us. Let's get on with the season. I really enjoyed last night's game. This group is exciting to watch and the they are ball hawks on D. I like what Scott is getting out of them already .

What last night's win  means to me is the Cavs can compete with any team in the league on any given night which pretty much guarantees us a winning season. I'll take it. We are not a 60 win team, especially with Boston, Miami and Orlando in the East but hey we were the last two years and see where that got us....

Damn, what a relief.

Onward...

In many respects, this was much more interesting to watch because I got to see some players start to show their abilities, rather than have everyone wait until 4 sec on the clock and then "He Who Shall Not Be Named" drive the ball in.

Andy V was a witch last night. Literally, he was everywhere the ball was.

Did you see that blind pass he had in the 2nd around the celtic player to Sessions or moon? in the corner for the three? I couldn't believe my eyes.

That game was very important in so many ways. Great win!

I was so happy for all our players who have been in the shadows or otherwise ignored by the rest of the sports "experts" in recent years. I think this is a great opportunity for young talented players like J.J. Hickson, Ramon Sessions and Jamario Moon to get playing time and flourish. Maybe Booby Gibson too. Stalwarts like Antwan Jamison, Mo Williams, Andy Varejao and Anthony Parker can still play great and not be overlooked anymore either. This is their opportunity.

BTW, I didn't see why Jamison wasn't in last night's game. He wasn't on the inactive roster.

Jamison was there... he played 20 invisible minutes.  His play was the only thing I was disapointed with last night.

I had no idea Jamison played.

Like I said upthread, Jamison might be the odd man out... if we can find a 'taker' at the deadline.  His trade value will probably be in the dumps by then, though.

I have to admit, JJ Hickson is a better player than I thought he would ever become.  He's really starting to grow up, both mentally and physically.  He'll be fun to watch if him hitting those jumpers last night was no fluke.  His first step is beyond fast.

I'm thinking 40+ wins.  We just have too many above average NBA players to be as bad as some experts are predicting.  Some of those players are really going to come out of their shell the more they take on a bigger role.  Boobie is one to watch there, for sure.  He was solely a spot up shooter with LBJ on the court.  Now, he will be a key compenent of the offense and this offensive system fits his skill set perfectly IMO.

On an unrelated note, I really wish we could have closed the deal with Shannon Brown this summer.  Or better yet, I wish we could have made that deal in '08 without including him.  The kid is looking REAL good this year.

I've been watching the game and Andy is crazy busy, but he's always been a work horse, right?

That was a nice!

Sessions, Boobie, and Jamison coming off the bench....not too shabby for a team predicted to win 30 games in most Vegas casinos.

30-40 wins was not a dis' to the Cavs in my opinion.  Look at the wins by the non elite teams in the WEAK Eastern Conference over the past decade, there are teams with 40 or less wins who have made the playoffs.

I would rather the Cavs be listed as losers, make the playoffs and win a first round series.

The Cavs have NOTHING to lose and EVERYTHING to gain.  Where as Boston, Miami, Orlando and to some degree Chicago have to live up to some mighty high expecations.

If Miami doesn't win it all this year, and at least 2 or 3 times in the next four years, the "Big 3" will be labeled a massive fail.

...but they beat the Sixers last night. Doesn't that mean they are going to win it all??? :)

Boobie has been too inconsistent. Last night was a perfect example. 0-7 shooting in the first half -- then scoring 16 in the second half. And I thought Mo Williams was uneven! I hope Boobie can become more consistent with more playing time.

Jamison was invisible until late in the 4th quarter when he made two important baskets, both on his patented one handed runners while going right.  What we need out of him, though, is ti hit the outside jumper.

I have been saying for months that I am excited to watch this team play since I anticipated they'd have 5 guys on offense rather than 1.5 (one dribbling for 20 seconds and another just in case he decided to pass with 4 seconds left on the shot clock).  I can't wait for Mo to come back.  I'd like to see him and Sessions on the floor at the same time sometimes.

Sessions was disappointing, he was somewhat of a ball hog last night, 4 turnovers, and 6-15 shooting.

Gibson needs to improve his shooting, 4-14 is not good.

Hickson definitely improved his shooting, he looked great!

One thing I noticed is that the team, especially Sessions and Gibson, since they will be handling it the most, need to work on passing.

Its one game, calm down....did you watch any preseason games? Sessions and Boobie were both solid.

I think turn overs and not executing in the red zone is something the team will need to work on.

Im an still super excited about the game, they looked good. Just some things I thought they could work on. Sessions was being somewhat of a ball hog that game.

14 turnovers is too many!  :whip:

Where is the "red zone" in basketball?

Oh Laaaaaawd, I've merged basketball and football.  :x

So our left fielder needs to execute in the red zone so we don't have to get into so many face-offs?  Got it.  I'll try to relay to Byron.

The average TOs for an NBA team over the course of a season usually ranges from 11 to 16.  I'm not too worried about 14 TOs in the first game.

^amen brother.

"handling" the ball is in various forms as you state, I didnt mean dribbling alone.

Dirty!

Laaaaaawd!

BTW, What was up with all the 3 second violations?

Split off messages that had less to do with the Cavs and more to do with general NBA discussion, and placed them in the thread for the latter topic. Carry on, Cavs fans.

So far this game, Sessions is 1-10 with 5 turnovers. That is not what we need.
