Yeah the pick is unprotected.  Everything I've read seems to say that the Clippers got the best of this deal, but from my perspective, Davis and Williams are a wash talent-wise.  So we basically got a lottery pick in exchange for Jamario Moon and a bit of cap room.  Fine by me!

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

Not to damper the mood..... but this year's draft is kinda weak and some prospects might be hesitent to declare given the CBA unrest.  I would have been happier with Minny's unprotected 2012 pick, which the clippers hold.  I still like the deal though

I agree that the draft is weak, but I think a little extra salary obligation for next year is worth the gamble of finding something in the lottery.

It's an okay deal. Williams and Moon weren't going to do anything big here.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them do significantly better with the Clippers.

Weak draft or not, we just improved our lottery odds. I like that. And hey, the Clippers could tank the rest of the season.

The Cavs should be far enough under the cap next year that taking on Davis's salary won't matter.  I guess it works out for both teams, but I think the Clippers were a little lax in just giving up a lottery pick and not improving their talent.  Unless they can use the cap space to get one of the 2012 guys, it's not gonna be worth it for the Clips.  They do have a metric sh!t-ton of cap space in 2012, though.

So happy with this trade.

Mo is weakminded, injury prone, and has a decent chunk of change left on his contract. For the Cavs to turn that into a top 10 pick, albeit in a weak draft, is excellent. Not only that, but Baron is a guy who only cares when he's on a winning team. The Cavs are awful so he won't care at all next year.....which results in another top 4 pick for Cleveland! Rebuilds are fun.

Maybe the Basketball Gods will be on the Cavs side this summer resulting in them winning the lottery and the Clips pick falling at #2 or #3. Or the Clips win the lottery and the Cavs get 2, 3 or 4. Either would be nice haha.

Now they just have to move Parker for hopefully another pick.

The Cavs are probably done making moves for the moment (unless they can flip Davis somehow).  I wouldn't be surprised if they added another pick after the season using the trade exception, though.

I think if the Bulls or the Celtics make the right offer, Parker will be moved before the deadline.

The thought of dealing with Boston and Chicago makes me ill.  I guess we're living in different times, though.

Exactly.  If it puts them in a better position to beat the Heat in a 7 game series...... Gilbert might jump at that chance.  But seriously, Parker is a FA at the end of this year.  If you can get a pick for him now, then why not?

Keep an eye on Jamison possibly going to GSW as well for either Biedrins or Murphy.  Murphy would be bought out most likely upon arrival if he was the player returned.

Beans is awful, so glad he's not coming to Cleveland.

This deadline has been insane, by far the most exciting one ever. Presti just raped Boston and Morey is pulling off some impressive moves for the Rockets too.

I heard we just got two big men from Boston for our 2013 2nd round pick.  I believe we have Miami's first rounder that year, so not a big loss.  Luke Harengody and Semih Erden.  Probably has nothing to do with the Cavs giving up 17 boards to a 6-6 center last night ;)

Yep its official

Cavs waive Leon Powe

That Boston deal was way out there.

For people who missed it, Cavs beat the Knicks. Thats got to be pretty disappointing for Carmelo

And ESPN. I get tired of them portraying the Knicks as their hometown team.

Yeah.  I tried to catch the highlights on Sportscenter and all the clips and talk was all Knicks until the very last second when they showed Boobie's 3 pointer at the end.  Oh well.... I guess other teams had to deal with that for 7 years whenever they played us....

In the spirit of east coast bias, something is just not right.

And the Knicks lose to the Cavs again tonight! We have our 12 wins, we'll see you next year!

That was fun to watch.

Harongody, by himself, was worth a 2nd round pick.

Baron and Sessions look like they are going to be able to mesh for 15-20 mins a night and at least one of them on the floor at all times.

Jamison going down is going to give us a real good look at some of these youngsters up front.

That's hilarious. I'll bet the Knicks foamers at ESPN are ready to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge. Happy landings!

can he heal and come back or is jamison rilly out for the season?

I think they'll shut him down for the season.  It was a minimum of a 5 week injury and no sense bringing him back for just a few games.  It gives the young guys (Samuels, Harongody, Erden) more of a chance to show what they got.  The most important thing to do from here on out is evaluate what you should keep going into next season.  That is why you are seeing a lot of the young guys rotate in and out of the starting lineup.  I expect to see Erden at starting C for at least a few games, but if Samuels keeps up his play as of late that might be hard to justify.

  • 3 weeks later...

Joe and TJ are now frequenting Monsters games as well.

^ Well since they aren't allowed to study the playbook it's good to see they are keeping busy and out of trouble :)

It's nice to see these two truly embracing the city that drafted them instead of expressing indifference or just giving lip service. Funny thing is Haden had never been to a NBA prior to arriving in Cleveland, now he is the Cleveland Jack Nicholson. It's also nice to see Joe  using his over-sized personality positively, unlike some past Brown's draft picks...

I've been high on him for some time now.  What worries me is the fact that he's a bit of a 'tweener and may have trouble guarding his position (either 3 or 4) at the next level.  Kid is a baller, though.  If they can grab him or Barnes and throw in a PG like Irving, Knight, or Walker, I'd be happy.  Really all depends on how the ping pong balls bounce.  Picking 1st and 7th or 8th would be nice.

He's a 3 in the NBA.  A good one too.  In a dead sprint, the kid beat Nolan Smith down the floor for a loose ball and lay'd it in.  That's all I needed to see.  I don't buy the knock on his lateral quickness.  It could be better, but it is plenty sufficient.  Plus, he shot like 60% from the arc.  Very intriguing.

Kyrie is still my #1 though.  I just won't be as disappointed if we don't get him as I would have been a few weeks ago, given the show we have seen at the tourney.  This draft is nowhere near as weak as everybody was saying it was going to be.  There are 4-5 International bigs that might find their way into the lottery as well.

Kemba certainly deserves a look.  Kid is a winner.  But he is the one with whom I have concerns about his position.  He plays off the ball too well to be a pure PG.  He's almost like Earl Boykins +8 inches, which is scary if you think about it.

If we could have just avoided that one long stretch the wins against Boston, LA, NY, and now Miami would have really sustained me this whole season.

That was a fun game!

I'll take that!

Two top ten picks...gotta be Irving and Barnes.  They remind me of Rose and Durant.  Look for Lighty and or Norris Cole in the second round.

Great game! Imagine what their record would be if they put forth this effort every night...You only get as your work deserves - JT

Lets get Norris to stay in Cleveland.

We won?

Damn, I would like to have seen that.

It was a great game. At one point we were winning 71 to 48

And then they let Miami tie it up at 83-83.  But we went on a 12-0 run to close it out.  Great win.  I've never seen Hollins or Parker play that well.  The stars aligned, I guess.

I saw the highlights on ESPN. I wonder if the game will be replayed sometime tonight?

EDIT: it's on Fox Sports right now at 12:35 a.m.

Damn that felt good. It meant nothing but it felt good. I wonder who was playing center under that rubber Ryan Hollins Scooby Doo mask, because it sure wasn't the same Hollins that I saw play all year?

"Jinkies! it's old man Smithers!"

I let my 6 yo stay up and watch the game to the end. It originally was supposed to be a few minutes after bath time, but then we turned it on with about 11 min left in the third. Once he saw the Davis to Gee alley-oop, there was no going to bed.

I got to see it on replay last night. Although I'm a little tired today, that was satisfying to see. And that game will be one of the last tastes in the mouths of the Cavs and their fans from this otherwise awful season. So even though it doesn't make a big difference in the standings/playoff races, it is a huge game going into the off-season.

Barnes probably has more upside than Williams, but I don't see Barnes falling into the 7th-8th pick range. We take Irving with top pick no questions I believe.

Due to last night's victory, the Heat won't make it to 60 wins..... something the 'talentless' Cavs were easily able to do the past two years.

I still can't get my mind (the basketball part) off of Perry Jones.  Seven footers who run and ballhandle like that are few and far between.

Hollins has gotten a lot of crap this year, but I was never sure why we didn't settle on him as the starting center immediately after Andy went down. He's soft, but how is he going to get tougher unless you give him a chance? He was decent in the beginning of the year, and he had a ridiculous +33 statline last night. Anyway, good game.

Joe Haden's Baron Davis beard from last night. I love this kid...
