Finnan -- @BobCavsinsider: Source: Cleveland Cavaliers have not offered Andrew Wiggins in possible trade with Minnesota Timberwolves http://t.co/8kk40E3KCA

I wonder if Bob realizes how he was used by Minny on this one. Sounds like someone from the Cavs set him straight

"@WojYahooNBA: Cleveland's searching league for non-guaranteed contracts that potentially could be included in a bigger deal later, sources tell Yahoo."

Can someone explain to me how this might play out?

One source familiar with Cavs-TWolves talks described them this way: "It's getting real."

TWolves G Kevin Martin and C/F Gorgui Dieng are other names that have come up in talks with Cavs about Kevin Love, sources say.

#Cavs have three No. 1 picks in 2015: Own, Grizzlies and Heat's. If #Cavs give up two of them with Wiggins/Bennett, deal gets done, IHMO.

Chris Sheridan ‏@sheridanhoops  now

Seems the Wolves are leaking Bulls, Nuggets interest. Trying to drive up bids. #Cavs threat to sign Wiggins on Wed. is deal pusher, too.

This is the smaller deal Cavaliers have been pursuing in recent days to try and roll into the larger scope deal with Minnesota.

Minnesota's been determined to unload Kevin Martin and JJ Barea in a Love deal -- no easy task for Cavs to make work without a third team.

Bob Evans ‏@TheRealBobEvans  39s

If Minny agrees to instantly cut Varejao's partially guaranteed contract...thus allowing him to re-sign with CLE, deal makes sense.

I would be ecstatic if we got both Love and Dieng.  The latter is just a bonus, but he has the potential to fill a huge hole on this team IMO..... Which is why I tossed his name out there last week.

Not sure what "the Real Bob Evans" is talking about.  We don't have the cap space to re-sign Andy even if Minny agreed to cut him. He won't be part of any deal

Dieng's a nice unpolished gem for the bench.

whats our starting lineup with k love on the team? Does this make dion a starter?

Assuming he stays, Dion is a starter I'd think. Wiggins wouldn't start at the two.  Griff said if Wiggins 'finds greatness' it would be at the two, but also said he is not ready offensively to play that position. His handles have a LONG way to go, as I've been saying since before the draft.  I see a lineup in which Blatt uses his rotations to make sure either LBJ, Dion, or Kyrie is on the floor at all times initiating the offense

Kyrie

Dion

LeBron

KLove

Andy

And we win games by an average score of 125-110! ;)

That's a killer lineup. Who is going to outrebound Love/Varejao/James?

There's a rumor of a three-team deal with Philadelphia very interested in Waiters.

To KJP's point about winning games 125-110.  I think you will all be surprised.  Defense isnt some raw talent, its about being smart and how hard you work.  I suspect Lebron will be elevating Kyries D and im not sure about love, but if we are winning games 125-110 thats not a formula for winning a title.

Yeah, that makes me think of the Denver Broncos crazy offense.

What's the rumour?

^The one KJP referenced?  If so, just that Philly has interest in Dion and could get involved as a third team in the Kevin Love trade talks.  The CBA rules require teams to meet certain minimum salary requirements.  I believe it is something like 90% of the cap.  Philly is so far under the cap, that it actually needs contracts and would be able to absorb some of the bad contracts Minny wants to unload, such as Kevin Martin and JJ Barea.  Philly can take in more money than it sends out in a trade because it is something like $35mill under the cap.  The thought is that Dion would have to be included to entice Philly and it is no secret Dion loves his hometown and would also probably like playing for a team where he was more of a focus of the offense.  I am not so sure that Philly would/should want him.  'Going home' might not be the best scenario for Dion at this point in his career.  That said, him and MCW would compliment each other nicely in the backcourt.

It might be a bluff.  There is no way that Chicago would want to see Love in Cleveland. But if Minnesota has told them it is inevitable, it would be in their best interest to try and float this rumor to make the Cavs give up as many assets as Minnesota demands. I am not even sure how Chicago would split the minutes between Kevin love, Pau Gasol, and Joakim Noah.  On the other hand, no team has ever complained about having too many quality Biggs.

Does Jason Biggs come from a large basketball family?

Yep, the one KJP referenced. Thanks for filling in the blanks.

RT @WindhorstESPN: #cavs officially signed Andrew Wiggins today to a deal starting at $5.5 million. He cannot be traded for 30 days. #NBA

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

The trade cannot be 'official' (i.e. paperwork submitted to the league) for 30 days.  There is nothing preventing a deal being made 'in principle.'  It's like on draft night when a team drafts a player and trades him later in the draft.  Technically, that trade can not be official for 10 days because you can't trade a guy you just drafted for 10 days, but it happens every year.

Exactly. In fact, I think this strengthens the Cavs hand. And it might even make a trade to Minnesota more likely because now Wiggins is a bonafide NBA product.

Consider this article/analysis how trading various players including Love gets the Cavs to meet salary cap requirements even those we'd be slightly over the cap.....

People chatting about a "conspiracy theory" that the deal actually is already done. Probably just more random ESPN chatter.

This may be a case where if a deal isn't done, both GM's will be doing their teams a disservice. Again, virtually everyone in the media is saying "do this!" It just makes a lot of sense.

It doesn't make sense to give into Minny's every demand, especially if it involves giving up Wiggins AND taking back bad contracts, if Kevin Love is telling other interested teams (as Steven A. Smith reported this morning) that he won't sign long-term with them.  If KLove is privately saying he will only sign long term with us, then Minny doesn't have the leverage it is posturing as having.

Certainly. And it makes sense for the the Wolves to wait this out.

I don't know if I agree.  The longer the Wolves wait, the more they will burn whatever leverage they do have.  Going into the season with KL on the roster will be a PR nightmare for them.  It will be a major distraction for their team and fanbase.  We are the ones who can afford to wait.

No they'll never start the season with Love on the roster. But there's time for a Chicago or someone to theoretically get stupid and try and outdo the Cavs.

Sure.  But, going back to my point, do you think Chicago is going to give up anything of value without any assurances from Love that he will be than just a one-year rental for them?..... particularly after what happened to LAL with Dwight Howard?  This is the state of the modern-day NBA.  Superstars, regardless if they are free agents or not, basically can dictate which team(s) they can be traded to.

Sure. While Love said he'd resign with Cavs, he never said that was the only team. And heck, would he really resign with Cleveland? We don't know. Just because he said it doesn't mean it'll happen.

I am not saying the report is true, but see what I mentioned above about was SAS said this morning.  If true, that is HUGE.

Trust me on this.  The Cavs will NOT trade for KLove without an assurance that he is not opting out of his deal next summer, as he has told Minny he will do.  In fact, I would be surprised if the Cavs traded for him if he did not agree to sign a new extension.

^^ based on all the rumblings...i would say YES he has made Cleveland his favorite now and YES he would resign.  And we can probably thank Lebron for that. There were rumors and rumblings that Kevin Love was in NE Ohio last weekend and Lebron was showing him around.  If the greatest player on the planet looks you in the eyes and says even if you dont want to be in NE Ohio, come here make a ton of money and lets win some rings and then you can go back to Cali and live there...only a moron would not listen to that.

Unless Minnesota panicks at some point and makes a bad trade, I just don't see Chicago/GoldenState having the assets to do the deal. To make it work they would both have to decimate their roster, and give up too many pieces. We have the pieces/draft picks/expired contracts to make it happen. IMO we hold the cards.

My point is that WE don't know yet what assurances there are or aren't. That's all. For all we know Love could want to go long term with Boston or Chicago or Golden State.

Define "we"

I believe the SAS report was provided on First Take this morning.

^ WE...you know, white people.

My thinking is that the Minnesota isn't receiving great offers from anybody else.  If they were, Love would have been traded by now.  I also agree with Hts that the cavs shouldn't give into Flip's every demand just because the national media says they should.  The cavs are in an advantageous situation; they can either trade for an all-star or groom their own all-star.  The wolves are just trying to minimize the damage from losing Love.

I have never heard of a team that was in the driver's seat once it has been known that their star player wants out.  Usually they unload the player for pennies on the dollar
