I don't know if this has already been addressed anywhere, but how can the Cleveland area transit system possibly handle a million people coming in at one time? Say even half that, assuming the rest drive--which obviously probably isn't be feasible either. (I think 1.5 million commuters come into Manhattan every day which overwhelms the most extensive transit network in the country)

There won't be many commuters so that should help.  My downtown employer is closed tomorrow, probably most others too.

  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

I hope it's just a rumor, but a friend said he heard that the City of Cleveland forgot to order portable toilets for tomorrow... Yikes!

Seriously ???? And there is no company in NEO who can come to the rescue.

Man, maybe I should try to get a city job...

This thing kinda sounds like it's being planned from the seat of one's pants.  You'd think that, from the time the Cavs QUALIFIED for the Finals, plans would be in the works on a contingency.  For the Cavs and their fan's standpoint, obviously I hope it all works out.  The weather is supposed to be excellent.

As someone noted a couple days ago, I sure wish they could have opened Public Square.  It appears most of the work is finished and who cares if the restaurant isn't open, in our compact downtown with this many people there's going to be an acute need of space.  The rally is going to be on the adjacent Mall plazas.

Monsters will get a bus/float tomorrow:

We will have porta potties. @ClevelandWater will have a buggy to keep you hydrated enough to use them. Please bring reusable water bottles!

RTA can't handle anywhere close to 1 million. Not anymore. It's a small-city public transit system. If every 10 minutes each way they run 3-car Red Line trains that carry 500 people each, that's 6,000 people per hour or just 18,000 people spread over several hours. If they run trains every 5 minutes (and they can), they can bump that up to 36,000. The Blue and Green lines can carry only about one-fourth as many people as the Red Line. The HealthLine and CSU Line can cram about 70 people per bus and run every 5-10 minutes, carrying about 4,000 riders total in three hours before the parade. The other RTA bus routes, including the freeway expresses from the suburban park-n-rides, have far less capacity than the rail and BRT lines. At most, the entire system can be expected to handle about 75,000 to 100,000 people total. Laketran and Akron Metro are running extra buses but they're far more limited in their capacity than what RTA offers.

If you don't live near a transit line, drive to a parking lot in Ohio City, the Muny lot, or the eastern edges of CSU/Midtown and walk the rest of the way into downtown.

I live within walking distance to Lee/Shaker stop on Green line, but I'm worried the trains will be completely full as they come by the stop and won't have room for us.

If a jammed full train goes west, then board the next eastbound. Buy a day pass from the operator and ride east to Green Road and then turn back west. Might even get a seat.

Get on one of the trains heading east

It's a city holiday, but the people the city can tell to take off, they won't....    #ThisIsCle

My buddy just drove in from Youngstown to find no parking left at the east side rapid stations and a three hour wait to get on a train

The area around the blue line at Warrensville/Farnsleigh was just a sea of cars, spilling into the neighborhoods, when I left for work at arountd 8:30 this morning.

I heard 3 hours to get on the rapid as well. I drove in at my usual time (6:50am) and it was very difficult once you got close to downtown. People were parking and walking from Scranton for goodness sake. I am sick and only came in to get my computer so I could bring it home and work from here but it was very slow going and so many people.

I don't know anyone who closed their business. mine certainly didn't. Everyone I know who was going took the day off.

I just drove in from Youngstown.  I was using UO to get updates on traffic.  I wanted to use the Rapid, but that wasn't going to happen.  So I decided I would park in a residential area in Asiatown, again, no luck.  Im on E 45th walking to downtown now.  Crazy!

Did anyone think the #cavsparade would step off on time?  They have been drinking for two days….

To anyone out of market and with access to a TV with cable, the NBA network is showing the Sports Time Ohio parade broadcast.

I'm watching Channel 3's live feed from Denver. That crowd is amazing!!! Great day for a parade!

Now who does GM LeBron want to trade/sign/draft (if he wants to draft someone this year)?

I'd just as soon let our title winning GM trust his judgement.  :)

Of course they had to use a local stations broadcast. NBAtv had he parade scheduled for Sunday.... in Oakland

Knock me over win a feather...

what an epic parade! more reports, pics and crowd estimates when anyone can do it.

and how nice that lebron said he is coming back next year so soon before the deadline, he didn't have to do that now.

i seriously doubt any clevelanders are paying any bother to outsiders right now, but the online forums have been talking smak about lebron going to the lakers or clippers and rumors of his kid being enrolled in school out there blah blah blah. sheesh.

CPD estimated 1 million at 10:30 this morning. Anthony Lima tweeted the Greater Cleveland  Sports Commission estimated 1.3 million.

Thanks! I just had a major upgrade of the screen size. So much for smart TV that has issues streaming.

Congratulations to the Cavs, but just imagine Lebron winning back-to-back world championships, then get traded to the Expos, then come back as a player/manager and break an unbreakable record, then have him get kicked out of the game for gambling on his own team and you'll get an idea what Cincinnati's relationship is with Pete Rose.

I mean, you would also have to have Lebron be an absolute asshole too. Lebron is overall really level-headed and cool. Rose was the guy everyone hated. Not because he was the best, but because he was so hard-headed and brash.

They can't even get to the rally stage area haha

Up to 1.3 million.    There are probably more people within the city limits of Cleveland than any other time in history.

I was hearing reports on the radio of 2 million.

For those hoping for pics, etc., you'll have to wait.  Supposedly, cell phones are largely inoperable at the moment due to the amount of people with handheld devices.  Cleveland broke the internet!

^The two largest events I can remember (and I happened to attend both) were the bicentennial celebration and New Year's 2000.  Neither came close to what we are seeing today.

I thought Rose signed with the Expos (not traded) after he had spent 4 or so season in Philly?  Regardless, LeBron ain't Charlie Hustle.  Very, very different people.

Btw, they replayed the radio call of the final seconds on the CavsTV stream.  Good lord that's a horrendous call for the moment.  "Unbiased" Mike Breen was better on TV.

Yes, he went to the Phillies from the Reds.

My understanding was the biggest was St. Patrick's Day 2012, the 80 degree Saturday.  Half a milllion

Official estimates seem to be listing between 1 and 1.3 million. Here's a pic from Dustin Fox:

^You can see the malls back there, also covered in a sea of humanity.

Very Stable Genius

I just sent that pic to my buddy in CLT who is a huge Panthers fan and the leader of the "Roaring Riot"

His response:  "Jesus... act like you've been there before"

I thought that was pretty good  :-D

Cleveland looks sooooooooo good with swarms of humanity!

That's my favorite picture of the day.  You feel like you can see the whole crowd there.  Nice to have wide streets on a day like this one.  Nice to have Mall B as well.  Any guesses how many people were standing on Mall B?  50k?

Regarding lebron announcing he is coming back. Not a big surprise, I think there was a small sliver he could leave for a new challenge. I could see someone as ambitious as him trying to take on another seemingly impossible thing like taking the clippers out of futility and getting to play w Paul and someone else. But that was under 5%. Lebron knows what he has with Kyrie now. Kyrie may currently be the most clutch guy in he game after what we just saw. That was shades of Kobe/paul pierce. He knows he will be able to win more rings with him by his side.

I think JR stays, I think MOZGOV is gone, hate to say it but Delly may be gone. Everyone else important is pretty much under contract.  Maybe get another reliable veteran or two to do big things when asked. Jefferson is hilarious

There were 10-40 people waiting at each stop of #55 on Clifton at 9am. Two jammed-full bendy buses passed us by. So we walked "upstream" to a lesser-used stop. Two more already full buses passed us by. A man who flew in from Houston to enjoy the parade and paid $3,000 for his flight was among those waiting with us. He called Lyft and a car showed up in 10 minutes. The driver could take three more people so my friend and I got in and paid $20 between us. There was no traffic on the Shoreway. We got downtown in 10 minutes. We walked south on West 6th to my office at Tower City, took care of some business, and began looking for a parade perch. We ended up in a vacant office on the 10th floor in the City Club building at East 9th and Euclid. There was an open window, air conditioning, bathroom, and a great view of the parade. I will post my pictures later.

We left the City Club at 2:15, walked to Tower City, positioned ourselves to to get on a #55, got seats, inched our way to the Shoeway, and arrived Lakewood at 3:40pm.

Delly is unfortunately perhaps good enough now that another team would be able to offer him more playing time than he'll get as Kyrie's backup (especially because, in crunch time, LeBron is Kyrie's backup as PG).  Would love to see him stay but would totally understand that he might be worth more to someone else.  Would miss his spirit and his post-championship shirts.

I would be truly surprised if Mozgov is here next year.

I also kind of wonder about Shumpert.  At $9.7M guaranteed for next year, he might be tough to get rid of even if we wanted to; he was solid, but I don't think we got our money's worth for him down the stretch.

^i think offensively he looked awful, but defensively you can't understate his importance, he comes in and guards a splash brother. Neither of those guys went off that entire series except Klay in game 5 first half

Curious as to why it's just named Mall B?

There are three parts the Malls. A, B, and C
