  • massive team effort & big win on espn vs okc tonight — awesome game and superb coaching and substitutions — anyway, i watched most of it out, but the end back at our dystopian atlanta hotel - 😂🎉

  • Great win! Six-and-one!! Great to see Garland and Mitchell together for a full game. Those two are going to be magical as they play together more.

Worse. The Cavs were -9 with IT on the court and even with him off it. His trade was an addition by subtraction.

In the last loss for the old Cavs roster, the 6 players traded today scored 29 points in 103 minutes, shooting 9 of 36 (25%), in Tuesday's 18-point collapse against Orlando. The non-traded Cavs scored 69 points in 139 minutes, shooting 27 of 48 (56%).

I just learned this afternoon that Larry Nance Jr. is also just a kid from Akron (though a somewhat less well known one than that other kid from Akron).

Who, Stephen Curry?

$hit I WISH Steph Curry would come home!  Please!  ;D

I just learned this afternoon that Larry Nance Jr. is also just a kid from Akron (though a somewhat less well known one than that other kid from Akron).  He went to Revere HS.  He also didn't even make varsity there until his junior year (after growing three inches and 25 pounds in the offseason, apparently).

IMO they should let him, and only him henceforth, wear his dad's #22.

How funny is the NBA.  5 days ago, the cavs entire franchise felt like a dead end, with a bad breakup with our once in a generation player from NE Ohio forthcoming.  Now, everyone feels good.  The league does a really good job getting in the news.  The drama, the pettiness, the off the court stories, etc.  Koby Altman sure did an awesome job.  Even if Lebron leaves, you now have a young team and probably a top 5 pick coming your way to build off of.  Incredible.  Its clear the Derrick Roses apathy, IT's main focus getting that max deal, and Wade all needed to go.  I've heard rumblings from certain writers that Wade off the court was completely checked out although he was bringing a certain consistency of play on the court, he was not being a leader or anything hinting it.

Losing Shumpert meant nothing and Frye, although a good player and guy, was dispensable.  Its clear that Boston does an incredible job of elevating guys to play out of their minds, like Thomas and Crowder did.  They both stink

That was clear last year when Brad Stevens led a bunch of jags to the top seed in the East before getting bounced by the only legit team (the Cavs). I think people's expectations should have been much lower for Thomas and Crowder. The trade was for Brooklyn's pick full stop.

Both of their contracts had value, with Crowder being so cheap for multiple years and Thomas expiring. Neither of the recent deals get done without those particular contract parameters. The Cavs were certainly hoping for one or both to work out but the contracts made both players attractive assets.

That's some heavy inside-basketball stuff.  Some of those terms made my head spin--the drafting and trading rulebook is mindboggling to me at times.  (Can anyone fill me on what the "repeater tax" is and how it became a dealbreaker for Cleveland in that part of the haggling?)

The Cavs pay a penalty for every dollar over the salary cap. That penalty increases every year you "repeat" being over the cap, hence the name repeater tax. The Cavs would be stuck paying Papagiannis his salary of $2.4 million and a repeater tax of $4.8 million that I think is distributed to the league. That's a ton of money for a draft bust they don't intend to keep.

cavs fall to spurs at home and spurs playing w/no leonard or ginobli. lebron plays ironman minutes and the rotating cast does little. hmm. not good. it was nice to see nance jr get to wear his dad’s number though.

It's going to take time for this new group to figure it out.

Where have we heard that before...the beginning of this season when they were always losing games in the second half?

They are 3-2 since the trade with road wins over OKC and Boston. I think they'll be ok.

The exact same record they had from October 17-25, start of the regular season.  We thought they'd be ok then as well.  I'm not feeling it.

This is an entirely different team. I'm going to give them a few weeks before I decide.

This is also their 3rd game in 4 days. I was at the game. The shooting was flat all game. They shot 23% from 3pt. You could play perfect defense and still lose if you shoot 23% from 3.

Statements from Head Coach Tyronn Lue and General Manager Koby Altman

nadams

Mar 19, 2018 10:51 AM ET

From Tyronn Lue:

"After many conversations with our doctors and Koby and much thought given to what is best for the team and my health, I need to step back from coaching for the time being and focus on trying to establish a stronger and healthier foundation from which to coach for the rest of the season.

I have had chest pains and other troubling symptoms, compounded by a loss of sleep, throughout the year. Despite a battery of tests, there have been no conclusions as to what the exact issue is.

While I have tried to work through it, the last thing I want is for it to affect the team. I am going to use this time to focus on a prescribed routine and medication, which has previously been difficult to start in the midst of a season. My goal is to come out of it a stronger and healthier version of myself so I can continue to lead this team to the Championship we are all working towards.

I greatly appreciate Dan Gilbert, Koby Altman, our medical team and the organization's support throughout."

From Koby Altman:

“We know how difficult these circumstances are for Coach Lue and we support him totally in this focused approach to addressing his health issues.”

Tristan Thompson cheating scandal rages on as Khloe Kardashian prepares to give birth

Tristan Thompson's in the dog house — even with his own fans.

The 27-year-old NBA player returned to Cleveland for his last regular season game on Wednesday night, where he was booed as he hit the court after accusations came to light that he may have been cheating on pregnant girlfriend Khloe Kardashian.

Some fans held signs in support of Kardashian, 33, who is expecting the couple's first child together.

We should have gotten rid of Tristan instead of giving him an outrageous contract.

You gotta be averaging 15 and 10 to have a side chick...

Kidding, just a scumbag move all around.

It's the second time he's done the exact same thing.  He's not only an overrated basketball player, he's a distraction to the team as well.

$85 Million.  Dan Gilbert is paying the man $85 Million.  I'd venture to say this season his play hasn't matched that amount, but what do I  know.

Not even close.  I didn't think he was worth half that even when he was playing well in previous years.

The Tristan contract was more about Lebron than it was Tristan.  He is represented by Klutch.  However, Lebron has seemed to sour on TT. He use to hype him on IG and dap him up a lot on the court, but ive seen no real interaction between the two since Tristan left his other baby momma Jordan Craig and started seeing Khloé.  Almost like Lebron didn’t respect that move and disapproved. So here we are again, and Tristan is a slime ball for the second time. Get rid of him at this point.  I have a 7 month pregnant wife right now, I couldn’t imagine her getting that kind of news during this type of emotional period

here are the nba playoff bracket deets for the cavs:

Game 6 in Indianapolis: TBA (if necessary)

Last season's playoff results: Cavaliers eliminated by Golden State Warriors in NBA Finals; Pacers swept by Cavaliers in the first round

We wouldn’t have won the ring in 2016 without Tristan. Bad on the Cavs for paying on past performance, but he used to be a very valuable player. He’s clearly lost a step, but he used to be able to switch out onto guards and was an elite offensive rebounder. Those kinds of role players get paid. Hard for the Cavs to know he’d look washed when he should be entering his ostensible prime.

When he switches out on guards it usually ends up meaning the other team scores, whether it's the mismatch with his man being guarded by one of our guards or their guard making him look silly (just because his ability to stay with a quick little guy is better than average for a big man doesn't mean it's good).  Also, you're trading a handful of offensive rebounds for no other offensive talent.  And that's not to mention how awful he is rebounding at the other end of the floor.  He's an undersized big man who has no ability to score outside of 5 feet.  His hustle maybe should have earned him $5-$8 million a year, but you shouldn't get elite money with his skill set.  Now we're paying top dollar for a guy that we can hardly keep out on the floor.  I thought this was all very predictable at the time.

That’s true this year but not the previous two years. He was an elite defender and the numbers back it up. His DBPM, VORP, and win shares were all excellent. Those defensive advanced metrics are more impressive considering his low defensive counting stats. His injuries clearly have taken a toll.

Khloe Kardashian Gives Birth to Baby Girl!! Tristan Was There

Khloe Kardashian has given birth to her first kid ... TMZ has learned.

Khloe delivered a baby girl early Thursday morning -- around 4 AM EDT -- at a hospital outside Cleveland ... according to our Kardashian sources. We're told the little girl does not have a name yet. Kourtney, Kim, Kris and Khloe's BFF Malika were by her side during the birth. Tristan Thompson was also there.

This is Khloe and the Cavaliers star's first baby together, but, of course, it comes smack in the middle of a tumultuous time for the couple.

Will Khloe Kardashian Still Live In Cleveland? She Just Had Her Baby In The Ohio City

Big news: On Thursday, April 12, TMZ reported that Khloe Kardashian gave birth to a baby girl at a Cleveland, Ohio area hospital. (Bustle reached out to Kardashian's rep for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.) But will Khloe still live in Cleveland after the birth of her child? She may not remain in the city for long, according to several reports from earlier this week.

According to TMZ, Khloe gave birth to a baby girl at a hospital outside of Cleveland at around 4 a.m. ET. TMZ reported that the baby's father, NBA player Tristan Thompson, was there, as well as Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, and Khloe's best friend Malika Haqq were there. The newborn's name has not yet been publicly announced by Khloe, nor has the birth of her daughter been officially announced or confirmed.

i'm much more of the belief that they they paid tt top dollar to keep lebron happy than for his stats.

oh god lord cleveland now has its own bonafide kardashian kid lol.

Not psyched to be the Tristan defender considering how terrible he is now, but he also got paid because he was a key contributor with a not easily replaceable skill set on a championship-wining team attempting to repeat.

Only by birth.  Khloe was moved into Cleveland, but I suspect the family will be flying her and her daughter back to LA immediately...just hoping this drama doesn't effect the Cavs playoff run.

that's a take, but even still it was not worthy of top dolla tho.

Directly from the page about these stats (https://www.basketball-reference.com/about/bpm.html)...

What does this mean? Box Plus/Minus is good at measuring offense and solid overall, but the defensive numbers in particular should not be considered definitive.

I maintain that he was never a great defender.  Better than average maybe, but surely not worth paying top dollar for, especially considering his deficiencies on offense.

We sure sucked today.  But the good news is that we somehow hung around even though we couldn't make an open shot all game.  I think we win this series as long as we don't have a couple more off nights like we did today.

Cavs win 100-97. Series now tied 1-1.

LeBron went 17/24 shooting for 46 points. The rest of the team 20/49 shooting. As has been the case all year, as LeBron goes, the team goes.

Each game is different, so there is a chance the cavs can have an "on" game in Indy and win comfortably.  But they need someone else to step in and be consistent.  George Hill, Clarkson, Smith, Hood.  Anyone.  They role players performance has been very mediocre.  If they dont develop a flow, they will be lucky to get out of this series let alone make the finals.  Everything is always magnified immediatley after each game.  IN 2015, the cavs squeeked by Boston in games 1 and 2, last year, they squeeked by Indy in games 1 and 2.  They year they won it all, squeeked by Detroit in all 4 games.  The good thing about having Lebron is he seems to be the master and making adjustments (more than the coach).  They need to get some flow soon, however.

I agree. I remember the Pistons series in 2016. I believe it was the lowest point differential for a 4-0 sweep in NBA history. That series was a few Pistons bad breaks (and Andre Drummond free throws) away from being 2-2. I don't think the Cavs will average 90 PPG for the entire series. They will score more.

yeah we cannot have one man shows from lebron all the way through. others have to step up. we could go down the list, but really its basically everybody else. both of these games were maddening in their own ways.

Korver had a good game. I agree about everyone else. Love had a so-so game 15pts+8rebs but that was over 34 minutes. He has to produce more. I also know he was hurt a bit after the three point foul when he landed on his ankle funny.

Those deadline aquisitions look pretty bad in the postseason so far.

Love had a so-so game 15pts+8rebs but that was over 34 minutes.

He was 5-16 shooting, though.

Clarkson has been a huge disappointment so far in the playoffs as he has been a total non-factor.  Hood is about what we expected...a guy who can hit some shots but not much else.  Nance also as expected...not much better than TT on offense, but a little better defender.  I thought Hill played a decent game while he was in there, but he got a lot of fouls fast.  Calderon doesn't look very good either.

Jeff Green is abysmal right now.  I say we swap in Cedi.  At least he'll play solid defense.

I think Cedi is the type of guy who would make some huge game changing plays, either with defense, hustle or something that isnt sexy.  I also hate to say this, but, if these guys continue to look like players who have never played in playoff games before, you will probably have to play (gulp), Tristan.  Get some of that experience in there.

Speaking of game changing plays...I'm not sure we win if JR doesn't steal the ball from Oladipo and score late in the 4th.
